Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is currently uncontained. Containment of SCP-XXXX is a Class A priority, as mandated by the O5 Council. Existing Foundation technology has been unsuccessful in differentiating SCP-XXXX from existing personnel. Research is ongoing into methods of screening personnel for the presence of SCP-XXXX.
Plans are being devised to lure SCP-XXXX into fake experiments featuring fictional SCPs. MTF operatives and agents will pose as D-Class personnel in order to attempt capture of SCP-XXXX, or prompt "out of character" communication from the subject. It is hoped that these experiments could also shed light on SCP-XXXX's form of mimicry.
Current Precautionary Measures (SUBJECT TO CHANGE PENDING COUNCIL REVIEW):
Any personnel that suspect the presence of SCP-XXXX are to notify their superiors immediately. Senior staff will advise the correct approach, appropriate to the circumstance. In the absence of senior staff, personnel should treat SCP-XXXX with extreme caution, but attempt to gain any information possible about the subject.Staff with Level 2 Security Clearance and above are to be informed of the existence of SCP-XXXX in order to increase the chances of detecting it.
D-Class personnel are to report any unusual behaviour in other D-Class personnel, consistent with past encounters with SCP-XXXX (particularly during experiments or expeditions). If a Research Lead or Mission Commander suspects the presence of SCP-XXXX, they are authorised to alter the parameters of the current experiment/mission at their discretion, to try and apprehend SCP-XXXX. Failing that, they should attempt to observe the subject's behaviour closely or engage in direct communication with it.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an entity which either perfectly imitates human beings, or "possesses" them through unknown means.1 SCP-XXXX uses this ability to impersonate D-Class personnel within the Foundation. In its reported sightings, SCP-XXXX has taken on many different human guises, with varied appearances, ages, personalities and speech. Although theoretically, given its powers, it could impersonate any human - SCP-XXXX has reportedly stated that it is only interested in (quote) "being a D-Class" (corroborated by its sightings).
SCP-XXXX desires to be exposed, on a personal level, to extremely negative human experiences. These traumas include severe psychological duress, pain and torture, and most of all; death2. According to the few cases where SCP-XXXX has communicated "out of character", it derives pleasure or satisfaction in inflicting these experiences upon itself3.
To date it has been confirmed that SCP-XXXX has participated in over ███ Foundation experiments, expeditions and incidents. Most of these have involved exposure in some way to other SCPs. This has occurred at different Foundation Sites and locations worldwide, with SCP-XXXX posing as D-Class personnel in each instance. The actual number of cases is estimated to be much larger, as SCP-XXXX has hinted it has been embedded within the Foundation for a long period of time.
All these cases have led to the "death" of SCP-XXXX, either from the occupational hazards of being D-Class personnel, or via self-termination. However, the term "death" with SCP-XXXX is relative. Certainly its body dies, but its consciousness appears to live on, as it will eventually reappear, inhabiting a new body, with memories intact. SCP-XXXX claims to experience the same emotions and sensations as humans when imitating them. It relishes the experience of dying, especially in -quote- "new and interesting ways". It is unknown if SCP-XXXX has any form when not manifesting as/possessing a human body, or what exactly happens to it after "death"4.
It is unclear whether SCP-XXXX is "role-playing" its behaviour as D-Class, or whether it is possessing real people and "piggybacking" on their mind - allowing the host to make the decisions. In reported incidents regarding SCP-XXXX it has acted in a manner consistent with any normal D-Class personnel - expressing intelligence (or lack thereof), personality, fear, obedience/disobedience, etc.
The existence of SCP-XXXX was discovered after a number of cases where it "broke character"; either by speaking to other D-Class personnel or by displaying unusual behaviour. These events also gave some insight into SCP-XXXX's motivations and history.5
Due to the difficulty of detecting SCP-XXXX, it is unknown for how long it has been infiltrating the Foundation. Based on communications with SCP-XXXX and its modus operandi, it is speculated that its interest in the Foundation is due to easy exposure to a large variety of hostile SCPs, and the institutional nature of the organisation.
Investigations into SCP-XXXX's previous Foundation incursions and motives are ongoing.
Note from Doctor ███: I'm concerned that SCP-XXXX's activities may reach beyond just "going along for the ride" as a D-Class. Wouldn't an entity like this have a vested interest in sabotaging or manipulating missions in order to place itself in greater danger? We don't know enough about SCP-XXXX's true motivations. What is it really up to?
Update ██/██/████: O5 Council has approved the use of a select number of other SCP's for potential detection and containment of SCP-XXXX. Such experiments will be tightly regulated, please see Document ██████ and contact the current Project Lead for details.
