Item #: SCP-XXXX1

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX1 is to be contained in a 7m x 7m x 7m insulated chamber, 80m underground. From the staff entry point, there is to be a 80m tunnel to allow proper isolation between SCP-XXXX1 and the entrance. The chamber's atmosphere always needs to be monitored for any and all temperature, radiation, electromagnetic, and pressure fluctuations, which must consequently be logged at their precise time and date.
The chamber should be easily accessible by authorized staff, however only to be entered upon the current Head Researcher's approval. (All research personnel interested in studying SCP-XXXX1 must be approved by the Head Researcher.)

SCP-XXXX1 must remain placed on its pedestal in the center of the chamber.

*IMPORTANT* If SCP-XXXX1 changes form while the room is occupied, all personnel are to evacuate immediately. If this protocol is disobeyed and personnel are to remain in the chamber, damage to hearing and eyesight will be suffered. Remaining in the chamber for longer than 20 minutes could result in death.

(If in the future SCP-XXXX1 is decided to be too hazardous, the area is to be evacuated and SCP-XXXX1 is to be split safely using a laser and extreme insulation procedures.)

Description: SCP-XXXX1 is a floating clump of atoms, suspended several inches in the air by an unknown force. The atoms take restful form as a perfect formation of one specific element at a time, (at the time this was written SCP-XXXX1 was a Lead cube) SCP-XXXX1 however is incrementally increasing in mass, and has been observed cycling upward through the periodic table. Few advancements have been made in understanding SCP-XXXX1's anomalous properties, however its potential to be studied, as well as its potential threat makes it suitable to be kept isolated and surveyed.
One of SCP-XXXX1's properties is that it changes its local environment's temperature to benefit its state. The change can be unpredictable, and the time of SCP-XXXX1's next transformation is unknowable. __Temperatures have shown to rise/fall above and below the threshold of human safety in the past, and the levels are assumed to have no boundary. __

SCP-XXXX1's transformation is a slow process, taking an average of 45 minutes, and the transformations themselves only happen every 1 to 2 years. During these 45 minutes SCP-XXXX1 has been observed to emit high decibel frequencies, slowly reaching a peak towards the end of its transformation process. Visible light has also been observed to emit from SCP-XXXX1, in addition to traces of radiation. This loudness and brightness can become excruciating quickly, and anyone within its proximity would be affected. while no casualties have ever been suffered at the abilities of SCP-XXXX1, hearing and eyesight damages have been an issue for some personnel.

SCP-XXXX1 is surprisingly unaffected by most things that should affect it; it does not oxidize, nor is it reactive to magnetic or electric fields. Radiation applies as well. SCP-XXXX1 however does react to force, and can break into smaller pieces. Upon this action it will transform itself back to its whole shape, complete with its emitting of sound, light, and radiation process (without fluctuation in temperature).Interestingly SCP-XXXX1 seems to gain its mass from the particles in its environment. Its ability to both exert and conserve energy is unique, and a trace amount of hydrogen is kept in the atmosphere. SCP-XXXX1 is thought to transform safer and quicker with simpler atoms to pull from.

Potential to be Studied: While SCP-XXXX1 is incredibly strange, everything it does is well within the realm of physics. How it's able to do what it does is strange, and there are many theories. How it is so efficient with energy while undergoing no visible process is remarkable, and this might be a part of its levitation. As SCP-XXXX1 cycles further down the periodic table, researches will be able to analyze heavy elements that they never had to chance to. Even further there would be elements not yet discovered, observable and study-able without worry.
Potential Threat: SCP-XXXX1 is indeed safe; simple strict procedures ensure that no one is hurt and that SCP-XXXX1 is contained. However the danger is that it's uncertain what will happen as SCP-XXXX1 grows. In the future, SCP-XXXX1 may transform to drastic effects, and become too dangerous to allow exist. Who knows what will happen at such high number elements, and what will happen if it never stops growing? While the knowledge to be gained from SCP-XXXX1 in several decades might be groundbreaking, it could be deadly. A worst-case scenario, SCP-XXXX1 could possibly become too large to safely split, and there could be a nuclear reaction more destructive than we've ever seen. Another possibility is that SCP-XXXX1 will increase surrounding temperatures beyond anything approachable, and will become so hot that no one can even try to stop it.
While SCP-XXXX1 is currently just a warm room with a potential for scientific discovery, there are concerns about its implications.
