SCP-XXXX photographed directly after recovery

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in Locker ██ in ValSafe31. Request for any use must be approved by the current head researcher (Dr. Fagles) and, as of 12/15/14, at least two O5 members. All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be kept in an alphabetically organized filing cabinet in the same storage container.

Any unauthorized SCP-XXXX-2 instances are to be reported to the on-site director, apprehended, and interrogated. Interrogation transcripts and audio are to be transferred to the current head researcher (Dr. Fagles), who will then recommend further action on a case by case basis, which is to be carried out after approval by the on-site director.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a black plastic notecard box designed to hold a deck of standard 8”x11” notecards, with the top half of the box being able to open on a hinge to expose the inside. There are no identifying markings on the box except for an imprint on the bottom which reads “MADE IN PARAGUAY”.

SCP-XXXX’s anamolous properties manifest themselves when 8”x11” index cards are placed inside the box, the box is closed, and the box is opened again. If the front side of the card (referred to as the “term” side) had a word or set of words written, typewritten, or printed in legible English prior to insertion, upon removal a definition of the term appears on the back side of the card(referred to as the “definition” side) in the same handwriting, typeface, or font as was used on the front side of the notecard, now defined as an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. This definition is always objectively true, and the definition has never been observed to contain opinion or biases. Images and video recordings of SCP-XXXX-1 share the same anomalous properties of its physical counterpart, and are to be considered instances of SCP-XXXX-1 themselves.

If any person reads the definition side of any instance of SCP-XXXX-1, they are henceforth referred to as an instance of SCP-XXXX-2. Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 cannot communicate the contents of the definition side of an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 through any means except for physically showing one the definition side of the instance of SCP-XXXX-1 in question.

SCP-XXXX-2 will, in the future, find a need for the information that they learned from their instance of SCP-XXXX-1 in order to escape a situation in which they would not survive without this knowledge (referred to as an "encounter"). Survival of this encounter is not guaranteed; it is entirely dependant on the circumstances/ability of SCP-XXXX-1. These encounters, without knowledge of the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX, appear to be entirely coincidental. It is also possible for the instance of SCP-XXXX-2 to forget the definition of SCP-XXXX-1, either naturally or by administration of amnestics.

Recovery: SCP-XXXX was recovered from a raid on Marshall, Carter, and Dark offices in [REDACTED]. It is believed that SCP-XXXX was used for the purposes of blackmailing political officials and other rivals to the company, investigation into undocumented instances of SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 is still ongoing.
