Special Containment Procedures: Kamas, Utah is to be contained within a 2 km by 2 km area with a reinforced perimeter fence. Occupied buildings are monitored by a hidden surveillance system installed throughout the town.

No persons residing in Kamas are allowed to leave the town. Any services outside and within the boundaries of the containment site have been removed, including phone and internet services. The perimeter around Kamas is to be permanently closed except for authorized expeditions and testing. The roads leading into Kamas have been permanently closed using a cover story of fatal amounts of gamma radiation originating from the town.

Hazmat suits are to be provided to any site personnel during expeditions. Personnel must submit themselves to specialized decontamination when moving in or out of the containment area at the north, south, west and eastern access points.

In the event of an escape made by a resident of the containment site, they are to be neutralized before they can reach another population center.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to an immobile entity that originated beneath the town of Kamas Utah. SCP-XXXX is 2.2 Km tall and 3.7 Km around. SCP-XXXX appears as a dark-red colored and complex root system. The roots range in size from 0.5 cm in diameter up to 3 m in diameter. SCP-XXXX exposes its longer roots when attempting to infect a new victim, and lures in victims through concentrated vibrations that resonate throughout buildings in the town. The victims of SCP-XXXX are referred to as SCP-XXXX-1.

When SCP-XXXX-1 reaches the location of vibrations emanated by SCP-XXXX, it will extend a small tendril through the foundation of the building and release a red cloud of spores along with an unknown amnestic which erases the encounter with SCP-XXXX from SCP-XXXX-1's memory.¹ The spores released from SCP-XXXX will attach themselves to a victim's clothing and hair because the spores cannot survive while airborne. After long-term exposure to the spores,² they will embed themselves into the skin of SCP-XXXX-1 instances eventually making their way into the bloodstreams of SCP-XXXX-1 instances. This makes disinfection impossible without terminating the host due to extreme amounts blood extraction required to evacuate all of the infection. The spores will rapidly multiply once they enter the bloodstream of SCP-XXXX-1 instances. The spores will cause various symptoms while infecting SCP-XXXX-1 instances. Symptoms include tiredness, nausea, headaches, irritated eyes, large rashes, and blood clotting. The spores from SCP-XXXX are entirely immune to any known anti-fungal medication.

If an infected victim leaves the town's vicinity³ the spores will start to spread rapidly and engulf the victim's body which lasts ~20 minutes. The victim's body will █████ ██████ and █████████ before expiring. The victim's brain is then taken over by the spores which causes the spore-covered corpse to walk farther away from the initial infection site. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 tend to travel toward nearby towns with small populations. The spores only become active at the distance they do so that SCP-XXXX does not have to compete for available space with its offspring.

When the animate corpse finds a location suitable for reproduction, it will cease any further movements and will be consumed by the spores. Over the course of ~2 weeks, the spores will completely absorb the corpse and then conglomerate into a new instance of SCP-XXXX.⁴ SCP-XXXX-A burrowed into the ground for about 3 kilometers and stopped. When it reached this point, SCP-XXXX-A grew rapidly to the size of the original SCP-XXXX over the course of a week. This is when the entire infection process restarts where new instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are created.⁵

Addendum XXXX-A: Cases of SCP-XXXX Instances

Instance 01: SCP-XXXX
SCP-XXXX during initial discovery was only ~1 month old. When the anomaly was initially being studied and quarantined, a multitude of the residents of Kamas attempted to escape which lead to the need for an MTF unit⁶ to be on border patrol duty for the containment site of Kamas while the perimeter fence was being constructed around the town. SCP-XXXX is kept alive for further study of the specimen. The residents of Kamas are also kept alive for testing of a potential cure that does not terminate the host.

Instance 02: SCP-XXXX-A
SCP-XXXX-A was the first instance of SCP-XXXX that was observed and studied before its following termination. See the description for the order of events pertaining to the infection, termination, and transport process of an SCP-XXXX-1 instance. SCP-XXXX-A was terminated after initial study and testing.

