Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a small, wooden box stored within a standard containment locker. Any tests related to SCP-XXXX is to take place within a room that has a decontamination unit at the entrance and a nearby storage closet and bathroom for cleanup purposes with the room itself being large enough to hold at least 3-4 individuals at once. Upon being used for testing purposes a researcher, a subject (preferably a D-Class personnel), and a third individual on standby for any issues that may occur are required to be present for the testing. As of Incident XXXX-02 two or more subjects are no longer permitted to perform tests with SCP-XXXX at the same time, all requests to do testing with more than one individual will be denied.

Description: SCP-XXXX takes the appearance of a red, rubber ball 10 centimeters in diameter that, when it comes into contact with the skin of a human individual, the properties of SCP-XXXX will change while its appearance stays the same. The object will return to its original state when it loses contact from the skin and comes into contact with another surface. The changes in SCP-XXXX’s properties are inconsistent and few tests have provided similar results, for sake of not being repetitive, these tests are to not be included in the documentation but still be noted down in the official test logs.
A request to use SCP-XXXX for recreation was filed and the request was in consideration to be approved, however, the request was then denied following Incident XXXX-01.

Document SCP-XXXXa (regarding Incident XXXX-01) Dr. Lemwicken picked up SCP-XXXX to explain the recreational possibilities of the object, however upon picking up the ball he immediately dropped and screamed in pain as the skin of his hands were burnt down to his bones. When asked about what the object felt like he replied with molten lava, Dr. Lemwicken was rushed to the infirmary and the request of using SCP-XXXX was denied due to the dangers of the random aspect of the object’s nature.

Test 01 -

Subject: D-XXXX-01
Procedure: Subject must pick up SCP-XXXX and describe in detail what it feels like.
Results: The object felt like a coat of soft fur and was warm to the touch though the appearance remained as a red, rubber ball.
Analysis: The object is only able to change its properties and not its actual appearance, it has been concluded that SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects can only be felt.

Test 02 -

Subject: D-XXXX-01
Procedure: Subject must pick up SCP-XXXX and describe in detail what it feels like and then drop it.
Results: The object felt smooth and heavy to the touch. Upon dropping SCP-XXXX a loud, shattering sound equivalent to glass breaking erupted from the object before bouncing back up to signify that the object had reverted back to its original state.
Analysis: The properties of the object revert back only when it has made contact with another surface. SCP-XXXX is also able to produce sound under the right conditions.

Test 03 -

Subject: D-XXXX-03
Procedure: Subject must pick up SCP-XXXX and describe in detail what it feels like.
Results: The object felt like a layer of rough, thick scales and the subject reported hearing a faint heartbeat emitting from the center.
Analysis: The object is capable of changing its properties to a living creature, no intelligence has been noted during the experiment.

Test 04 -

Subject: D-XXXX-04
Procedure: Subject must pick up SCP-XXXX and describe in detail what it feels like.
Results: The object had the weight and texture of a baseball, with the individual stitching being felt when rubbing the ball with their hands.
Analysis: Similar tests have been conducted which show that SCP-XXXX is able to take on the aspects of various sports balls.

Test 11 -

Subject: D-XXXX-06
Procedure: Subject must pick up SCP-XXXX and describe in detail what it feels like.
Results: The object retained its rubber ball properties, subject in turn bounced the ball and caught it before immediately dropping it again as they started bleeding from their hands. They were bandaged up and when asked about the incident they said that the ball felt sharp and jagged yet not physical extrusions were spotted on the ball.
Analysis: Individuals will not experience the same thing if SCP-XXXX returns to its original state and they pick it up again.

Test 15 -

Subject: D-XXXX-07
Procedure: Subject must pick up SCP-XXXX and describe in detail what it feels like.
Results: The object felt like a hamburger with the softness of the bun down to the smell of it being freshly grilled. Permission was given to the subject to bite into it, afterward, they described it tasting exactly like what was described earlier and being able to tell what was on the burger. After SCP-XXXX was placed back on the pillow no visible bite marks were shown.
Analysis: Not only is the object capable of assuming the properties of an edible item but it is also able to repair any damage dealt while it was in a changed state. Further testing has been approved to test its edible properties if they should happen again.

Test 18 -

Subject: D-XXXX-08
Procedure: Subject must pick up SCP-XXXX, describe in detail what it feels like, and proceed to consume it if edible properties were gained.
Results: The object was squishy and slimy in texture, the subject being able to squeeze it. When put back into the box a red slimy substance comparable to the color of SCP-XXXX was stuck to the subject's hands. It was removed promptly, and the subject was decontaminated afterward. The substance was dubbed SCP-XXXX-01 and is awaiting permission to be studied to see if it exhibits the same properties as SCP-XXXX.
Analysis: SCP-XXXX is able to leave traces of itself on the subject's hands if it is in a capable state of having a secondary substance stick to their hands.

Test 20 -

Subject: D-XXXX-09
Procedure: Subject must pick up SCP-XXXX, describe in detail what it feels like, and proceed to consume it if edible properties were gained.
Results: The object was unable to be picked up, the subject mentioned that it felt like it weighed over 200 kg. Tests are unable to be performed to see exactly how much it weighed due to it losing the anomalous properties when it touches another surface.
Analysis: No additional information was gained from this experiment.

Test 23 -

Subject: D-XXXX-10
Procedure: Subject must pick up SCP-XXXX, describe in detail what it feels like, and proceed to consume it if edible properties were gained.
Results: The object was described as a slice of cake, subject revealed one of their hands to show that it was covered in red frosting before beginning to consume it and described the taste being that of a red velvet cake. After one-fourth of the way in the subject began feeling nauseated and dropped the object before falling down to their knees and proceeded to vomit a red-substance. the subject was rushed to the infirmary, and a cleaning crew was sent in to decontaminate the room.
Analysis: SCP-XXXX has self-preservation aspects when it is in an edible state, possibly to make sure that it is not devoured completely. SCP-XXXX is not to be used as a source for food, although permission is given to subjects to take a single bite of it if it happens to be edible.

Test 26 -

Subjects: D-XXXX-██-1 and D-XXXX-██-1
Procedure: Subjects must pick up SCP-XXXX at the same time and describe in detail what it feels like.
Results: Upon being picked up, the subjects remained silent and when asked to describe it as ordered previously D-XXXX-00-2 responded that it keeps changing, stating that among the changes there were short periods where they felt pain, it getting heavier, or the feel of SCP-XXXX changing before changing seconds after. After only a minute of holding onto the object, sounds began to emit from the ball, changing from loud ringing to screeches or screams of an unidentifiable source causing both subjects to drop it and cover their ears. Upon impacting the floor several overlapping sounds, ranging from the shattering of glass to the sound of explosions and screams sounded throughout the testing chamber before resetting back to its default state. Both test subjects reported experiencing pounding headaches and nausea following weeks after the initial experiment and have so far shown no signs of recovery.
Analysis: The usage of two or more subjects to test SCP-XXXX at the same time following this incident is prohibited and any request to conduct such a test should be turned down immediately.

Test 30 -

Subject: Dr. Calver
Procedure: Subject, armed with a kitchen knife and rubber gloves, is required to chop SCP-XXXX in half.
Results: Upon being cut in half the object began to regenerate itself, with the second half disappearing as it reformed. More tests were performed and it has been deduced that the smallest half is always the one that disintegrates.
Analysis: SCP-XXXX cannot be duplicated via cutting in half as it will only regenerate after the damage is done.
