Item #: SCP–4247
Object Class: Thaumiel
Special Containment Procedures: SCP–4247 is to be kept in Room ███ at Site ██. SCP–4247 is to be set to Mode 1 while in containment and may not be activated at any time, except when being used. Usage of SCP–4247 on other SCPs must be authorized by a member of the O5 Council, the researcher/s responsible for the SCP in question, and Dr. Theodore Fogger.
Description: SCP–4247 appears to be an ordinary Panasonic RQ2102 cassette player, with the normal keys being replaced by (from left to right): “Play”, “Stop”, “Mode1”, “Mode2”, “Mode3” and “Mode4”. When played, the cassette player seems to play an audio recording of a male voice reading a book titled “Highly Advanced Algebraic and Trigonometric Problems: A Brief Summary”. No such book has been reported to have been ever produced. The audio recording seems to continue indefinitely until stopped.
Playing SCP–4247 while set to Mode 1 plays a reading of the audiobook. After approximately 5 minutes listening to the recording, the test subject will enter a sleeping state lasting approximately 3 hours after the moment the recording is stopped. These periods of time may vary according to the subject’s alertness, mental capacity and understanding of Algebra and Trigonometry.
Test A – ██/██/████
Subject: D–Personnel 70403-348
Procedure: Subject sat on a stool while SCP–4247 was played at Mode 1. Subject was reported as average in mental capacity and alertness was average. Subject has basic understanding of Algebra/Trigonometry.
Results: After approximately 5 minutes, subject fell asleep. Sleeping state lasted approximately 3 hours after stopping of the recording. No collateral damage was perceived on subject after the experiment.
Analysis: Standard time for SCP–4247’s property manifestation on Mode 1 set.
Test B – ██/██/████
Subject: D–Personnel 70403–348
Procedure: Same as Test A, except subject was given 5 cups of coffee before the experiment.
Results: Same as Test A, except the subject fell asleep after approximately 10 minutes and sleep state lasted approximately 2 hours.
Analysis: Alertness of the subject increases wakefulness time and decreases sleep time.
Test C – ██/██/████
Subject: D–Personnel 65731–004
Procedure: Same as Test A, except Test subject has a very advanced understanding of Algebra/Trigonometry.
Results: Same as Test A, except the subject fell asleep after approximately 20 minutes.
Analysis: Understanding of Algebra/Trigonometry increases wakefulness time.
Test D – ██/██/████
Subject: D–Personnel 47260–582
Procedure: Same as Test A, except test subject has higher mental capacity.
Results: Same as Test A, except the subject fell asleep after approximately 15 minutes.
Analysis: Mental capacity increases wakefulness time.
Playing SCP–4247 while set to Mode 2 plays a slower version of the reading. After approximately 5 minutes listening to the recording, the test subject will enter a state of complete unconsciousness lasting approximately 1 day after the moment the recording is stopped. The above mentioned factors also seem to affect these periods of time.
Test E – ██/██/████
Subject: D–Personnel 70403–348
Procedure: Same as Test A, except SCP–4247 was set to Mode 2.
Results: After approximately 5 minutes listening to the recording, subject fell unconscious. Unconscious state lasted approximately 1 day after stopping of the recording. No collateral damage was perceived after the experiment.
Analysis: Standard time for SCP–4247’s property manifestation on Mode 2 set.
Test F – ██/██/████
Subject: D–Personnel 47260–582
Procedure: Same as Test E, except subject was taught a short course on advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, and given 5 cups of coffee before the experiment.
Results: Same as Test E, except the subject fell unconscious after approximately 20 minutes and unconscious state lasted approximately 23 hours.
Analysis: Alertness, mind capacity and understanding of Algebra/Trigonometry affect the wakefulness time and unconscious time in similar ways to Mode 1.
Playing SCP–4247 while set to Mode 3 plays an even slower version of the reading. After approximately 5 minutes listening to the recording, the test subject will enter a state of coma lasting approximately 6 months after the moment the recording is stopped. The above mentioned factors do not seem to affect these periods of time.
Test G – ██/██/████
Subject: D–Personnel 70403–348
Procedure: Same as Test A, except SCP–4247 was set to Mode 3.
Results: After approximately 5 minutes listening to the recording, subject entered a coma lasting 3 months. After awakening, subject took an additional month to fully recover.
**Analysis: Standard time for SCP–4247’s property manifestation on Mode 3 set.
Test H – ██/██/████
Subject: D–Personnel 47260–582
Procedure: Same as Test G, except subject was given 5 cups of coffee before the experiment.
Results: Same as Test G.
Analysis: Alertness, mind capacity and understanding of Algebra/Trigonometry do not affect results.
Playing SCP–4247 while set to Mode 4 plays the slowest version available of the reading. After approximately 5 minutes listening to the recording, the test subject will suffer total organ failure (TOF), resulting in immediate death. The above mentioned factors do not seem to affect these periods of time.
Test I – ██/██/████
Subject: D–Personnel 70403–348
Procedure: Same as Test A, except SCP–4247 was set to Mode 4.
Results: After approximately 5 minutes listening to the recording, subject suffered of total organ failure (TOL) and died immediately.
Analysis: Standard time for SCP–4247’s property manifestation on Mode 4 set.
Test J – ██/██/████
Subject: D–Personnel 47260–582
Procedure: Same as Test I, except subject was given 5 cups of coffee before the experiment.
Results: Same as Test I.
Analysis: Same as Test H.
Addendum: SCP–4247’s Mode 1 audio play has been proposed by Dr. Reginald Ericson as a means of helping contain Euclid or even Keter class SCPs which are difficult to contain using physical containment methods. Experimental containment of SCP–████ using SCP–4247 has been approved by Dr. Fogger, O5–█ and Dr. ███████, the researcher responsible for SCP–████. As of ██/██/████, testing is not yet concluded.