Instance 03: SCP-XXXX-B
SCP-XXXX-B was discovered after SCP-XXXX and was residing in the town of ███████, Idaho. SCP-XXXX-B during initial discovery was only ~2 days old. MTF Psi-7 was sent to neutralize the site. SCP-XXXX-B was observed to be entirely identical to SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX-B was then terminated after initial study. Level B amnestics were distributed to the population of ███████.

Instance 04: SCP-XXXX-C
SCP-XXXX-C was discovered in the town of ████, Utah. SCP-XXXX-C during initial discovery was only ~3 days old. SCP-XXXX-C was observed to be entirely identical to SCP-XXXX. The order for SCP-XXXX-C to be terminated was sent. SCP-XXXX-C was terminated after initial study. Level B amnestics were distributed to the population of ████

Instance 05: SCP-XXXX-D
SCP-XXXX-D was found while it was decomposing an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 outside the border of ████████, Utah. SCP-XXXX-D was terminated ██ seconds after it had formed. Level B amnestics were distributed to the population of ████████.

Exploration Video Log Transcript

Exploration Team: MTF Psi-7

Subject: SCP-XXXX-B

Team Members: Mason, Harvey, Carson, Randy (Otherwise known as "Rango"), and Ulysses

[BEGIN LOG]

The team's cams show a typical interior of a grocery store.

Carson: Command said it looks like a red-colored root system, and that it might try to infect us even though it hasn't planted yet, so be on your guard.

Mason: We know Carson, we all got the same mission briefing.

Carson: I know that, I just want us all to do a good job.

Randy: Man, I am getting so sweaty in this suit.

Ulysses: Zip it scrawny! We all have to wear these things.

15 minutes later, the team advances into a isle labeled, "candy," "snacks," and "cereal."

Randy: There's nothing here, can we just get on to the next building?

Tapping can be heard ~5 meters ahead of the ream.

Carson: I have audial confirmation of dash B!

Mason: We know!

Carson: Move forward with caution.

A long red tendril can be seen thrusting out from behind the food rack in front of the team. The tendril then releases a large red cloud of spores and a clear liquid toward the team.

Ulysses: Oh [REDACTED]

Carson: I'll get a hold of it! Randy and Harvey pull on the base of the extension while Mason covers us! Ulysses, fire with the intention to kill!

The team proceeds with Carson's plan which results in SCP-XXXX-B being forcefully brought out into the open. The team proceeds to fire multiple rounds into SCP-XXXX-B which terminates the target.

Carson: Told you it would work.

Ulysses: As if.

After about 10 seconds of silence, SCP-XXXX-B can be seen moving once more. SCP-XXXX-B then attacks the team with one of its roots. Screaming can be heard from the entire team.

Ulysses: I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Carson: Quick, pin it down again before it-

Carson's mounted camera shows a large red root moving at high speeds toward Carson. Carson is then hit in the chest by SCP-XXXX-B.

Mason: Carson!

Harvey: I think I've got something that'll work.

Harvey proceeds to equip his flamethrower and dispenses its flames onto SCP-XXXX-B. SCP-XXXX-B can be heard letting out a shrill screeching sound as it is burning despite there being no visible orifices that resemble a mouth on SCP-XXXX-B. After about 2 minutes of fighting SCP-XXXX-B, it eventually ceased all life functions due to extreme amounts of burning damage.

Ulysses: Hehe, let's get this thing into the van and in the disposal!

Carson: Groans in pain Yeah, don't worry about me I'm fine guys.

Randy assists Carson in standing up.

Carson: We need to quarantine the building until the spores have cleared and until the damage to the building has been fixed.

Notes
SCP-XXXX-B was the first instance of SCP-XXXX ever requested to be terminated. This expedition shows that instances of SCP-XXXX can be terminated through exposure to extreme amounts of heat. This information is invaluable and can help with further terminations of SCP-XXXX instances.
