Special Containment Procedure:
Due to the nature of SCP-5XXX, it is currently impossible to contain. Current research efforts, including potential methods of containment and neutralization for SCP-5XXX, have been distributed between Site 45, Site 79, and Site 131.¹

The off-site living quarters of Site 45, 79 and 131 have been disguised as the colonial possessions of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Kingdom of Spain. This was to prevent locational and informational breaches as of ██/██/████ due to the overpopulation of the on-site living quarters. Further Foundation operations in these territories must include an appropriate cover story.

Scranton-Eamon Reality Sinks have been installed in Libya, Egypt, Morocco (including the Disputed Zone of Western Sahara), Italy, Spain, and Gibraltar, to limit the effects of SCP-5XXX's feeding process. At the time of writing, Mk.II Scranton-Eamon Reality Sinks are under construction within the three sites previously mentioned as a makeshift method of containment until a permanent containment solution could be developed.

An artificial strait, designated SM01, has been constructed amidst the borders of Morocco, Spain, and Site-45 in order to slow down the process and counter SCP-XXXX’s collateral effects by redirecting the waters of the Atlantic Ocean flow through the affected zones of the SCP.
Currently, a misinformation campaign relating to the causes of desertification is ongoing and Protocol WY-1 has been devised with the objective to limit the feeding zones and prevent the relocation of SCP-XXXX.

In the aftermath of a minor containment breach, Class C amnestics targeting memories of the affected areas are to be administered worldwide. Geological data related to the affected areas must also be amended in order to accommodate any changes to the geography. Nonetheless, the situation is considered salvageable and recontainment can be achieved through Romagnoli-Belrose Mobile Terracontainment Devices. Should a specific nation-state be identified as the cause of the containment breach, it is to be liquidated through the application of Protocol Romagnoli-Von Hermann. However, should the containment breach result in critical and unconcealable changes (i.e. the destruction of notable landmarks), a Broken Masquerade scenario should be assumed imminent.

Ultimately, should SCP-XXXX’s feeding zone expands to the world at large, an XK-Class Type Nu End of the World Scenario is considered inevitable due to the catastrophic chain reactions caused by the annihilation of Earth’s hydrosphere and the destruction of more than 97% of its total water supply.

SCP-5XXX is an entity possessing antimemetic properties whose reality-altering feeding process is currently affecting the nations of Morocco, Mauritania, Libya, the Disputed Zone of West Sahara, formerly known as the “Caliphate of ████████”, the Mediterranean Sea and, partially, Italy and Spain.

SCP-5XXX cannot be accurately described due to its immense informational inertia attributed to its innate antimemetic properties. All attempts at documenting or capturing images of the exact appearance of SCP-5XXX thus far have concluded in failure. Through historical accounts, SCP-5XXX is deduced to be approximately ████ kilometers in length, ██ kilometers wide, and █ kilometers in height. Several eyewitnesses have also claimed to perceive wraith-like manifestations during the SCP-5XXX’s feeding process.

SCP-5XXX has been speculated to be extremely mobile, even though it has remained in a single section of the world since its discovery.²

To sustain itself, SCP-5XXX will seek out and consume bodies of water containing high concentrations of Sodium Chloride at a rate of more than 1000 metric liters per second. As a part of its feeding process, SCP-5XXX, transforms the elemental composition of any absorbed water into the constituent elements of common sand such as Silicon, Aluminium, Calcium, and Potassium, expelling them from its body as a waste product. During this time, SCP-5XXX also excretes SCP-5XXX-1, a fine powder similar in appearance to non-anomalous sand that makes up the entirety of the Saharan Desert.

During the April of ████, it was discovered that SCP-5XXX is incapable of consuming bodies of water with a temperature lower than 20° Celsius within the past three to six months.³Following this breakthrough, Project SM01 was implemented and an artificial strait between the two continents was built to fuel the Mediterranean Sea with cold Antarctic water, in order to reach the temperature degrees of 19° Celsius artificially.

SCP-5XXX has been determined to be responsible for the creation of the Sahara desert spanning Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Egypt, Tunisia and Chad, the Accona desert in Italy and Tabernas desert in Spain.

Upon the conclusion of the First Foundation Martian Expedition on 09/12/████, soil samples retrieved were found to contain large amounts of SCP-XXXX-1.

On 09/14/████ by the order of the Overseer Council, it was declared that all Foundation personnel attached to public and private space agencies are to prevent any acquisition and analysis of Martian soil by non-Foundation entities through any means necessary. Research regarding the possibility of SCP-XXXX being of extraterrestrial origin is to be considered top priority.

In an effort to bolster research, containment and neutralization efforts, two Mobile Task Forces have been officially commissioned as of 09/12/████.

Mobile Task Force Tau-90

Task Force Mission: Mobile Task Force Tau-90 is responsible for the execution of Containment Protocol WY-1 within SCP-5XXX’s feeding zone. Devised in ████ in cooperation with the Global Occult Coalition, Protocol WY-1 involves the utilization of misinformation and extrinsic incentives in order to dissuade inhabitants of affected nations from polluting nearby waters.

As of 01/02/20██, the effectiveness of Protocol WY-1 is under review and all operations are on hold.

Mobile Task Force Xi-9

Task Force Mission: To date, numerous containment breaches have been attributed to the actions of prodigal nation-states within the entity’s feeding zone. In such extreme cases when Containment Protocol WY-1 is proven ineffective and water contamination levels approach the critical threshold, Mobile Task Force Xi-9 (“Father Knows Best”) is to be deployed and, as a last resort, execute Neutralization Protocol Romagnoli-Von Hermann.

In coordination with Foundation agents undercover within the nation, MTF Xi-9 is to orchestrate an internal regime change and declare the region a “Free State of the People”. Martial law is to be imposed on the local population and all sources of contamination destroyed.

Once this has been accomplished, MTF Xi-9 is to release Deluge-Class Airborne Kill Agents into the surrounding atmosphere and the nation to be liquidated and removed from collective memory via amendments to geological data, and Class C, G Amnestics distributed globally.
