Item #: SCP-xxxx
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-xxxx is to be kept in a standard secure containment locker at Site-59. A small LED light affixed to the locker's ceiling is to remain lit at all times and checked daily. The corridor outside of SCP-xxxx's containment locker is to remain lit at all times.
Description: SCP-xxxx is a magnesium fire-starter of indeterminate brand. The object's anomalous properties will only manifest if the following conditions are met:
- It is placed in an unlit container — which may be a box, locker, or room — with an illuminance of no more than 0.005 lux.
- No sentient beings or recording devices are present within the container.
- There is exactly one other solid object in the container that does not violate the previous condition.
Under these circumstances, SCP-xxxx will begin emitting noises from within its container. These noises vary depending on the container and object accompanying SCP-xxxx inside, but will always include the sound of a fire starter being struck repeatedly. The noises will persist until one of the above conditions is broken or SCP-xxxx's container is opened.
Occasionally, a voice will be emitted by SCP-xxxx as well — henceforth designated SCP-xxxx-1. SCP-xxxx-1 has been described by listeners as an amalgam of male speech, often sounding like multiple persons speaking in near-perfect unison. Vocal analysis has identified that the SCP-xxxx-1's "echoing effect" is not reproducible by any non-anomalous individual's vocal cords.
The nature of SCP-xxxx-1's speech varies based on illuminance, and can range from requests for help to statements of existential dread. The distress in SCP-xxxx-1’s speech tends to increase inversely with illuminance but directly with the volume of SCP-xxxx’s container.
