Item #: SCP-4062

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Must be kept in a padded wooden box marked FRAGILE. Any illegal attempt to take SCP-4062 out of it's container are to be recorded and sent to the on site overseer for processing, and the the person who opened SCP-4062's container sent to the nearest hospital's psychiatric ward for testing.

If any Class-D personnel that have been ordered to commence testing on SCP-4062 begin to feel SCP-4062's initial effects, SCP-4062 is to be put back into it's case and brought back to the storage room it came from. If the Class-D personnel falls unconscious during testing, do not allow the subject to have any contact with a reflective object, and allow the subject to have something to distract them from looking at their body in any way.

Description: SCP-4062 is a small square handheld mirror, 10cm wide and 14cm long. It's edges and handle are made of plastic, and are pink in color. The handle is flexible but may snap if bent to far. When looked into, SCP-4062 at first shows the subjects real-life appearance, unless the subject has already once seen into his/her reflection using SCP-4062. The subject will begin to see themselves morph into what is thought to be what they truly think of themselves. How we know this is the subjects behavior compared to the description of one they see inside SCP-4062.

If the subject is depressed, they may see themselves as an insect, or as an ugly humanoid monster. If the subject is proud or has a past of treating themselves over other people, then they may see themselves as royalty, a king or a queen, or simply covered in what they most desire. Most subjects have been recorded to see themselves turn into fictitious monsters, such as the Minotaur, or simply as an animal. Animals including pigs, cows, sheep, and on rare occasions fictional animals, but none seem to portray themselves as an animal such as the lion or wolf, however.

Most subjects who are exposed to SCP-4062 for long periods of time (half an hour or more) begin to feel dread or remorse fall and unconscious, only ever seeing themselves as that which they saw when looking into SCP-4062's reflective surface permanently. They then seem to call what they see in a normal mirror "a lie" and only ever want to look into SCP-4062 again, unless distracted by something that they could use to look at, such as a painting or writing. If this happens to any subject, they are to be given an item classification (SCP-4062-X) and brought back to their room or ward.

Discovery:
SCP-4062 was discovered on ██/██/██ in [REDACTED] Montana. It was found by a teenage girl who screamed when she looked into SCP-4062's reflective surface while shopping in a beauty shop in the local mall. The mirror was sent through authorities to [REDACTED] to discover what SCP-4062 initially was. When the effects of SCP-4062 were discovered, containment procedures were set in place to keep others from becoming manifestations of SCP-4062-X.
