SCP-002-JP

Item #: SCP-XXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Due to a recent revision to the Special Containment Procedures, SCP-XXX is to be treated as a class 4 biohazard. This change was instituted after attempts to physically destroy SCP-XXX caused new anomalous behaviors to manifest. Refer to Accident Report 002-A2 for more information.

SCP-XXX is to be stored in a hermetically sealed concrete dome 1 meter thick, 16 meters in diameter and 6 meters in height, and therein stored within a standard containment unit of the same material. The containment unit is to be monitored 24 hours a day by surveillance cameras. If anything anomalous occurs, D class personnel equipped with biohazard suits are to be immediately sent to correct the error. Afterwards, dispose of the suits by incineration, then give all personnel who came into contact with SCP-XXX a meal of wheat and rice (or similar), then quarantine for 24 hours. If a subject begins to show anomalous symptoms, treat immediately.

Description: SCP-XXX takes the appearance of a Japonica rice plant, which continues to seed constantly, regardless of season. According to permissions granted by O5, numerous destruction attempts have been carried out, though none have been successful. When a person or remotely-operated drone attempts to make physical contact with SCP-XXX, the subject will activate, resulting in death of the personnel or irreparable damage to the equipment. Failed destruction attempts include ballistic weapons, explosives, heat, acid, as well as long-term water shortage. Attempts have been halted awaiting further research.

SCP-XXX exhibits two distinct anomalous behaviors.

002-A1: SCP-XXX acts as the host for an unidentified bacterial infection, which will attempt to spread if given the opportunity. This infection is designated SCP-XXX-1. SCP-XXX-1 is known to infect a wide range of grains. Presently, all plants of the family Gramineae (including wheat and corn) have been confirmed to be affected, and the propagating mechanism has been shown to be airborne. Any living grain infected by SCP-XXX-1 becomes structurally-integrated with an unknown toxin. Affected individuals gain resistance to temperature variations by a measure of 300 times the normal threshold. In the event that a human ingests an infected grain, the lining of the subject's digestive tract, primarily stomach and intestines, will begin producing a specific mixture of fats and oils by an unknown process. Testing has confirmed the substance to be ester wax, which the human body possesses no means to digest. Due to uncontrollable violent bowel movements and vomiting, severe dehydration is induced in the subject, leading to eventual death. The subject will continue to produce the fatty mixture even after affected areas have been surgically removed, excess fluid being discharged from the anus. In the event that no measures are taken, the subject will most often die within 24 hours, though administration of an IV has extended the life expectancy to one week. The toxin itself is known to break down under temperatures above 300 times the normal range. However, SCP-XXX-1 is still able to produce spores at a decreased rate, even at extreme temperatures and oxygen-deprived. Additionally, no known antibiotics have been effective, though any treatment containing garlic as an ingredient will inhibit propagation.

002-A2: SCP-XXX exhibits avoidance behavior when approached by human, animal, or machine. Whenever something moves within 5 meters of the subject, SCP-XXX will undergo avoidance maneuvers. At this time, any obstacles between SCP-XXX and the location of its evasion will be destroyed. This behavior was discovered when heat durability experiments were first taking place. SCP-XXX continuously exhibited avoidance behavior towards the personnel holding the gas burner. During additional trials carried out by D-class personnel to confirm this behavior, SCP-XXX was driven into a corner of its containment unit, and proceeded to destroy the 40cm thick reinforced concrete cell wall. The speed with which SCP-XXX continued to evade high-power radioactive lasers may be indicative of abilities related to precognition. When supervisors attempted to bombard SCP-XXX with radiation from all sides, the floor of the wing lost stability and collapsed, causing innumerable damages. As a result, new containment procedures were implemented around the site onto which SCP-XXX fell.
