Special Containment Procedure: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in an 90x90x90 meter room with acoustic panels lining the entire perimeter of the walls. The walls should be at least 1 meter in width. SCP-XXXX is to be placed on a small platform supported by a steel column and cables on each side attached to the walls and ceiling. It should be placed at the exact center of the room (45 meters high, 45 meters from each wall). There should be an observation room to the right with a glass panel between the two rooms. This room is to ensure that SCP-XXXX can be audibly and visibly observed with no obstruction in sound. There should be holes arranged in a grid-like pattern along the glass to allow sound to be easily heard from within the observation room. Several sound recording instruments should be accessible in the observation room.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a set of two entities. The first, SCP-XXXX-1, appears to be an old phonograph record player that resembles other phonographs made and used in the 1950’s, although it does not seem to match any specific models that we can identify. The only difference is that SCP-XXXX-1 has a set of 3 unlabeled knobs and a switch. Each knob has a black line that, when facing up at 0 degrees, is assumed to be the normal state of the knob. Each knob can be turned 340 degrees in either direction, aside from the volume knob which can only be turned clockwise 340 degrees, and can only go 0 degrees counter-clockwise.. Upon testing, the first knob effects volume, which is raised when turned clockwise, and lowered when turned counter-clockwise. The second knob effects speed. When turned clockwise, the record played faster. When turned counter-clockwise, the record plays slower. Note that speed does not affect the pitch. The third knob effects pitch. When turned clockwise, the pitch is raised. When turned counter-clockwise, the pitch is lowered. When the switch is in the upward position, SCP-XXXX-2 spins clockwise, as a regular record does, hinting that it is the ‘forward position’. When in the downward position, SCP-XXXX-2 spins counter-clockwise, and is dubbed ‘backwards position’.
The second, SCP-XXXX-2, appears to be a simple black vinyl record.
The vinyl record can be played by placing it in the phonograph machine, placing the needle on the record, and rotating the crank on the side until it stops. When you release the handle, the record will play a series of sounds that do not appear to be harmonious or related in any way. They also do not follow a common beat. The sounds include beeps, hums, whistles, whirs, taps, and scrapes. Played at its regular speed, the record will last exactly 3 minutes and 21 seconds, and nothing anomalous appears to take place.
However, when the phonographs switch and knobs are tampered with and sped up, slowed down, played backwards, played in higher or lower pitches, or in any other sequence, anomalous activity begins to take place. When played backwards, it has that same effect on its surroundings (surroundings being all space within range of capability of hearing the the sound emitted from SCP-XXXX). Time will seemingly move backwards within the spherical space for the duration of the record. If slowed down or sped up, time in the area is hence slowed down or sped at the same rate as the record is sped up. When pitch is raised or lowered, the gravity in the area is raised or lowered accordingly. Note that multiple settings can be tampered at the same time, causing the same effects to occur simultaneously. Also note that the fatter you turn a knob, the more extreme the effects are. The volume knob has no anomalous properties other than increasing the range that SCP-XXXX can be heard from, thus increasing the range that the other anomalous properties take place. The volume knob can only be turned clockwise to 340 degrees, and then counter-clockwise to return to 0 degrees. It cannot turn any farther than 0 degrees counter-clockwise.
The two SCPs are only anomalous when together. When any different vinyl record is placed and played in SCP-XXXX-1, with any of the settings toggled, it only plays the music how one would expect; if set on high pitch, it plays it high pitched. This goes for all settings. However, no anomalous affects will take place. If SCP-XXXX-2 is played in a different phonograph, and the settings are tampered with, it will play the same sounds as it does in SCP-XXXX-1, but no anomalous phenomena will take place. Also note: when the sound is recorded in its normal playing speed and pitch, and the sounds are toggled by a computer, no anomalous effects appear to take place. If it is recorded in a toggled state, and then played from the recording device, no anomalous affects will take place.
Addendum 1: Due to incident XXXX, do not turn the pitch knob clockwise any farther than 40 degrees if volume is any higher than 20 degrees. This can cause extreme structural tension in the building, and cause stress on all personnel within listening range.
Incident XXXX: On █/██/███, SCP-XXXX-1’s pitch knob was turned to 55 degrees clockwise with a volume of 30 degrees. (27 degrees is all that is needed for the sound to reach the structure that makes up the containment cell of SCP-XXXX). The gravity increased in the range by a factor of 1.16, causing structure to unsettle, and personnel in the area to begin to feel uneasy.
