Special Containment Procedures: Due to rapid and constant changes to the document it has been decided by Prof. █████████ that all blocks of text marked with Example shall signify pieces of information that could regain their relevance at a future date.
This document has been categorized unrestricted from Level 2 or above personnel. This could change if Anomalous properties resume at any point.
The Foundation originally decided to contain the mirror due to the item possessing the ability to act as a window to another dimension. Various Foundation personnel mutually agreed that containing the item could be beneficial to the Foundation after testing. Though some Foundation personnel did not agree with containing such an item, and were vociferous in making their opinions known.
We at the Foundation have found that further containment after neutralization is needed due to the unknown capabilities of the object. Some Foundation theorists have suggested that the item might not even be neutralized, but in a temporarily disabled state.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a large 19th century mirror mostly composed of wood and glass, with a small metallic rim lining the various edges of the mirror. It weighs around 13.6 kilograms and stands 182 centimeters tall. SCP-XXXX is capable of causing 3 entities to manifest whenever the reflective segment of the mirror is viewed for a prolonged period of time (Entities have formally been designated SCP-XXXX-1).
Tests have concluded that SCP-XXXX is a 'window' of sorts to view an extra-dimensional plane of existence, though the tests also indicated that only a small "area" of the dimension can be viewed through the mirror. This small 'area' does change depending on where the mirror is currently located to effectively simulate the reflections present in a normal mirror. Attempting to enter the dimension through the item is inherently impossible, thus deeming expeditions into the location "not possible".
SCP-XXXX-1 has been reported as 3 entities resembling small human children, approximately the size of an average 5 year old. SCP-XXXX-1 is capable of deleting its self from any form recorded video it can be seen in. This also applies to audio recordings that the entities can be heard on.
SCP-XXXX-1 does NOT pose any direct threat and only induces states of paranoia amongst people within its presence. Although a small number of viewers have reportedly disappeared after viewing SCP-XXXX. However this occurrence is limited.
SCP-XXXX-1 can only manifest when a human views SCP-XXXX for a prolonged period of time, usually around 5-10 minutes. It will begin its manifestation cycle through auditory hallucinations. These consist of personnel hearing voices resembling their own.
The second stage of manifestation is actual visual manifestations (though the entities are not physically manifested) of the entities, the entities will be seen appearing behind the viewer in 3 second intervals. The final stage of manifestation is physical manifestation the entities will physically materialize behind the viewer and will maintain constant eye contact with them through the mirror until the viewer exits the room.
Some notes were discovered along with SCP-XXXX however the meaning and context are vague (see addenda).
Here is an interview of a viewer of SCP-XXXX and their description of their encounter with SCP-XXXX-1:
Interviewed: D-12831
Interviewer: Dr. Leonard
Foreword: This Interview transcript covers D-12831's encounter with SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1. Dates and times have been removed as the importance of them are not thought to be relevant at this time. The symbol * shall be used to indicate non verbal action(s).
<Begin Log>
Dr. Leonard: Hello, My name is Dr. Leonard. I'm the Lead Researcher of SCP-XXXX and I'm conducting this Interview today to better understand the anomalous effects of this item.
D-12831: Well, I suppose as you… are the interviewer Dr. Leonard you should ask me questions and I will answer *gestures his hand forward implying Dr. Leonard to begin*
Dr. Leonard: Okay, lets start off slow then. What were you first emotional reactions when first viewing SCP-XXXX?
D-12831: I felt… somewhat… sad, like I had uh, just witnessed someone whom I didn't know… die, it was disconcerting to say the least.
Dr. Leonard: I see. Now… were there any other kind of emotional buildups after this?
D-12831: No, not really.
Dr. Leonard: "Not really"? Elaborate, D-12831.
D-12831: Uhm, it was a feeling hard to explain with words, almost like someone was standing right in front of me and staring inside of me, almost as if my reflection wasn't me at all.
Dr. Leonard: Interesting, now It appears that we are running out of time on this interview, so I'm going to ask you two more questions.
D-12831: Go ahead, ask away.
Dr. Leonard: So when SCP-XXXX-1 finally manifested, what did you feel in its presence?
D-12831: At first I felt absolutely terrified, but then I began to feel sorry for it, and it seemed like it was trying to talk to me and tell me what happened to it.
Dr. Leonard: *Quickly writes a note in his Foundation diary and lifts his head up with a sigh* So after leaving the containment room safely, what further emotional reactions did you feel?
D-12831: *Long pause with no response*
Dr. Leonard: I'm going to ask again, what further emotional reactions did you experience upon exiting the containment room safely!?
D-12831: *D-12831 doesn't answer*
Dr. Leonard: Well i suppose that concludes today's interview.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: D-12831 is terminated for "Lack of Cooperation with Foundation Personnel" and Dr. Leonard begins further testing on SCP-XXXX.Testing Logs:
Various testing on this item has occurred and with varying results.
A full list of all the testing logs can be found below1:
- Test XXXX-A - 2/12/18
Subject: D-12958
Procedure: D-12958 was kept in a room with SCP-XXXX for 2 hours blindfolded.
Results: Nothing Anomalous occurred within the time frame.
Analysis: After Test XXXX-A was conducted it has been noted that SCP-XXXX can not begin manifesting the entities if the viewer is unaware that it is viewing the mirror.
- Test XXXX-2 - 1/5/19
Subject: D-3953
Procedure: D-3953 was supplied with a stop watch and ordered to view the mirror for no longer than 5 minutes.
