Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Item is to remain at its current location. An exclusion zone of 200m radius is to be established with warning buoys and underwater surveillance. A liaison within the Harbor Police is to handle monitoring and enforcement of exclusion zone, under a cover story of environmental research. No proposals for further testing are being accepted at this time.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a granite statue on a separate granite base, currently resting on the seafloor of New York Harbor at a depth of 15 m. Residue and tool damage suggests a bronze plaque was previously affixed to its base.

The statue depicts a male over 50 with muscular build, dressed in attire common to fishermen and dock workers in the early 20th century. It displays detail work of a quality impossible to achieve with conventional stone carving tools, including individual pores on its skin, and a complete lack of visible tool marks. It is completely free of barnacles and other marine fauna, but does attract a thin layer of algae and sediment. Sedimentary analysis places it at its current location since the 1930s.

Due to natural erosion, water surrounding the object is charged with thaumic radiation that causes discomfort in humans and animals, manifesting as a prickling on the skin, slight disorientation, and a feeling of being watched. Baseline thaumic output is 11 Cr, but damaging or attempting to move SCP-XXXX causes an extreme thaumic spike with unpredictable manifestations, including:

  • Aggressive behavior in animals (especially sea life, horses, and bulls)
  • Earthquakes
  • Storm activity
  • [REDACTED]

Damage to the base does not cause this effect.

Addendum 1: Abridged list of notable incidents and their effects.

Date: April 17, 2004
Incident: Sample removed for testing.
Damage: 4 mm3 chip removed from SCP-XXXX.
Effects: Three draft horses being transported by ferry broke restraints and ran rampant. Multiple injuries, no human fatalities. All three horses terminated, one by gunshot wound, one by drowning, and one by dismemberment via propeller.
Outcome: Incident was not correlated with sample-gathering attempt until 2011. Sample showed unusual composition consistent with petrified tissue.

Date: June 22, 2010
Incident: Sample removed for testing.
Damage: 1 cm3 chip removed from SCP-XXXX.
Effects: 3.9 magnitude earthquake felt in Long Island
Outcome: Sample lost during earthquake. Correlation noted and investigated. Closer monitoring advised.

Date: September 30, 2014
Incident: Accidental release of anchor over SCP-XXXX from Foundation research vessel.
Damage: Significant scoring damage to back portion of SCP-XXXX, including a chunk approximately 4 cm3 from statue’s coat.
Effects: Agent ████ [REDACTED] Captain █████ released anchor chain and hit full speed for open water. [REDACTED] Other onboard agents attempted to subdue Agent ████ [REDACTED]. The boat travelled 10 km from initial site before capsizing [REDACTED]. All hands on board perished.
Outcome: Foundation naval assets called in [REDACTED]. Cover story about naval war games disseminated to media. Site director approves salvage of SCP-XXXX to avoid further incidents.

Date: January 7, 2015
Incident: Attempted salvage of SCP-XXXX. Object wrapped in waterproof padding material, secured with chain.
Damage: None observed.
Effects: Massive thaumic discharge.
Outcome: Two agents in the water expire instantly. Autopsy [REDACTED]. Three agents on deck suffer cardiac arrest. One successfully resuscitated, but suffers permanent loss of hearing. All further salvage operations halted.

Addendum 2: Agents executing an unrelated raid on a bar suspected of trafficking in anomalous artifacts found its owner, a former salvage diver designated POI-█████, deceased via petrification. Samples of the statue matched the composition of SCP-XXXX.

In addition to numerous unrelated items and documents (catalogued separately in Operation Report-█████), recovered security footage, a handwritten note, and a bronze plaque (waterproofed) were deemed relevant to SCP-XXXX.

Security footage: Digitally recorded on an external drive. Camera was rendered non-operational by calcification of internal components. Extremely poor audio quality due to micphone placement near air vent.

Note: Handwritten with a ballpoint pen. Found attached to plaque with clear plastic tape. Letterhead matches paper found in office. Tape matches roll found on desk. Ink matches pens found in office. No recoverable fingerprints.

Plaque: 18 cm x 12 cm. Bronze, waterproofed with wax. Rivet holes and bronze residue match base of SCP-XXXX.
