Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a medium security vault at all times, and under constant video surveillance. No personnel below level 4 are to have any notions of moving SCP-XXXX under any circumstances. Any personnel at or above level 4 should alert at least one level 4 or above personnel of their notion so preparations to retrieve SCP-XXXX from the thought of location can be made. To aid in preventing the spontaneous relocation of SCP-XXXX all knowledge of SCP-XXXX is to be restricted to level 3 or above, and interactions with SCP-XXXX need approval from at least one (1) level 4 or above personnel. Any level 2 or below personnel given access or knowledge of SCP-XXXX for any purposes are to be administered Class B amnestics. If questions arise about any changes to reality involving SCP-XXXX, the personnel in question is to be told a cover story including any other reality bending SCP.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is a silver coin valuing at $0.25 USD. The coin itself takes the form of the most recent iteration of the U.S. quarter dollar. SCP-XXXX appears to be unbreakable/easily dented, but after the damage is observed, the two possibilities merge into an in-between state, usually resulting in a scratch appearing on the coin, which appears to heal itself in a time between 1.5 hours and 4 days.
Properties:
SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties are shown primarily when it is spun in any way, usually by flipping. When flipped, and forced flat against a surface, the coin has a 100% chance to land both heads and tails. The next interaction the subject who flipped the coin makes will cause a DT-class Split Timeline Scenario, each depicting the most likely outcome of the aforementioned interaction. See Test-XXXX-1 for details.
If SCP-XXXX is flipped, and allowed to fall onto any surface, without interference, the coin has a 100% chance to land on heads, tails, and on its side, causing a DT-class Timeline Trio Scenario, in which three separate timelines are created. This will split the next interaction the of subject who flipped the coin into the two most likely outcomes, and the least likely outcome, which occurs in the timeline in which the coin landed on its side. See Test-XXXX-2 for details.
After the immediate effects of SCP-XXXX are concluded, a TC-class Timeline Convergence Scenario will occur, in which the split timelines converge. When this happens, there are two possible outcomes. If the convergence follows a Split Timeline Scenario, it will average out the effects of the interaction. If the convergence follows a Timeline Trio Scenario, it will keep the effects that were constants in 2/3 of the split timelines, if an effect has no common occurrences it will be averaged in a similar manner to a Split Timeline Scenario.
Interestingly, any digital records made in these branch timelines are each preserved when the branches merge. The files will all have the same file name, but remain separate, with different details from each timeline. In addition, each individual involved with the branch timelines will remember everything from each timeline. Due to this, Class A amnestics are to be administered after each test involving SCP-XXXX, to prevent any psychological damage on the individuals involved.
The psychological effects of SCP-XXXX range from mild confusion and migraines, to schizophrenia,
dissociative identity disorder, depression, anxiety, suicidal and homicidal tendencies, paranoia, and psychosis. Individuals with pre-existing mental conditions see these conditions worsen, to a point where they become almost brain dead, or recess into a child-like state. Individuals in either state appear to be unable to think about or feel anything, and often die of malnutrition, dehydration, or from seizures.
Tests:
Test-XXXX-1 - ██/██/2007
Subject: SCP-XXXX
Procedure: Subject D-486279 is instructed to flip SCP-XXXX and then press the small gray button on the table, which has a 50% chance to turn on a light positioned in front of the table.
Results: Results inconclusive. The light appeared to be on off both on and off, casting shadows with no light emanating from the bulb. So far everyone involved with the test is experiencing migraines, and two audio recordings of the test were found in the database, when only one was made. The written records look to be written over with two separate instances of documentation. The audio recordings created from Test-XXXX-1 appear to show no anomalous occurrences during the testing, it is only afterwards where SCP-XXXX's effects seem take place.
Transcripts of the audio recordings can be found below:
Analysis:
SCP-XXXX created a superposition of the light bulb being both on and off, but was not noticed until after the event was triggered. Further tests on SCP-XXXX are required to understand exactly what it does.
All personnel involved have been administered Class A amnestics, but the cause for the headaches is currently unknown, and will be the subject of a future test.
