Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Discovery:
SCP-XXXX was discovered on ██/26/99 after many residents in an apartment complex reported "disturbing" sounds emanating from the basement of the complex. A team of seven local law enforcement officers, including two undercover Foundation personnel, were dispatched to investigate. Upon arrival at the scene, no sources to the sound could be located, until a sounds similar to a surgical dremel were heard from behind an empty bookshelf. The shelf was moves aside, and an unlocked door was found and opened. Inside the door was a small room, with a bald Caucasian man hunched over a human eye visible from the entryway. After attempting to question the man, he committed suicide via a single gunshot through the bottom of the jaw. Further investigation of the room revealed a jar of more human eyeballs in a small jar, and a journal containing descriptions of what the man was doing. For more information on the journal see [insert addendum here]. After five (5) minutes the dead Caucasian man's right eye removed itself from its eye socket, revealing four appendages which initial observation characterized as "spider-like'. This eye did not acknowledge the law enforcement officers or the undercover Foundation personnel. It climbed up to the table where the jar of human eyes were set, and pushed it off. The jar was found to contain 22 additional instances of SCP-XXXX, seven (7) of which died from the impact with the ground, or from lacerations from glass shards. After clean up of the room was completed, the 16 total SCP-XXXX instances, as well as all physical records and the journal were handed over to Foundation Containment Team 039. All digital records were expunged and all law enforcement officers involved given Class-A amnestics

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 5 meter by 4 meter by 3 meter, low security containment, under constant video surveillance. Two armed guards are to be stationed at the entrance to SCP-XXXX's containment to prevent attempted containment breaches, and to prevent unauthorized access to SCP-XXXX. Only personnel Level 3 or above may interact with SCP-XXXX, unless they are aiding a Level 3 or above researcher in an interaction. SCP-XXXX is to be provided with a puzzle, mind game, or other mentally tasking activity once per week to deter activity that could result in a containment breach. If SCP-XXXX has not finished/solved the activity at the end of the week, the activity is to be removed from SCP-XXXX's containment and re-inserted after one month.

SCP-XXXX instances are to be fed 3 grams of non acidic fruits and vegetables per SCP-XXXX instance per day. The food is to be in pieces no larger than 1 cubic milimeter to allow for easy consumption. In addition, the food is to be placed in a different location each time, so SCP-XXXX instances have to work to get it, to keep their minds occupied.

Proposals have been made to have SCP-XXXX as a method of maintaining constant watch on SCP-173, but due to SCP-XXXX's nature, this proposal was shut down.

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a collection of disembodied eyeballs with four nerve-like appendages sprouting from it's "body." SCP-XXXX is about the size of a human eyeball and is of a biomechanical nature. Dissections show a miniature motherboard of unknown brand and model about 5 mm by 3 mm in size, connected by nerves to the back of the retina. No transmission devices have been found on any motherboards found inside SCP-XXXX instances. The "flesh" of SCP-XXXX has conduction properties similar to that of copper, but the same hardness and flexibility as a non-anomalous human eye.

Instances of SCP-XXXX seem to have no respiratory system, and nervous and skeletal systems are fused into one, with the muscular system being inside the skeletal system, taking the form of rigid, but mobile nerve-like structures both within the eye, and protruding from it. SCP-XXXX seems to be able to eat by forcing food through the eye, however no digestive fluids have been found in any SCP-XXXX instances.

SCP-XXXX reproduces on average every other week via mitosis, and has been shown to mutate quickly to changes in its environment. The mutations occur when a SCP-XXXX instance reproduces and the offspring are completely adapted to suit the environment. Due to the rapid mutation upon reproduction, SCP-XXXX instances will often reproduce when put in an abnormal environment to ensure its survival. Such examples are fin-like appendages when the parent is submersed in water, larger pupils when the parent left in the dark, and increased body temperature after the parent was frozen. However, if one instance of SCP-XXXX watches another instance experience exposure to something that kills or harms it, its offspring will be immune or resistant to it. For this reason, any instances of SCP-XXXX that view another SCP-XXXX instance be destroyed after or during testing are to be destroyed along with it so prevent its offspring from being immune/resistant to the method of destruction.

SCP-XXXX has shown to be sentient and is often seen watching the security cameras in its containment, playing with other SCP-XXXX instances, or working on mind puzzles provided to it by Foundation personnel. The SCP-XXXX instances have been found to work together in solving problems. Some examples are multiple SCP-XXXX instances moving a small cup and connecting together to form temporary rafts, bridges, and staircases, when their food is put in a hard to reach location. One notable work of collaboration by SCP-XXXX instances is the formation of a centipede-like creature composed of anywhere from 5 to 55 SCP-XXXX instances. This form of SCP-XXXX is commonly used by SCP-XXXX to ambulate over difficult terrain or climb sheer surfaces.
