Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4357 is to be kept in a locked box away from the medical facility. All medical staff are required to check all bags of blood before authorizing any sort of blood transfusion, as SCP-4357 has a tendency to appear in the backup blood bags before an operation. The farther away from the medical area, the less likely SCP-4357 is to end up there.
Description: SCP-4357 is a 5.67 liter bag of blood that is considerably darker than regular human blood. It is A+ blood type. Despite rigorous tests and examinations, the blood could not be identified with any known creature discovered on Earth.
Discovery: SCP-4357 was discovered by Dr. Randy Thornton on Antarctic Research Site #[REDACTED]. When questioned by MTF, he claimed that he needed to get backup blood for an operation on a seriously injured researcher when he found the entity. It was quickly transported back to the Foundation. After SCP-4357 was recovered, Dr. Kuzey conducted 3 experiments with the anomaly, all of which are recorded below.
Test A - ██/██/██
Subject: D-6678.
Procedure: Dr. Kuzey injects 5 mL of SCP-4357 into a vein in D-6678's arm. D-6678 has been locked in a heavily secured chamber to ensure the safety of all personnel involved. All vital signs are monitored every hour for 6 hours. A shock collar will be placed on D-6678.**
Results: 0 hours: D-6678 seems to be behaving normally, and his organs seem to have no deviations in functionality. 1 hour: D-6678's iron levels seem to be dropping in his blood. A desire for red meat has increased, as he regularly calls out for some. Iron levels in the blood are decreasing. 2 hours: D-6678's skin is considerably paler than before. He is also experiencing dizzy spells and tiredness. Iron levels in the blood are still decreasing. 3 hours: D-6678 is rolling on the ground clutching his head, appearing to be in considerable pain. Iron levels in the blood still decreasing. 4 hours: D-6678 can no longer speak, as his mouth has swelled immensely. He is still clutching his head, and he is having heart palpitations. Iron levels are still decreasing, but at a slower rate. 5 hours: D-6678 has started vomiting blood, which is made very difficult due to his swollen mouth. D-6678 is frequently choking on the vomit, but always managing to expulse the material before he chokes to death. Iron levels steadily increasing. 6 hours: D-6678 has stopped vomiting, and iron levels have returned to normal. Dr. Kuzey stepped in to retrieve a blood sample from D-6678's arm and from the vomit on the floor. Blood analysis reveals that D-6678 had vomited out the blood that SCP-4357 had contaminated, as he had no trace of the entity in his body. D-6678's bodily functions and behavior had returned to normal.
Analysis: SCP-4357 will be expulsed by the body if iron levels are not maintained.
Test B - ██/██/██
Subjects: D-8512, D-8125.
Procedure: Dr. Kuzey injects 5 mL of SCP-4357 into a vein in D-8512's arm. D-8512 has been locked in a heavily secured chamber to ensure safety of all personnel involved. All vital signs will be monitored every hour for six hours. We will dispense red meat (a steak) every time D-8512 to make iron levels above average. A shock collar has been placed on D-8512.
Results:0 hours: D-8512's bodily functions and behavior are normal, as expected. 1 hour: D-8512 is having the same symptoms as D-6678. 3 steaks are dispensed into the room. He devours them all rapidly. Iron levels are steadily increasing. 2 hours: D-8512 wants more red meat. 5 steaks are dispensed into the room. He devours them all in 3 minutes. Iron levels rapidly increasing. 3 hours: D-8512 calls for more red meat, and D-8125 is placed into the chamber. D-8512 jumps nearly 3 meters and lands on D-8125, quickly ripping out her throat and devouring her whole body within ten minutes. D-8512 starts transforming, with his jaw splitting in half and his skin turning light gray. His eyes roll back in his head and his arms, legs, and torso start undergoing rapid muscular growth. His nails start growing and sharpening considerably. From this point forward, D-8512 will be referred to as SCP-4357-2. 4 hours: SCP-4357-2 has tried to escape frequently, but it could not break the chamber doors. However, SCP-4357-2 has not lost any higher brain function, as it tried to break the security cameras. Iron levels have plateaued at the current heightened state. 5 hours: SCP-4357-2 has begun to revert to its Class D Personnel state. The jaw has fused together and the muscular growth has reversed. Iron levels in the blood are decreasing rapidly. 6 hours: SCP-4357-2 has completely reverted back into D-8512. Iron levels have returned to a normal level. D-8512 is unconscious. A blood test analysis has revealed that SCP-4357 is still in D-8512's blood stream. A facility guard was brought in and carried D-8512 to the incinerator, where D-8512 was terminated. **
Analysis:** If a subject containing SCP-4357 consumes enough iron, the subject will transform into SCP-4357-2, which is very dangerous.
"Do not, at any time, let anyone with an open wound near SCP-4357. If the anomaly enters the bloodstream, infected personnel will be terminated immediately. We don't need an outbreak here." -Dr. Kuzey
