Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5671-a is to be contained with noise cancelation measures to prevent accidental sounding, which may include:
- foam slabs of thickness 10 cm or greater with interior pockets molded to the shape of the object, held together by fabric straps with knots;
- wool hides wrapped around the object so that multiple layers protect it, secured with tape;
- suspension in gelatin so that the exterior surface is at a minimum 30 cm from the object or layer of protection contained within.
Additional suggested measures are available in Document SCP-5671-███. Should suggested measures be impractical or unattainable, researchers are permitted to devise their own measures so long as they demonstrably:
- use at least one containment method that is proven to reduce sound production;
- prevent hard or rigid materials from approaching the object.
All reading materials under the designation SCP-5671-b-XXXX-n are not to be opened or viewed by anyone under Level 4 Clearance unless they are specifically declassified, due to the nature of such documents potentially including information that is redacted or expunged elsewhere in the Foundation's records.
Description: SCP-5671 consists of two parts:
SCP-5671-a is a metal object of dimensions 15cm x 10cm x 1cm, appearing roughly similar in shape to a horseshoe or the Greek capital letter Ω (omega). It is clearly subdivided into 10 different sections by engraved lines on the surface and a raised surface for each section. SCP-5671-a is surprisingly resonant and will produce clear diatonic tones in the key of B flat, ranging from A3 to C5, dependent on which section of the object is struck by a hard surface. These notes will be later referred to as 0-9 from lowest to highest pitch respectively.
