Item #: SCP-5958

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Object shall be kept in a box made of glass, 300 cm on all sides. It should have a 1 km distance from any form of painting supplies, including canvases, paints of all sizes and colors, and easels. Paintbrushes and paint rollers do not fit into this category

Description: SCP-5958, also known as The Paintbrush of Fate, is a seemingly ordinary paintbrush. There is no branding seen anywhere on the brush itself. It may have defining features on it, including paint stains or a messy brush head which may have paint on it, and is made of cedar wood. All attempts to stain the brush tips have resulted in no stains on the brush itself, except for any pre existing stains, nor is there any sign of the brush ever having been used. It appears to be a handmade brush, that changes appearance based on who finds it. To some it appears of differing sizes and shapes, as well as some branding.

Once brought within around 1 km of a can of paint, or any painting supplies, the brush tends to affect the person holding it, causing them to seemingly black out, and find themselves waking up to a painting.

Depending on the period of time that the affected person is asleep, they may find themselves in the midst of making the painting. The contents of the painting seem to always be a very highly detailed representation of the death of the person, in almost infinite scenarios. Once the painting is complete, the brush disappears to a nearby area, waiting for someone else to find it. The events depicted in the painting always come true, after extensive testing.

The paint brush was found in the apartment of someone who was recently found dead due to a car accident while they were crossing the street to a local art supply store. The fact they were heading to a art supply store suggests the paintbrush was affecting them more heavily then every other recorded instance.

Date Painting and Death
March 16th, 20██ A Class D Foundation member happened upon the paintbrush as it was being transported to containment. The paint stains on his clothes from a recent testing appeared to attract the brush to him, and used the stains to paint a portrait of the member running into SCP-████ during a containment breach, with mouth agape as his internal organs were torn out.
March 17th. 20██ Dr ███████, well known for making caricatures of SCPs was found dead with a blood splattered portrait depicting him in the exact position he was found in.

Notes: SCP-5958 should not be brought anywhere near human contact, as it was recently found out that even microscopic flecks of paint can attract it's attention. No one who was been within 1 meter of paint throughout their lives should be brought near SCP-5958