Results: Sounds of disembodied voices resembling the voice of D-3935 was heard but nothing else other than D-3953 experiencing unusual amounts of what the subject deemed "paranoia".
Analysis: Humans viewing the mirror for 5 minutes experience discomfort and hear disembodied voices somewhat resembling their own although exact words could not be made out.
- Test XXXX-3 - 5/9/19
Subject: D-12451 and D-159726
Procedure: D-12451 and D-159726 both entered the room and were instructed to simultaneously view the mirror for approximately 1 hour.
Results: D-12451 and D-159726 both recalled seeing 3 small figures move quickly about the room behind them though their exact features were impossible to confirm.
Analysis: Tests conclude that SCP-XXXX still manifests the entities in the same time frame regardless of viewers.2
Investigation Team Delta-09: Dr. Leonard3
decided to send a small Foundation investigation team into the original discovery point of SCP-XXXX, the team was composed of 5 people, all working under the order of Dr. Leonard.
The team began investigating the origin site at around 9am on 1/4/20 and mostly found old rags and clothes that would of fit young children. The first few weeks of investigation were uneventful mostly, all the team found were broken shards of glass and old stomped out fires.
Investigation Team Delta-09 eventually discovered an old notebook, filled with dates and entries written by a now speculated young child. The team upon this discovery requested a full description of OS-XXXX to be included with SCP-XXXX's document.
The contents of the notebook before and leading up to and the discovery of SCP-XXXX: The contents of the notebook follow the life of a young homeless boy named Charles. He, and his 2 friends are all 5 years old and homeless. they write about the great adventures they are going to embark on when they are older. Then they all end up discussing writing a story about their imagination.
At this point, the notebook suddenly changed to a much darker tone, disturbingly dark for writers of only 5 years. The entries, reproduced below, refer to an old bungalow they come across.
The kids describe the Bungalow as being very dirty and not offering many soft places to sleep, but its the best they are going to do for now. they also add that "There is a strange mirror that is makes us feel weird" which Dr. Leonard has determined to be the kids making contact with SCP-XXXX, as this matches up with the emotional reactions the D-Class all experienced4.
The contents of the notebook after the discovery of SCP-XXXX: The contents within the notebook after the discovery are disorganized, and get a lot harder to read as the children become per-occupied with the mirror. The kids write about the "strange old man" they see behind them through the mirror. They also mention "strange" and "scary" voices coming from the walls once again matching up with the experiences of the D-Class.
The last entry simply reads:
"I'm scared, the weird old mirror man got angry at us, and we are all scared of him" the last entry was marked 21/4/17 the day before the children were discovered5
Dr. Leonard's interview with SCP-XXXX-1: Dr. Leonard was given permission from 05 council members to conduct a direct interview with SCP-XXXX-1 after reading the notebook. The full interview can be found in the collapsible below:
Addendum 1: Transportation Protocol 8-XXXX is a strict set of procedures originally written by Dr. Leonard but subsequently revised by Prof. █████████ for transporting SCP-XXXX from Storage Site-200 to Research Site-45 via helicopter. This set of procedures are listed in full below:
1. Item is to be stored in a titanium box padded out with polystyrene relative to the size of the mirror (approximately 182 centimeters). The titanium is to be precisely 5 millimeters thick. The box is to be locked with a specialised microchip lock which requires 2 personnel to insert their respective cards (unique SCP-XXXX cards have been designated to Prof. █████████ and Dr. Leonard Agent Jacob.
2. The box containing the item is then securely positioned within a Foundation helicopter.
3. The helicopter is to then transport the item to Site-45.
4. Delivery Crew 95 will then proceed to transport the item to its designated chamber within the Site.
Warning: Under regulation XXXX-Alpha6 Failing to follow these procedures to exact order is punishable by imprisonment and/or termination
Addendum 2: Project Probe is an event that shall only be carried out by ITF Reflecti-5 ("Mirror Explorers"), in the event of SCP-XXXX-1 is realized or a potential entity manifests with SCP-XXXX. The Project is a small collection of equipment designed specifically for physical interaction with SCP-XXXX, and any entity it manifests. A full list of the equipment can be found below:
A short range radio receiver
A short range radio transmitter
Various Surveillance equipment (audio and video)
A large Flathead drill
5 Batteries of varying voltage and power
Infrared laser equipment
Dr. Leonard Prof. █████████ is to monitor Project Probe throughout all tests with no exceptions.
Addendum 3: ITF Reflecti-01 is an interior task force organized and commissioned by Dr. Leonard and Prof. █████████ under the idea that SCP-XXXX could manifest SCP-XXXX-1 without any Human viewing the mirror. Though this theory was proven redundant after Test XXXX-███ and thus the task force was decommissioned by Prof. █████████ after Dr. Leonard's imprisonment.
The Interior Task Force was re-commissioned after Prof. █████████ conceived the idea and plausible theory that the item is in fact temporarily disabled instead of being neutralized.
The new primary goal of ITF Reflecti-01 ("Mirror Explorers") is to attempt re-activation of the item, and attempt contact with the entities. The secondary goal is to measure various side effects of the item such as using radio equipment.
Clothing and dress code: The dress code of ITF Reflecti-01 ("Mirror Explorers") consists of the following:
- Trench coat (black colour scheme).
- Black leather gloves
- Gas mask (mandatory when handling SCP-XXXX)
- Large leather boats (black).
