Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained within a Large Humanoid Containment Cell within Site-XX.
Monthly requests from SCP-XXXX to leave containment for the purposes of "reporting back to HQ" are to be verbally denied by research staff.
If, during testing, SCP-XXXX prescribes SCP-XXXX-B to any D-Class personnel during its "diagnostic procedures", then site staff are to transfer said D-Class permanently to Site-XX for SCP-XXXX-B side effect monitoring.
SCP-XXXX is not to be tested with D-Class Personnel afflicted with Neurological conditions. (See Addendum-XXXX.3)
Description: SCP-XXXX is a sentient humanoid entity, roughly 1.7 meters in height, which bears the appearance of a French third republic radiographer. The uniform that gives SCP-XXXX its appearance is an unknown biological compound that has naturally grown from a central point just below occipital bone. SCP-XXXX speaks in a dialect of French, that coincides with an mixture of regional dialects seen between 1920-1975.
SCP-XXXX has shown enthusiasm with cooperating with research staff, constantly referring to personnel as “colleagues”, despite being clarified to the contrary. To this end, SCP-XXXX will periodically inquire with research staff regarding "when the next troop checks are due? ". SCP-XXXX will reply to inquiries about the nature of these checks by stating “fine, when are the next general diagnostic procedures due?” in an irritated manner, beginning to mumble to itself when the inquiring staff member leaves its containment cell.
The “general diagnostic procedures” performed by SCP-XXXX consist of doing a routine physical check-up of a human Subject. After the routine check-up is complete, SCP-XXXX will insist that the subject undergo a “Tube Exam” via the use of SCP-XXXX-A.
SCP-XXXX-A is a mobile x-ray unit of unknown make and origin, though its resemblance fits the aesthetic of a WW1-Era military automobile. However, the automobile itself seems to be electrically powered, despite lack of any obvious fuel source.
Most Subjects that undergo a scan by SCP-XXXX-A will be given a non-anomalous X-Ray sheet. However, if a subject suffers from a psychiatric or neurological condition, the X-Ray sheet will show a brightly coloured aura, of varying colour, within area of the subject’s skull.
SCP-XXXX will claim that the presence of said aura is evidence of “shellshock”, regardless of if the disorder is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or not. In cases where subjects are diagnosed with a psychiatric or neurological condition by SCP-XXXX-A, SCP-XXXX will prescribe the subject with a course of SCP-XXXX-B.
SCP-XXXX-B is a small pill box of what seem to be standard radium tablets. SCP-XXXX instructs the subject that the pills are to be taken daily for one month. Once the first pill has been ingested by a subject, the subject loses all specific memory of SCP-XXXX, only being able to recall that SCP-XXXX-B was “a prescription from my doctor”. If subject completes a course of SCP-XXXX-B, the disorder they suffered from has been found to be cured 100% of the time.
However, completing a course of SCP-XXXX-B will cause the subject to develop cancerous tumours in random areas of the body several weeks after the course's completion. These tumours can vary between severity. Some subjects have developed tumours that were easy to operate on and treatable with chemotherapy, whilst other subjects developed tumours that are terminally severe.
The level of severity seems to depend on the severity of the psychiatric / neurological condition severity and amount of time the subject has suffered with the psychiatric / neurological condition. (See Addendum-XXXX.3).
Addendum-XXXX.1: Discovery
SCP-XXXX was found in the basement of an abandoned house on the outskirts of Verdun. An investigation into an abnormal number of citizens in the area developing cancer, despite an apparent lack of carcinogenic causes in the environment is what led to the discovery of SCP-XXXX.
Once located by investigators, SCP-XXXX was more than happy to explain his involvement in “random check-ups” he had performed on several citizens who had “made more of a fuss than a Rosbif without a cup of tea” over both his presence and the procedure.
Once details on both SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B had been made clear to investigators, SCP-XXXX was taken into custody with no resistance.
Addendum-XXXX.2: Experiment logs:
Test A – 24/01/2015
Subject: D-30212, Female, 32 years of age
Psychiatric Condition: Depression (Diagnosed age 31)
Results: 5 weeks after subject had finished course of SCP-XXXX-B, subject was found to have several benign lacrimal gland tumours.
Surgery to remove the tumours were successful, but subject lost all ability to see in their right eye due to complications. Biopsy confirmed that the tumours were not anomalous in any way other than their unlikely development within the subject.
Post-treatment interviews with Dr Jacob Daniels, a psychologist on loan from Site XY have confirmed that subject is no longer suffering from depression.
Psychologist’s notes: The subject being cured of a long term psychological illness, at the expense of relatively simple surgery, is astounding. However, several civilian cases, researched during initial recovery, suggest the potential for more severe tumours being produced by the side effects of SCP-XXXX-B. Further testing is advised to confirm said cases.
NOTE: Doctor Daniels has requested transfer to Site-XX permanently to direct testing of SCP XXXX after conducting initial psychological evaluation of test subject A, transfer granted by site director.
Test B – 10/02/2015
Subject: D-30451, Male, 27 years of age,
Psychiatric Condition: Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D), (12 distinct personalities) (Diagnosed age 22)
Results: Subject was initially compliant to SCP-XXXX’s requests during the procedure. However, after a personality shift, subject became uncooperative, causing SCP-XXXX to restrain the subject to forcibly be put inside SCP-XXXX-A. After the procedure was completed, SCP-XXXX gave his usual instructions for SCP-XXXX-B to site personnel who came to retrieve the subject, stating “this one isn’t well enough to take the prescription on his own, look after him okay?” .
