Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX can be contained in any space bigger than 1m2 any smaller and growth will cease. Whenever a subject is entering the area the must be equipped with a specially made N100 respirator filter. The containment cell must be moist and dimly lit ,the floor of the containment cell must have at least 6 inches of soil as this is the smallest room needed for the roots to grow, after this point any material may be used to keep it from going further.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a parasite that has no determined origins but has been found to occur in the ███████ region of Italy. It infects its host by means of digestion, inhalation or contact of skin. The parasite eats away at the hosts muscle structure until there is nothing left but bones, blood, fat and, skin. The skin of the host darkens as the parasite continues to feast on it.

SCP-XXXX is a parasite that begins life as a form of bacterium that inhabits the soil. SCP-XXXX goes through … stages of mutation, each of which have been documented. SCP-XXXX infects the soil and when the time is right it will always infect the Agaricus Bisporus, the reason why the specimen refuses to infect anything else while in this stage remains unknown. The mutations caused by the infection of SCP-XXXX cause spores to be produced from the mushrooms surface, on average 70,000 spores are produced but few manage to find a new host, these spores make up what is known as SCP-XXXX-1, each spore is no greater than 1 millimetre in circumference allowing infection by inhalation. As SCP-XXXX infects the Agaricus Bisporus, many deaths have been attributed to the unskilled eye of mushroom pickers providing infected mushrooms to restaurants and food markets.1 While germinating instances of SCP-XXXX-1 have been recorded to travel an average of 372 meters from the stem.2 SCP-XXXX is harmless to touch but if inhaled it will cling to the lungs of its host causing breathing difficulty and if ingested can be fatal in as few as 17 hours, there is no known cure for the parasite as they only valid removal method as of now is to cut out the infected area. While this method has allowed The Foundation to examine SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 it has been found that the removal of one's lungs or stomach proves fatal.

A CT-scan of an infected D class male revealed that the spores begin to increase in size until they are about 13 millimetres in diameter, after this they go into a mutation stage where they begin to evolve into SCP-XXXX-2. In some instances, Hosts have had up to 17,000 instances of SCP-XXXX-2 due to the amount of exposer to SCP-XXXX-1
