Item #: SCP-4173
Object Class: Safe Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4173 is to be contained in a standard sized containment chamber. No foundation or Class-D personnel are to enter SCP-4173-2 in order to retrieve anyone who has entered SCP-4173-2. SCP-4173 is to be contained in a chamber in which all walls are more than 350 cm away from the SCP. SCP-4173 is also to be held at the same site as SCP-2398 at all times. Class-D personnel entering SCP-4173-2 must be provided with a memetic kill agent, and under no circumstance are to be attmpted to be rescued. Two armed security guards are to be stationed outside of SCP-4173's containment chamber, and must not know anything about the object they are guarding. An airlock is to be in between the entrance to SCP-4173, and must be fitted with chloroform dispensers. If any personnel aware of SCP-4173 and its effects attempts to access SCP-4173 in a state of confusion, the guards are to let him/her pass through, and activate the chloroform dispensers, and escort him/her to personnel containment.
Description: SCP-4173 is composed of two parts. SCP-4173-1 appears to be an antique mirror approximately 214 cm tall and 61 cm wide. SCP-4173-2 is a dimension, identical to ours, except that there are no members of the kingdom Animalia. There are also no SCPs in this dimension, except for SCP-4173-1. People inside of this dimension try to live their normal life, despite that there are no animals or SCPs. He/she will also devote an unnecessary amount of time searching for what SCP-4173-1 showed them (see below).
SCP-4173 was initially contained on ██/██/████ in █████████, Scotland by Mobile Task Force Eta-10, designated "See No Evil." SCP-4173 gained the Foundation's attention after an urban legend about a cursed mirror was linked to several disappearances of former owners of the mirror. Mobile Task Force Zeta-9, designated "Mole Rats" was initially sent in to contain the the object, but was called back to base after multiple members of the task force were also reported missing.
During the day, SCP-4173-1's surface, while appearing to be solid, can be passed through. SCP-4173-1 lures people into walking through it by showing him/her something that they really want. Said person then has the urge to walk through, entering SCP-4173-2.
The connection between SCP-4173 and SCP-2398 is still not clear. Other similar incidents to Incident Log 4173-B (see below) have occurred. When this happens, if the person trying to destroy SCP-4173-1 cannot get to SCP-2398 before day (when SCP-4173-2 can be entered)1, then they will die for no logical reason. The Medical Department has deemed their cause of death to be cardiac arrest, but why this is the cause is still unkown.
Interviewed: D-5███
Interviewer: Dr. I█████
Foreword: D-5███ had escaped SCP-4173-2. This is the only case of someone getting out.
<Begin Log, 16:34>
Dr. I█████: So you got out of SCP-4173-2, right?
D-5███: Yeah, if that's what you call that hell hole.
Dr. I█████: First of all, why'd you go in?
D-5███: I dunno. I don't really remember going in. I was there. That was it. I just know that I wanted somethin'.
Dr. I█████: What is it that you wanted?
D-5███: I can't remember. I just know that I wanted it real bad.
Dr. I█████: So why'd end up leaving? No one else has returned.
D-5███: I took that stupid kill agent after I found it in my pocket. It didn't even work. I was going insane. But for some reason, I wanted to get the hell out of there.
Dr. I█████: Did you see anyone else while you were in there?
D-5███: Yeah, some researcher. He was trying to do a test on SCP-173 even though it wasn't there. He kept muttering something, but I'm not sure what it was.
Dr. I█████: Alright, that's all the questions we have.
<End Log, [16:41]>
Closing Statement: D-5███ was terminated shortly after the interview. The memetic kill agent he was given has since been discontinued.