After the course of SCP-XXXX-B had been completed, subject showed no signs of their prior disorder. 3 weeks after completion of the course of SCP-XXXX-B, subject died due to multiple, seemingly instantaneous, brain clots caused by 12 tumours scattered randomly throughout the subject’s brain structure.
Project Director Notes: This test has yielded valuable information on the forming of the tumours themselves, as scans just 1 day prior to death showed no signs of tumour growth. This rules out any chance of preventative measures to decrease severity of said tumour growth.
In addition, due to several studies linking D.I.D to neurological conditions in the brain, I suggest a test to see if SCP-XXXX can diagnose said conditions, as it would make for easier testing compared to mentally unstable subjects.
Test C – 25/02/2015
Subject: D-30451, Male, 32 years of age
Neurological Condition: Huntington’s Disease (Diagnosed Age 31)
Results: Subject was positively diagnosed with “shellshock” by SCP-XXXX after the procedure in SCP-XXXX-A, however it was stated that it had never encountered such an odd case, when inquired about this by site staff, SCP-XXXX said it required “more information” on the condition to clarify exactly what it meant by the comment as it was “unsure what makes this case special” it did not require any more subjects of this nature, as it wasn't his "area of expertise" (See Addendum-XXXX.3).
Immediately after completing the course of SCP-XXXX-B, the Subject was scanned for signs of brain degradation caused by Huntington’s disease, to be compared to scans prior to exposure to SCP-XXXX-B.All previous brain damage seemed to have been repaired. 2 weeks later a slight melanoma was found on the skin near the MCP joint of the subject’s right thumb. Surgery was performed to remove the melanoma and no other signs of cancer were found in the subject.
Project Director Notes: Not only does it seem that SCP-XXXX can detect neurological conditions, but it also seems that it is highly interested in these types of conditions. I propose we strive to continue this line of testing for the foreseeable future.
Test D – 11/03/2015
Subject: D-31423, Female, 39 years of age
Neurological condition: Huntington’s Disease (Diagnosed Age 36)
Results: Brain damage due to Huntington’s Disease is completely reversed just as in Test C. SCP-XXXX once again showed further interest in studying this "new type of disease" further, requesting further subjects suffering from said conditions disinterest in this type of study, stating clearly "I better not get a court martial if one of these soldiers snuff it, I've never worked on anything like this". (See Addendum-XXXX.3)
After 4 weeks subject develops several melanomas on the skin around several finger joints on both hands. In addition, a tumour developed located within the area of the subject’s brain that, before treatment, had been the origin point of brain degradation due to Huntington’s. Melanomas and tumours were removed with relative ease.
Project Director Notes: Dammit… this wasn’t the result we were looking for. Consistency between subjects with the same condition did not exhibit similar tumour development. I propose a test to see if age is a contributing factor to tumour severity and development.
It may require some time to find a D-Class subject suffering from identical conditions.
Note: After investigation, it was discovered that assistant research staff aiding with testing of SCP-XXXX had requested for discontinuation of testing utilising subjects with Neurological conditions. This was due to the noted reluctance of SCP-XXXX to diagnose and treat these types of subjects. This severely reduced the weekly test rate. Project Director Dr Daniels denied the staff requests and neglected to record the concerns.
Tests E-O 18/03/2015 - 09/06/2015
Regardless of staff disapproval, several more tests were performed on D-Class Personnel with varying age and stage of Huntington's Disease. Once 4 tests resulted in the full recovery of test-subjects, Project Director Dr Daniels informed staff of one final "confirmation test". Daniels claimed that said test would confirm the correlation between tumour growth and condition severity.
Test P – 16/06/2015
Subject: D-35623 Elizabeth Daniels, 29 years of age, Female (See Addendum-XXXX.3)
Neurological Condition: Huntington’s Disease (Diagnosed Age 25)
Results: After completion of the course of SCP-XXXX-B, subject’s brain damage due to Huntington’s disease was reversed completely.
However, approximately 8 weeks after completion of the course of SCP-XXXX-B, the subject suffered chronic seizures whilst undergoing a weekly interview by Dr Daniels (a newly introduced procedure for Test P). The subject died minutes later.
After forcibly prying Dr Daniels off the subject’s body, it was taken to the site morgue for autopsy. Dr Daniels was visibly distressed for several hours after the incident.
Project Director Notes: [DATA EXPUNGED].
Addendum-XXXX.3: Staff Change:
Dear Site-XX staff,
As you are all aware, once news of subject-P's death reached SCP-XXXX, it immediately entered a state of agitation due to "fearing court martial", refusing any test subjects for 3 months after the incident, grossly delaying research into SCP-XXXX-B's properties.Investigation into this incident shows that, throughout testing, Dr Daniels ignored several warnings from his staff that SCP-XXXX was becoming disinterested with subjects with neurological conditions, considerably slowing down successful tests.
After further investigation, it was discovered Dr Daniels was found in breach of foundation protocol by tampering with Site-XX D-Class personnel records, along with hindering testing of SCP-XXXX, all for his own personal gain. Dr Daniels has subsequently been demoted to research assistant, along with being put on mandatory mental-health leave for 3 months. I will be taking over all testing with SCP-XXXX personally from this period onward.
Let this be a lesson to all staff that the purposes of research on SCP items is to better understand why these items should be contained, along with how to do so.
Our goal at the foundation is to Secure, Contain, Protect and not to Obtain, Research, Utilise.
-Signed Dr Gavin Young, Site-XX Director
Note: A suggestion has been made by the new project director to recommence testing by looking into SCP-XXXX-B's effects on subjects with multiple psychological conditions. A request to utilise Research Assistant Daniels (who recently began to suffer from both depression and PTSD) is currently pending approval.
