Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept within a standard containment locker. No further containment procedures are necessary.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a small, portable speaker connected by analog wire to a plastic platform resembling a bathroom scale. The side of the speaker has a play button, a six-segment time display, and a set of twenty (20) LED's in a row. The first ten (10) are green, the next five (5) yellow, the last five (5) red.
Pressing the play button on the speaker will set the time display to 1:00. The display will tick down second by second. Simultaneously, the speaker will begin to produce sound. The stream will continue until the timer ticks to 0:00, at which point the play button can be pressed again to repeat the process.
The sound produced will change depending on the state of the platform; different solid objects placed on the platform will have an effect, as will gases surrounding the platform. Sounds seem to be recreations of sounds commonly associated with input objects (see experiment log for details). Output only accounts for the instant the play button is pressed; removing an object partway through playback will not change the sound.
The LED series appears to indicate the volume level of the sound (lighting up sequentially from left to right), but cannot be controlled manually. Instead, the volume level automatically adjusts depending on the output: the volume will always start at 1 notch after pressing play, then increase if the signal is especially quiet. The volume has only been observed increasing beyond 2 notches on one occasion (see Experiment XXXX-7).
Addendum: Dr. Vita Test Log
Experiment XXXX-1 - Date 7/20/2019
Input: None
Input Notes: Control test. No solid objects were placed on the platform, but air was allowed to flow freely.
Output: [AUDIO STREAM]
Max Volume: 2 notches (1 second fade)
Output Description: Static. The noise can be heard fading in over the course of the first second of playback, as the volume adjusts itself.
Note: This static is consistently present when air is surrounding the platform.

Experiment XXXX-2 - Date 7/20/2019
Input: 1kg iron
Input Notes: An iron bar one (1) kilogram in mass was placed on the platform.
Output: [AUDIO STREAM]
Max Volume: 1 notch (no fade)
Output Description: Scattered metallic banging noises. The same static from the control is heard in the background, but stays quiet due to the lack of necessity for an automatic volume change.
Note: The "decision" to output sounds produced by hitting the bar (as opposed to any other action) already indicates some level of subjectivity in the output. How this "decision-making" works is a mystery; note that there is no proof of SCP-XXXX's sentience.

Experiment XXXX-3 - Date 7/20/2019
Input: Book
Input Notes: An old paperback Foundation security team handbook was placed on the platform.
Output: [AUDIO STREAM]
Max Volume: 1 notch (no fade)
Output Description: Scattered page flipping noises. Background static is present just as in Experiment XXXX-2.
Note: Here we see the subjective output in practice. The sound of page flipping here instead of hitting the book indicates that SCP-XXXX somehow accounts for human usage and ideas of objects instead of just the physicality of the objects themselves. How far can this interpretation of usage be taken?

Experiment XXXX-4 - Date 7/20/2019
Input: CD
Input Notes: A copy of the first disk of "Angelic 2 the Core", a studio album by Corey Feldman, was placed on the platform.
Output: [AUDIO STREAM]
Max Volume: 1 notch (no fade)
Output Description: Scattered clicking and whirring noises (as though inserting and removing a disk from a drive), interspersed with short random clips from the encoded album. Clips of the album are approximately as frequent as the clicks and whirrs. Background static is present just as in Experiment XXXX-2.
Note: The data on the disk was interpreted! But the sound of the album itself seems to be considered alongside the physical actions of inserting and removing the disk in the first place. Interesting…

Experiment XXXX-5 - Date 7/21/2019
Input: Subject C-5137
Input Notes: Class C Subject 5137 stood on the platform.
Output: [AUDIO STREAM]
Max Volume: 1 notch (no fade)
Output Description: Muted thumping noises, interspersed with noisier sounds similar to footsteps on gravel, sand, and soil. Background static is present just as in Experiment XXXX-2.
Note: Not the result I expected. It's possible SCP-XXXX is interpreting C-5137's shoes instead of the subject.

Experiment XXXX-6 - Date 7/21/2019
Input: Subject C-5137 (barefoot)
Input Notes: Class C Subject 5137 stood on the platform without shoes or socks.
Output: [AUDIO STREAM]
Max Volume: 1 notch (no fade)
Output Description: Indistinct clips of a human voice talking and singing. Background static is present just as in Experiment XXXX-2.
Note: This is more in-line with the expected result.

Experiment XXXX-7 - Date 7/25/2019
Input: Ultra-high vacuum
Input Notes: A small chamber was assembled around the platform, allowing the wire to pass through a carefully sealed exit hole. The speaker rested outside the chamber, allowing the output to be heard. Ion pumps were used to create a vacuum within the chamber.
Output: [AUDIO STREAM]
Max Volume: 20 notches (30 second fade)
Output Description: The static heard in previous tests is no longer present. For the first 10 seconds, no sound can be heard at all. For the next 20 seconds, an unidentified droning sound gradually fades in, staying at its peak for the remaining 30 seconds.
Note: Whatever the source of this sound is, it would seem to be caused by something other than stray matter. In the absence of noise, the volume increased, revealing something unidentified. It's possible that SCP-XXXX is detecting ███ ███ ████████ █ █████████ ██████ ██ ███████ █████ ███ ████ █ ████ ████ ██ ████████.
