Item #: SCP-4970
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4970 is to be stored on a desktop computer. (hence known as SCP-4970-1). Candidates for SCP-4970-1 must meet the following requirements:
- SCP-4970-1 must not be connected to the internet.1
- No files must be stored on SCP-4970-1, except for SCP-4970.1
- SCP-4970-1 must not be connected to power if it is not being used.
There are almost no specific requirements for the storage of SCP-4970-1, but a lead-lined room measuring approximately 3 metres in height and 5 metres in width and depth is advised. The only object required for SCP-4970's containment is a power source.
Personnel who are directly involved with testing SCP-4970 must submit to the administration of a Class-A Amnestic afterwards to prevent sensitive information collected from SCP-4970 from being revealed. There are two exceptions to this: if the individual has a Level 3 clearance level or if the individual is assigned to SCP-4970 and is required to know this information.
Copies of SCP-4970 must not be created without the approval of a member of senior research staff assigned to SCP-4970, and only for testing purposes. Such copies are stored on individual optical hard drives which are incinerated after the test that they were created for is completed. Any Foundation personnel found to be in possession of an unauthorised copy of SCP-4970 will be terminated.
If SCP-4970 shows any signs of sentience, it must be immediately reclassified to Euclid.
Description: SCP-4970 is a command prompt-based computer operating system created by an unnamed organisation, possibly a group of interest, in the year 19██. It was discovered on ██/██/20██ stored on an unlabelled floppy disk in a warehouse in █████████, Nevada, USA during a police raid. SCP-4970 was retrieved from the NVPD by the Foundation approximately 48 hours later (with all evidence of SCP-4970's presence expunged, including the administration of Class-B Amnestics to all affected officers and staff) and taken to Site-15.
SCP-4970 is able to access files from any system it has come into contact with, even without any sort of connection to them at the time of accessing. It is unknown how SCP-4970 does this, but one theory is that it is programmed to download all files stored on systems it affects (Disproved, see Test 4970-X). Currently, the only method in which SCP-4970 has affected other systems is through sharing the same internet connection. The known systems SCP-4970 has affected2 are listed below:
- The filing system of [REDACTED] precinct in █████████, Nevada, USA3.
- █ archive servers and ██ desktop computers from Site-15 (See Incident 4970-A).
- The mailing list of ███████ Group.
- A server system belonging to the government of ██████, which contains [DATA EXPUNGED].
- The personal financial records of ████ █████.
- A laptop belonging to an unidentified individual.
- [REDACTED]
- The entire local area network of ████████████ High School.
SCP-4970 also has a collection of database files built into its source code (hence known as SCP-4970-2). The contents of SCP-4970-2 are unknown because there is presently no known way to access SCP-4970's source code, despite multiple attempts.
Addendum: Following Test 4970-X, SCP-4970's ability affects not only the systems it comes into contact with, but the files on those systems as well. Those files can be moved to systems SCP-4970 doesn't recognise and can still be read. It is unknown if moving these files to unaffected systems connects them to SCP-4970. Further testing is required.

Level 2 clearance is required to view these documents, and unappended versions are available on request from Site-15's archive servers for personnel assigned to SCP-4970, or with a Level 3 clearance level.
