Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Samples of SCP-XXXX are to be kept only in Biocontainment Site 49, and all other samples which are created or acquired shall be destroyed pursuant to the guidelines established by MTF Beta-7, Special Pathogens Division, Directorate 481. Materials and instruments shall be immersed in a sodium hypochlorite solution for a minimum of one hour; before being autoclaved for an additional two hours. Inoculations for Rabies lyssavirus produced by foundation front company [REDACTED] Pharmaceuticals are intentionally contaminated with a synthesized protein similar to SCP-XXXX which renders the prion nonpathogenic. These vaccines are distributed to hospitals and other medical care facilities within the established endemic area but are in limited supply due to high cost, and issues with access due to the nature of healthcare in country.
In the event of mutation or widespread outbreak, MTF Beta-7 is to employ the scorched earth contingency so as to prevent an RK-Class Restructuring Scenario.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a high pathogenic prion which was first discovered in 1978 by biologists at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, although the condition it causes was known to the foundation for many years before the causal agent was discovered.
Polaroid taken by WIDNR of the first animal SCP-XXXX was cultured from. The animal was terminated, and brain slices were taken to UWGB, where it was discovered.
SCP-XXXX infection results in a disease process in simians and other primates including humans initially similar to Chronic Wasting Disease, and in other warm-blooded animals largely asymptotically. The disease, academically dubbed Atypical Chronic Wasting Disease when discovered by the University of Wisconsin, begins with a lowgrade fever, and general flu-like symptoms. Those in the process of infection of SCP-XXXX become incidences of SCP-XXXX-1
Stage 1: Within 72 hours of initial infection, the improper absorption of carbohydrates and refined sugars begins to result in acute weight loss, and the skin begins to take on a sunken in, and loose appearance. Rapid increases in metabolism increase weight loss, and further pronounces the effects, additionally precipitating extreme hunger.
Stage 2: 24 hours later modulation of NDMA receptors in the brain leads to superhuman strength, with effects similar to the consumption of Phencyclidine (PCP). Bouts of anger and extreme strength results in unusual skeletomuscular injuries and reformations, leading to long, dangling limbs.
Stage 3: Extremely violent, an urge to isolate, and craving for flesh and meat takes over.
Incidents Leading to Discovery:
21 January, 1799
A logging camp near Fort Kaministiquia (present-day Thunder Bay, Ontario) reports a string of increasingly violent murders to the Government of Upper Canada. When the Canadian authorities failed to respond because of terrain difficulty, and particularly bad storm in the area, Father Theophilus Sandean, who was stationed at the camp wrote to the Indiana Territories governor pleading for help.
The Governor deployed the newly formed Territorial Incidents Unit, a colonial precursor to the modern day foundation to the site of the logging camp. When they arrived, they discovered everyone but Father Theophilus to be missing or dead.
29 July 1803
A town in modern day Southwest Wisconsin called Millers Crossing reported a series of heinous attacks that the townspeople attributed to werewolves. In each, the victims where eaten, and only bits of clothing and skeletal remains where left. In July, members of the TIU where dispatched to investigate the killings, and found a situation similar to the incidents in 1799.
Newspaper clipping from the Indiana Post Gazette
Father Theophilus from the 1799 incident was asked to consult, and was placed under the employ of the TIU's newly formed Religious and Occult Division. He and the field agent from the original case arrived near the end of July, and found a small town in turmoil, with seven deaths having occurred, and public lynchings being called for by the townspeople. Father Theophilus and the field agent viewed the deceased, and confirmed that the wounds where nearly identical to those seen in the 1799 incident.
Father Theophilus sent word to his superiors asking for help, and upon hearing of the seriousness of the situation, the territorial governor sent a plea to Washington. While waiting to hear back, Father Theophilus and Dean Smith decided to stay in the town, and to try to capture the party responsible. That evening, an incidence of SCP-XXXX-1 attacked the town blacksmith, who sustained mortal wounds. Dean Smith was able to to shoot and kill the incidence of SCP-XXXX-1, and burned the body immediately.
Dean Smith drew a picture of SCP-XXXX-1, which was lost until 2003, when the Millers Crossing library was renovated, and the drawing along with a crucifix, roman collar, and other possessions of the priest. It is unknown why Father Theophilus left these belongings in Millers Crossing, and TIU records indicate that he left the priesthood after the events in town. His death certificate, found in Whitefish Bay, WI indicate that he died a few years later of unknown causes.
After the death of the instance of SCP-XXXX-1, the TIU closed the case, assuming that the entity was deceased, and that no future issues would arrise.
13 March, 1908
In 1908, an incident occurred at the newly constructed Marquette State Hospital for the Insane in Marquette, Michigan.
