Item #: SCP-4361
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4361is to be contained within a man made spherical structure inside Provisional Research Containment Facility (PRC) ██.1 The sphere is constructed of tempered glass, steel and aluminium paneling and has a volume of 904,320 m3 with the top of its dome standing 60m above the ocean’s surface and plunging an additional 60m below. In lade within the sphere's walls at even intervals are industrial space heaters which can be used to heat the sphere's internal temperature up to 500 C. During the feeding of SCP-4361the heaters are to be initiated if the fog expands to over ██m3 until the fog has receded to it original size of ██m3. Feeding of SCP-4361is to occur every 15 hours and is done by releasing a school of approximately 30 fish into SCP-4361’s containment area. Thermal imaging cameras placed at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions inside the top of the dome and transmit a live video feed. In the event on an SCP-4361-1 instance emerging from the fog, it is to be seized and placed within a humanoid containment chamber for up to 24 hours of research and testing before termination.
Addendum1: As of ██/██/████ instances of SCP-4361-1 are no longer to be seized for research but are to be terminated upon emergence from SCP-4361. For more information please see incident report 14-4228-1d.
Description: SCP-4361is a cloud of gray radiation fog which originated 503.57 nautical miles off the Coast of California on 07/17/████ at 5:32 am. Currently the fog is estimated to cover an area of approximately ██m2 wide and ██m tall. The fog was first noticed by Research Vessel 28 who contacted Site 13 after which they were instructed to sail in to the fog to determine a central origin. See radio log from Research Vessel 28 to site 13.
Thermal and x-ray imaging of the fog has produced pictures detailing a bulbous mass located directly in the center of the fog and partially submerged. The mass appears to have the ability to alter its internal temperature, resulting in an increase or reduction in the fog surrounding it. Video recording of the mass during feeding has shown a dark colored substance being excreted from small pours on its surface. This substance has the effect of humidifying and cooling the air around it subsequently creating a larger spread of fog. It is believed SCP-4361 uses this substance to conceal its movements while hunting for prey or feeding.
SCP 4361-1: SCP 4361-1 are believed to assist SCP 4361 in its feeding procedures. SCP 4361-1 is a vaguely humanoid creature stand roughly 2.1m tall with overly extended arms and legs ending in webbed appendages. SCP 4361-1 is capable of moving a great speeds in the water through the use of its webbing, gliding much like a crocodile or alligator. SCP 4361-1 poses large, bulbous eyes which are appear to help it navigate through the fog emitted by SCP 4361. During SCP 4361's feeding SCP 4361-1 entities will emerge from a hole beneath SCP 4361. They will then begin to circle SCP 4361 in progressively wider circles until they come in contact with prey. SCP 436-1 will then return to SCP 4361 and press the food against its surface until it has been absorbed into SCP 4361. If no food can be found within the sphere of fog created by SCP 4361, SCP 4361-1 will brake formation and leave the fog until a viable food source is discovered. During this period SCP 4361-1 will exude a substance similar to SCP 4361 which will cloak its movements through the water. After feeding is complete SCP 4361-1 will return to SCP 4361 and press itself to the surface until it is absorbed. As many as 6 SCP 436-1 entities have been recorded emerging at one time from SCP 4361 and it is currently unknown how they are created..
