Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX are to be contained in a airtight, lead-lined room with 0.5m thick concrete walls, with the interior measuring 5x5x5m. SCP-XXXX is to be handled only by D-class, and an AI-operated drone with adequate radiation shielding and no optical sensors is to be present during testing. No drone with optical sensors is ever to be exposed to SCP-XXXX in the future, and such exposure is to be considered a breach.
In the event of a breach, all parties exposed to SCP-XXXX are to be terminated by MTF Eta-10 "See No Evil". Personnel that have been irradiated by SCP-XXXX are also to be terminated. SCP-XXXX is to
be disabled via electro-magnetic pulse and returned to containment.
Description: SCP-XXXX-1 is a virtual reality headset of unknown model. SCP-XXXX-2 and SCP-XXXX-3 are the left and right virtual reality controllers respectively that go with SCP-XXXX-1. The outer casings of all three have proved irremovable, thus rendering their internal hardware inaccessible. SCP-XXXX functions as expected for a virtual reality headset despite having no detectable internal power sources. SCP-XXXX-1's monitor, when turned on, is capable of displaying "impossible colors" which cannot be displayed by a standard RGB screen. The colors can be perceived correctly even if SCP-XXXX-1 is not being worn. Testing with tetrachromats and other subjects with increased color distinction has determined that SCP-XXXX-1 can display the following colors:
- True black
- Stygian shades
- Self-luminescent shades
- Hyperbolic shades
- Opponent mixtures
- Mixtures of between 4 and 7 primary colors
- At least 3 shades of infrared
- At least 5 shades of ultraviolet
- At least █ infohazardous colors
Exposure to infohazardous colors causes the exposed subject to become frustrated and [DATA EXPUNGED], invariably resulting in the subject's suicide, with one notable exception. Attempts to remove the infohazard with amnestics have met with failure. Attempts to replicate SCP-XXXX-1's display for use as a compact multifrequency EM emitter is ongoing but is severely hampered owing to an inability to disassemble SCP-XXXX.
Recovery log: SCP-XXXX was discovered when a family in ████, ████████ received SCP-XXXX instead of the Oculus Quest they had ordered. The son shut himself into his room and exposed himself to SCP-XXXX. He did not leave the room for two days, at which point he was discovered to have impaled himself on his bedframe. His suicide note consisted of a calm explanation of how to colors he saw were "wholesome" and "heartwarming", followed by crippling existential despair at thinking about reality. It was destroyed before the Foundation was able to intervene. MTF Eta-10 was dispatched to investigate and quarantine possible cognitohazards. During the investigation, Agent ██████ was exposed to SCP-XXXX. 11 days later, he committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple. The suicide note he left contained a farewell to the other members of Eta-10, and an explanation as to how his antimemetics training was causing the infohazard to affect him at a painfully slow rate, and that conventional amnestics proved ineffective. Agent ██████ then began to write about the colors before the note abruptly ends mid-word. There are stains on the bottom-right corner of the note, which have been confirmed to be blood belonging to Agent ██████ and tears, also belonging to Agent ██████.
Addendum 1: The surviving members of Eta-10 have unanimously requested that Agent ██████'s suicide note not be kept on file with this document due to potential infohazard contamination.
Granted. - O5
Addendum 2: As of Incident 3825-W, the containment procedures have been amended to include thicker walls to prevent radiation leakage and stall breach attempts. Research into SCP-XXXX-1's upper frequency limit is ongoing. SCP-XXXX is no longer allowed to be tested on drones.
