Item #: SCP-741B

Object class: Safe

Description: SCP-741B is an anomalous LM741 operational amplifier (op-amp) that behaves like an ideal op-amp. It has seemingly infinite open-loop gain, slew rate, power output, and bandwidth. Moreover, unlike conventional op-amps, SCP-741B can output voltages outside of the voltage supplied to its V+ and V- pins. It is speculated that SCP-741B does not need any external power to operate.

Attempts to analyze SCP-741B's various parameters were of limited success—its performance often exceeded that which the SCP Foundation's instruments could measure.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-741B must be hooked up in a basic inverting amplifier configuration at all times. 5V should be maintained across its power rails at all times. Redundant voltage regulators, uninterruptible power supplies, and backup generators should be utilized to ensure a constant 5V.

Due to SCP-741B's massive open-loop gain and power output, under no circumstances should it be disconnected from this configuration. Failure to abide by this may result in SCP-741B's output voltage reaching magnitudes in the kilo-volt range, thus forcibly creating an electrical connection to its other pins.

Notes: The name of SCP-741 is already in use; SCP-741B is in no way related to SCP-741. The SCP Foundation is considering renaming SCP-741B as its name is misleading.

Furthermore, Dr. Bright may no longer assign names to SCPs, nor can he challenge other scientists to "bouts of pugilism" for the right to name SCPs.
