Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a standard security safe measuring 1M x 1M x 0.5M. The safe combination is to be known only by the head researcher of Site-█’s research facility. SCP-XXXX is only to be removed from the safe for testing purposes. SCP-XXXX is currently under review for transportation to a storage facility section at Site-█. Researchers of SCP-XXXX may not view the inner pages of SCP-XXXX unless through the use of surveillance equipment.
Description: The object takes the appearance of a black, leather-bound book measuring 80cm x 55 cm x 45cm. The cover is non-anomalous in appearance, with "The Book Of Drugs" embossed in white along the spine. Despite the title being in english, upon opening SCP-XXXX, test subject explains that there are symbols unlike any known language filling every page to entirety. Surveillance and digital equipment are unable to perceive these symbols. An individual that begins to read SCP-XXXX describes the experience as “knowing what is written, but being unable to describe the knowledge received.” See Interview.
SCP-XXXX’s anomalous effects begin once an individual begins reading its pages. Effect is described as a “sudden understanding of personal life matters” similar to an epiphany. Continued reading of SCP-xxxx will increase this effect, and apply it to other areas of understanding. Subjects affected by SCP-XXXX show positive changes in: self awareness, cognitive thought, intuitive thought. A subject under prolonged exposure to SCP-XXXX shows advanced comprehension of topics they had not previously read or learned about in life. See Addendum.
Exposure to SCP-XXXX’s content for an extended period of 2-3 months will bring on the additional anomalous effect of the subject’s unwillingness- or inability - to stop reading. Subject will not eat, sleep or take any action that would cause them to stop. Subjects expire quickly if left unattended. Subjects placed on life support and allowed to continue reading SCP-XXXX have an extended lifespan of a 10-14 days before succumbing to symptoms of sleep deprivation.
Individuals who are removed from exposure of SCP-XXXX’s content at this stage will see its effects slowly reversed. First symptom of removal from exposure is that the knowledge acquiesced through SCP-XXXX’s anomaly is forgotten by the subject. This is followed by mental deterioration, loss of motor-skills, and finally, suicidal tendencies leading to death or comatose. Subject’s exposed to SCP-XXXX and then later removed from exposure have double the lifespan of subject’s deceased while under exposure to it’s anomaly. The longest recorded lifespan of a subject or individual exposed to the content of SCP-XXXX is currently: 165 days 3 hr 6 min 21 sec. Amnestics do not stop the negative effects of SCP-XXXX; see Log-xxxx-05.
SCP-XXXX was discovered on Mar-08-2018 at the ██████████ ██████ psychiatric facility, ██████████, WA, after an ongoing police investigation was brought to the Foundation's attention. Two field agents were sent undercover to continue the operation, and after a period of 93 hours of interviews and surveillance, SCP-XXXX was found sitting on a bookshelf in the office of a recently deceased psychiatrist, Dr. Harmond Jenkels.
Log-xxxx-05 Junior researcher █████ was transporting SCP-XXXX to testing chamber when surveillance equipment caught the researcher viewing the inner pages. The researcher was interrogated and demoted to D-97███ after class C-Amnestics were applied to the individual. D-97███ perished a week later after refusing to eat.
