Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5565 is to be kept in a sealed glass case, contained inside a reasonably sized containment chamber, cleaned out every 2 weeks. It is to remain sheathed at all times, with the exception of allowing personnel to physically interact with it.
All physical interactions with SCP-5565 are to be logged, with personnel who have physically interacted with it being monitored for changes in behavior for 2 months after initial contact with SCP-5565. If abnormal changes in behavior are confirmed, the subject is to be terminated immediately if Class-D classification or bellow, if the subject is Class-C classification or above, the affected subject is to be reclassed as a Class-E, until such abnormalities cease.
SCP-5565 is currently held in Site-76, a non-anomalous replica has been put in it's place inside the Imperial Treasury section of the Topkapı Palace.
Description: SCP-5565 is the historical artifact known as the "Sword Of Osman", an important sword-of-state used by the Ottoman Empire, named after it's first ruler, Osman I. The sword was used in the enthronement ceremony of new Ottoman rulers, with the new Sultan being girt with the sword during the ceremony.
The sword was likely forged in the 13th century. It is of standard length and is encrusted with gold, forming a variety of patterns on the blade. The hilt is slightly bent, with a small jewel embedded in it's center. The scabbard is similarly designed, with gold-encrusted patters decorating it.
SCP-5565 upon initial physical contact, aside from minor headaches induced on the subject touching it, will not display any immediate effects. Upon lapsing into sleep, or losing consciousness, subjects who have interacted with SCP-5565 will experience "Osman's Dream", a supposed dream Osman I had while staying in the home of religious figure Sheikh Edabali, believed to have been fictitious by most historians.
Subjects who have claimed to experience such a dream have described it as similar to it's historical interpretation. In such a dream, subjects have described being in the presence of a man, most likely being Sheikh Edabali, due to the explanations given about the appearance, stature, and clothing of the entity. A large tree of unknown origin, with leaves styled in the shape of scimitars, sprouts from the ground, using a canopy made of it's branches to shade 3 large landmasses, likely the continents Asia, Europe, and Africa. Other sights that are reportedly seen in the dream are as follows.
- A full moon, likely representing the Islamic Crescent, rising before the appearance of the tree.
- Four columns, most likely representing the Caucasus, Atlas, Taurus, and Balkan mountains, supporting the dome of foliage based around the tree.
- Four rivers originating from the tree's routes, most likely representing the Tigris, Euphrates, Danube, and Nile rivers. An indiscernible amount of boats, barks and other sea-fairing contraptions are described to have been on these rivers.
- Various fields, forests, fountains, seas, valleys, cities, obelisks, and towers.
- Various birds, including parrots and nightingales.
The points of the scimitar-leaves are then pointed at various cities by a gust of, seemingly of unknown origin. Subjects report the majority of leaves pointing at a ring, situated between two of the landmasses and seas, most likely representing Constantinople, or modern-day Istanbul. Subjects describe feeling a strong urge to place said ring on their finger. Once the ring is placed on the subject's finger, the dream will reportedly end, though some subjects differ in their accounts, saying
that the ring was placed on their finger for them by Edabali.
Upon awakening from such a dream, the subject will instantly obtain a large amount of comprehension on a variety of subjects. The amount and subject of said knowledge is inconsistent but reoccurring sects of knowledge include as follows.
- A comprehensive grasp of Arabic, French, Ottoman Turkish, Greek, Armenian, Bulgarian and Persian, and at times, ability to pronounce and words from, and speak said languages.
- A basic understanding of Asian, European and African history, with extensive knowledge of Ottoman history.
- Extensive capabilities in swordsmanship.
- Basic capabilities in archery and riding.
- Basic knowledge of military and political strategy.
- Knowledge of cartography and the layout of a variety of Balkan, Middle-Eastern, and North-African cities.
- Completely perfect pronunciation and understanding of the phrase, "Biz değiliz eğlendirdi".
Subjects are incapable of forgetting such knowledge even with the assistance of amnestics, with the knowledge seemingly remaining with them until they become deceased.
SCP-5565's more anomalously dangerous capabilities were not observed until █ months and █ days after it's recovery. SCP-5565, after physical contact, seems capable of usurping the consciousness of subjects who have physically interacted with it, replacing it with it's own. There are currently 74 estimated cases of SCP-5565's effects on other entities, including the various Ottoman Sultans that went through the girding ceremony and the Sharifs of Konya who girded the aforementioned sultans. However, this is likely a far smaller number than actual figures, as other estimates have suggested a total of ███ to ████ cases have occurred in total.
The amount of control the consciousness inside SCP-5565 has over it's transfer from being to being is still not fully understood, however, it is known that it can retract it's consciousness from it's host subject in the event of discovery, detainment, or the host being of no particular importance to SCP-5565. It can also refuse to transfer to a new host via physical contact with SCP-5565 if it already has a suitable host.
Addendum-01: Recovery Log SCP-5565 was recovered by the Foundation on ████████ ███, 19██, during the Allied Occupation Of Constantinople. Occupation forces noted the anomalous effects after Pvt. James O'Neill began to display abnormal amounts of knowledge on the history of the city and it's layout. The Foundation was alerted and took custody of SCP-5565 ██ days after the initial discovery of it's anomalous effects, with temporary containment for SCP-5565 set up inside the city.
The following interviews were held ████████ ███, 19██, with Pvt. James O'Neill, █ days after the recovery of SCP-5565.
Addendum-02: Incident Report 5565-1: On ████████ ███, 19██, Pvt. James O'Neill escaped temporary containment and acquired a captured Turkish Mauser from nearby temporary storage made by British occupation forces. The subject then proceeded to attempt to force their way to SCP-5565's storage location, killing █ Foundation personnel and ██ non-Foundation personnel, before being terminated by Foundation forces while attempting to enter SCP-5565's temporary storage. It is unknown as to how the subject knew of SCP-5565's location.
Nearby Foundation leadership were quickly notified, and SCP-5565 was moved to an out-of-city location, to prevent further incidents.
Addendum-03: Interview Log 5565-3: Sgt. Arthur Brennan was alerted of Pvt. James O'Neill's termination approximately 3 hours after it's occurrence, and was requested for an interview.
