Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5484 is to be monitored by twelve armed guards stationed at Guard Towers 34Z-1, 34Z-2, 34Z-3, and 34Z-4 located at each corner of SCP-5484. A total of twenty torch units from MTF unit Alpha-17 "Orange Storm" are to be stationed along the perimeter between Guard Towers to prevent any instances of SCP-5484-1 from leaving the containment zone. Research personnel are only to be admitted onto SCP-5484 if given direct permission from Lead Researcher Moris. No Class-D personnel are permitted within the containment zone (25 meters outwards of SCP-5484's border) due to the extensive need for gear to enter. All personnel belonging to the MTF unit Alpha-17 and research personnel are required to wear a Moris Anti Pest and Inferno Technology Suit (MAPIT Suit) specially designed by Lead Researcher Moris when on duty.
MAPIT Suit description and procedures:
The MAPIT Suits are full-body suits designed to repel instances of SCP-5484, high temperatures, and physical impact. They consist of a combination of the following materials: neoprene-coated nylon, dacron, tricot, stainless steel, vulcanized rubber, █████ ███, and an aluminized nylon mesh to protect against high temperatures. Protection against high temperatures is required due to the flamethrowers given to torch units of MTF Alpha-17. The fabric beneath the aluminized nylon mesh is electrically charged with 230 volts to repel instances of SCP-5484-1. The MAPIT Suit is equipped with a built-in radio set, four tactical magazine pouches, physical impact reduction, and a built-in carbon-fiber fuel tank.
All MAPIT Suits are to be completely decontaminated and sealed in an airtight container before being distributed to personnel. All weapons are to be provided separately from the suits. After use, personnel are to enter a decontamination chamber and have the suits immediately sealed and returned to their storage containers respectively. If any damage is dealt to a suit, the suit is to be disposed of, and a replacement is to be provided immediately.
SCP-5484-1 Swarm During Initial Encounter
Description: SCP-5484 is a cornfield located in southern Ohio with an area of exactly 17 acres. Each corn stalk is the same height measuring 3.57 meters tall. It has been estimated that each corn stalk is approximately 110 days into its growth cycle. None of the corn stalks change in physical appearance or structure with time or attempts of physical damage. SCP-5484 is the natural habitat of all instances of SCP-5484-1. Instances of SCP-5484-1 are identical to each other. The subjects appear to be locusts with the only differentiation from non-anomalous locusts being their mandibles. Each instance of SCP-5484-1 has a strong set of mandibles capable of tearing through flesh. They have been observed to be extremely aggressive to any organism within a ten-meter radius. When attacking an organism, instances of SCP-5484-1 will travel in a swarm, surrounding the victim. When the victim is completely surrounded, each instance of SCP-5484-1 appears to multiply an unknown amount of times. All duplicate instances created during this process seamlessly fade away after the victim has been terminated. Instances of SCP-5484-1 have only been seen attempting to escape the containment zone of SCP-5484 on two separate occasions, both in which all instances attempting to escape were terminated.
Discovery: An abnormal amount of reports were being made relating to missing persons all within one kilometer of SCP-5484. Local police enforcement was dispatched to investigate, and all units were reported to have gone missing with no clues as to what had happened given over radio comms. MTF Epsilon-6 "Village Idiots" were dispatched to investigate the area with caution. Only two MTF operatives returned, while the other six were reported to be deceased.
Addendum-5484-A: Experiment Log for SCP-5484
Experiment Log 5484-A
Date: ██/██/20██
SCP-5484 Durability Testing:
Research personnel participating in the experiment are to attempt to physically damage or harm corn stalks within SCP-5484. The research personnel will be given a multitude of weapons and tools to do so.
Item: Machete
Results: Researcher Davis was given a machete and told to attempt to cut a corn stalk in half. Striking the corn stalks did not result in any physical damage. Sliding the blade along the side of the corn stalks in an attempt to slice it did not result in any physical damage.
Item: Flamethrower
Results: MTF-Alpha-17 Torch Unit 1-3 was told to directly torch a cornstalk using the standard-issue flamethrower. No physical damage was done to the corn stalk or any surrounding cornstalks. The flames went through with no effect.
Item: Shovel
Results: Researcher Davis was told to attempt to dig up a corn stalk and remove it from the soil. The roots of the corn stalk were noted to be abnormally long, although the corn stalk was able to be removed from the soil. After removed from the soil, the corn stalk was still immune to damage which was concluded after repeating the previous tests. The corn stalk was taken to research cell 14-C at Site-██ for biological analysis.
Incident Logs:
Incident-5484-A: On ██/██/20██, a swarm of SCP-5484-1 instances flooded out of the northwestern side of SCP-5484 heading for no particular target. Torch units Bravo 3-2 and Bravo 3-3 were called in for recontainment and all instances were successfully eliminated via flamethrower. It was dully noted that flamethrowers continue to be an effective means of elimination against instances of SCP-5484.
Incident-5484-B: During a scheduled exploration mission, Jr. Researcher █████ was terminated by instances of SCP-5484-1. The MAPIT Suit in use for the exploration mission had a battery malfunction in which the power disconnected from the battery bank, causing the electric charge to stop completely. This was only discovered after he was swarmed and the MAPIT Suit was quickly torn apart, made possible by lack of means to repel threats. A recall of all MAPIT Suits was put in place due to this event, and they were all examined for any failure of the battery banks.
