SCP-X

Object class: Safe

Containment Procedure

SCP-X is currently contained on a computer running an open client of the online chatroom application [REDACTED], currently known as SCP-X-1. No entry is to be gained to the room containing SCP-X-1 without confirmation from staff with level three clearance. All personnel accessing SCP-X-1 must be equipped with digital filtering glasses to avoid the anomalous effects of SCP-X. Testing with SCP-X-1 is prohibited by order of the O-5 council. If SCP-X is viewed directly and a relocation event is triggered, the computer on which SCP-X has manifested is to be located as soon as possible, then returned to Site-[REDACTED] for recontainment.

Description

SCP-X is an online cognitohazard with no discernable origin. It manifests as a color-inverted version of the chatroom [REDACTED]. If viewed directly, the victim will experience a burning sensation starting behind the eyes. This will spread until the victim is completely incapacitated from pain, then the victim’s corpse will ignite. After a victim has been affected, SCP-X will manifest itself in another client of [REDACTED].

SCP-X was first discovered on [DATA EXPUNGED] when a string of fires around the world broke out. The only common link was that a computer that had been running [REDACTED] was always found having escaped most of the damage. A pattern was identified as to target selection, and units of MTF Echo-7 (Digistorm) were dispatched to the locations deemed most likely for the next occurrence.
Due to its exposure, the Foundation uses standard cover story Delta-36-C (Implemented Feature) to prevent a security breach. The application developers have been contacted, and have implemented a non-anomalous copy of SCP-X into the application.
