I also made an ideas critique post, but I felt I had enough for a sandbox. Let me know what y'all think!
Object Class: Keter
Special containment procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 200m x 50m x 50m stainless-steel containment cell filled with water kept at approximately 0ºC to 3ºC and 3.5% salinity. The steel must be no less than 150mm in thickness, and must be welded shut with no gaps. There must be a hatch in the top for feeding SCP-XXXX; this hatch must also be welded shut with no gaps. The primary containment unit must also be in an airtight room no smaller than 250m x 250m x 250m, and no larger than 500m x 500m x 500m. All modes of egress must be sealed with no gaps, as SCP-XXXX had been known to escape through tiny flaws in materials. Once the secondary chamber is sealed, it must be drained of all air (NOTE: SCP-XXXX’s primary containment unit must be welded shut BEFORE draining the air).
SCP-XXXX is to be fed once a day via a remote feeding apparatus a meal of 200 pounds of raw animal flesh (it has expressed a preference for marine life, but will eat anything that was once or is currently living). Food is to be brought in by D-class personnel, then left next to the primary containment unit. After personnel have been evacuated, the secondary containment unit is to be sealed and the primary containment unit opened. Food will then be deposited in SCP-XXXX’s primary containment unit via a remote crane arm, and the primary containment unit sealed again. All equipment used to feed SCP-XXXX and seal its primary containment unit must be automated and fully contained within its secondary containment unit. All monitor feeds must export their data wirelessly to ensure that SCP-XXXX has no means of egress.
The water in SCP-XXXX’s chamber must be replaced once every two (2) weeks. Before this, SCP-XXXX should be fed a meal infused with 800mg of Diazepam and temporarily removed from its primary chamber. It must then be bound in a set of restraints designed for its specific shape, size, and natural slipperiness in the event that SCP-XXXX wakes up from sedation and attempts to escape containment. Under NO circumstances is SCP-XXXX to be contacted by anyone but D-class personnel during feeding or routine cleaning; if SCP-XXXX is to be contacted for research purposes, it must be spoken to through the built-in microphone and speakers in its containment cell.
SCP-XXXX must be contained in a climate-controlled facility in a remote desert or Arctic region with as few personnel as necessary. No other SCPs are to be contained at the facility, and it is to be a minimum of 500 meters underground with blast doors every 50 meters along the elevator shaft. These must be rigged to be welded shut without human intervention in the event of a serious containment breach. Only personnel with level 3 clearance or higher are to know the specific facility location, and any researchers must operate communication devices remotely. SCP-XXXX may only be documented while it is under sedation during the cleaning of its tank, and only D-class personnel are permitted in its primary or secondary containment cell.
Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES is SCP-XXXX to be contained within 50 kilometers of SCP-682.
Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be an adult specimen of a cephalopod in the genus Magnapinna. SCP-XXXX is blind, but has reported that it can sense nearby minds. It must sense objects via its tentacles, which are far different from other observed specimens of Magnapinna. Its tentacles are upwards of 75m in length, and are far thicker and more well-muscled than observed members of its genus. These tentacles are also fully prehensile, and its suckers have barbs at their center that are capable of injecting a startling (and as yet unmeasured) amount of venom. In addition, SCP-XXXX is far larger than any recorded specimen of any species of Magnapinna, with its body being around 10m in diameter at its thickest (excluding its fins, which extend an additional 10m off SCP-XXXX’s body), and 25m in length. It bears no morphological resemblance to any known species of Magnapinna.
SCP-XXXX exhibits a number of anomalous properties, the most noteworthy being the potent neurotoxic venom it injects through the aforementioned barbs in its suckers. It renders a victim without motor control, and allows SCP-XXXX to control the subject’s functions (including speech) until the venom kills the victim via brain death in 30-60 minutes, depending on body mass and the amount injected. Any creature so controlled becomes an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX only seems capable of controlling one such instance at a time. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are incredibly hardy, and will fight until their bodies are completely destroyed if SCP-XXXX bids them to attack. They will ignore even head wounds and should be viewed as a deadly threat.
Any conversations with SCP-XXXX require it to have an active instance of SCP-XXXX-1 to speak through. This is the only way of communicating with SCP-XXXX, and as such, communicaiton is to be kept to a minimum. SCP-XXXX is to be provided one D-class personnel, ideally one who has worked with SCP-689 or a similar SCP that will necessitate personnel termination. Research on SCP-XXXX will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, with priority given to research into its connection with SCP-682 or the properties of its venom. (Research is also being considered into using SCP-294 to obtain its venom, though this may give SCP-XXXX a means of egress. Further research is needed on the mechanism by which SCP-294 obtains liquids before this test is conducted.)
SCP-XXXX can survive in both water and air, though the mechanism for its breathing air has not yet been determined. It cannot survive in a vacuum and will return to the nearest source of water or air if it finds itself deprived of oxygen. It prefers cold temperatures, similar to those found in the depths of the ocean, but can survive in temperatures up to 30ºC. SCP-XXXX has also displayed the ability to levitate when in air, appearing much as it would if it were in water. Its tentacles are capable of rending most metals, as its barbs have been shown to cut through most materials other than hardened steel (experimentation in the vein is not to be continued under any circumstances, as it allows SCP-XXXX to learn information that may aid it in the event of a containment breach), and its tentacles can exert force up to 3000N. It can also instantaneously teleport over distances up to 500m, and has been shown to be able to teleport through gaps measurable only in nanometers.
To date, SCP-XXXX has killed an estimated [REDACTED] Doctors of the foundation, and an estimated [REDACTED] D-class personnel. SCP-XXXX has expressed enmity for humanity during contact, though it seems eager to inform the Foundation of its intentions should it successfully breach containment. It has had prior contact with SCP-682, and it seems to consider a point of pride that SCP-682 did not attempt to exterminate it. Further research is necessary to determine whether this has to do with the neurotoxin SCP-XXXX produces; SCP-682 has declined to comment on the nature of its relationship with SCP-XXXX, but they have a telepathic link that allows them to communicate freely if they are within 50km of one another.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered via ROV at an oil drilling site monitored by the Foundation for evidence of underwater anomalies (note: the camera in this footage was stationary). A collection team was sent to the site, composed of Agent [REDACTED], Agent [REDACTED] (KIA), Agent [REDACTED] (KIA), Personnel D-5034 (KIA), Personnel D-5000 (KIA), Personnel D-4980 (KIA), Personnel D-5237 (KIA), and Personnel D-5311 (KIA).
