Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5000 cannot be contained, and is actively causing an XK-Class End-of-the-World scenario. All Class A personnel are to evacuate to Site-01. Should all Foundation researchers succumb to the effects of Event 5000-Alpha (see Addendum 5000.021 for details), Foundation records will be automatically stored in the Automated Recordkeeper of Neith (ARKON).

Description: SCP-5000 is theorized to be the cause of Event 5000-Alpha. Its primary function involves the cessation of all organ functions within the human body. Its origin is unknown.

Addendum 5000.019: Incident 5000-1.1 occurred on 05/10/2021, where 32 people collapsed simultaneously, seemingly induced in a catatonic state in █████████ Mall, █████, ██, United States. Seven collapsed on an escalator, falling five stories to the ground. MTF Iota-10 ("Damn Feds") had been deployed to transfer judicial matters related to such deaths to the Foundation. Autopsy reports show no signs of physical harm to any organs. Analysis of medical history presented no signs of a terminal or lethal illness.

Addendum 5000.021: Event 5000-Alpha is a global phenomenon involving the sudden cessation of all organ function due to SCP-5000. The prime target of SCP-5000 is human beings, not limited to age, gender, criminal record, medical history, and anatomical discrepancies. The duration taken for total organ failure to occur is random, and hence difficult to predict. It is currently impossible to avert the effects of Event 5000-Alpha. Initial reports of casualties were isolated and relatively easier for information suppression. However, casualties continued to mount, posing logistical and financial difficulties for effective suppression.

Greetings.

By the time you hear this message, more than 90% of the entire world is dead. Well, if 90% is dead, why aren't you? Why aren't we within the 90%?

Well, I'll get to that in a short while. For now, a little backstory.

Before history, we had apes. Then came the gorilla split. Out came the chimpanzees. Then, the chimpanzee split. The first traces of a human being appears in the form of a Homo. Now, evolution isn't linear, no. Evolution doesn't simply mean the evolved species are bigger, stronger, faster and smarter than the other. Evolution is driven by environmental pressures that make us adapt to that environment at the exact moment in time.

This is where we get to the why. Some of our ancestors were exposed to an unknown environmental pressure. There's not much evidence to determine what it was and when it happened anyway. In the process, they adapted. Adapted, and possessed genes which were… slightly altered from the rest. Now, that 90%, were descendants of regular Homo sapiens. The 10%, well, comes from a new species. A new species that broke off from Homo sapiens. And we are the descendants.

I believe, those genes protected us from this global chaos. We became the anomaly.

But, the thing is, this doesn't mean that we are destined to be superheroes with capes. This doesn't mean that we are very different from the rest. Perhaps, we are just lucky survivors to start a new world after a Sixth Extinction Event, enough to repopulate the world again.

It is rather unfortunate to lose countless valued personnel after all these years. But, we will recover. We will suture the Veil, and continue our Mission: Secure, Contain, Protect.

In the coming weeks, things will be very… different around here. One of the observations with regards to SCP-411 has been particularly disturbing. Play audio log.

The world once ended but was revived once more. You lived. You went through stressful times. You died. Every poor soul here died. (Chuckle.) Oh no no no, Doctor. Not all died. Now, SCP-411 wasn't the only one which gave us this, 'prediction'. From a report in SCP-089's file:

Description of Type-S Event in Locution Event: "The gods from above shall arrive in this reality after [REDACTED] quarters. They will cull the herd. Families shall weep. Pain shall flood over the walls and into this reality."
Type-S Event: Exact details unknown. Possibly a ADK-Class Full Anomalous Destabilization scenario¹, HK-Class Deific Subjugation scenario² or a SK-Class Dominance Shift scenario³, followed by an XK-Class End-of-the-World scenario.
Outcome: Protocol M8 not initiated yet, as Type-S Event has not occurred.

All of these anomalies have predicted that a K-Class is imminent. We do not know exactly when or what will happen should it arrive.

In response, I would like to propose something: Protocol-221: "Deadman".

Everyone, please settle down. Three, sit down. Let me finish.

I recognize the supposedly disputable nature of Protocol-221, but we cannot avoid this forever. I believe that it is time to uphold our assigned task. To end it all. To start over. Our ancestors and prehistoric organisms experienced five extinction events, each separated by a near-constant period of time before the next; like a heartbeat. I just feel it. It has to happen.

Five, do not leave. I am not finished.

If this doesn't happen, someone, or something else, will. And trust me, Protocol-221 is less painful than an event orchestrated by the Universe itself.

We, however, cannot cease to exist on this planet. We have committed atrocities. This is to show to the Universe that we accept punishment, unlike cowardly individuals who would rather run and hide. This is an indication of our iron fist. We must show strength, even in the face of death.
