Photograph of SCP-XXXX inside its original packaging.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept locked in Site-64 Storage, cabinet number E-270 at all times, protected by a simple lock. For ease of access, the object should be placed inside its original packaging, with the lens facing upward. During testing, the object may be removed from its drawer but must be kept in its original packaging or otherwise placed in a similarly dark environment, so as to avoid triggering SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects. A room of dimensions 4x4x5 has been allocated to any testing of SCP-XXXX. The room's walls, floor and ceiling have been painted black to avoid triggering the object's anomalous effects. After prior testing (see Addendum XXXX-1) the use of SCP-XXXX while in the line of sight of personnel or D-Class has been deemed unethical and forbidden. The use of SCP-XXXX has been prohibited entirely.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a wooden 15-tile sliding puzzle, packaged within a simple cardboard box. On its back is a small sticker representing Doctor Wondertainment, a brand of anomalous children's toys. The tiles of the puzzle are clear, yet retain both the appearance and texture of wood rather than glass. When the puzzle is focused upon a landmark view with discernibly different colours or patterns, the image scrambles itself and becomes static. The landmark view the puzzle has adopted disappears from its original place, and will not return until the sliding puzzle has been completed. Only one puzzle can be played at any given time, and the puzzle can only adopt what is directly within the line of sight.

The following test logs were recorded shortly after the retrieval of SCP-XXXX. It was transferred to Site-64 after being deemed relatively harmless.

Test A-27/04/20██

Subject: A detailed 3D model of the Eiffel Tower and the Champ de Mars.
Procedure: The model was placed on a table in the Research Lounge. The object was pointed at the model and focused on it.
Results: Upon focusing, the puzzle subsequently adopted the model and both it and the front part of the table dematerialised, along with a drawer, coffee machine, part of the wall and half a potted plant in the background. Upon completion of the puzzle, the table, model, drawer, coffee machine, wall and plant reappeared. The dirt from the plant also seemed to have relocated back to the pot.
Analysis: The object appears to accept replicas as well as real landmarks as worthy landscapes, but will also capture the surrounding area into its tiles.

Test B (Non-intentional)- 28/04/20██

Subject: A doorway to the Safe Item Storage facility, including the wall and an exposed pipeline.
Procedure: While escorting the object back to its containment cabinet in the Safe Item Storage facility, staff inadvertently pointed the object at the facility entrance.
Results: The wall was taken into the puzzle tiles, leaving an open entrance and several destroyed PVC pipes, which began releasing dangerous gases into the facility. The staff quickly responded and solved the puzzle, restoring the contents of the image to reality. The gas emitted from the pipelines immediately receded, assumed to have returned to the restored pipeline.
Analysis: The object seems to be sentient to some degree, able to discern shapes and deem them to be monuments, even if they are not of ecclesiastical or otherwise significant emotional value. Note: Following this threat, SCP-XXXX is now kept indefinitely in dark conditions and in its original cardboard packaging.

Test C - 30/04/20██

Subject: Subject D-23886
Procedure: SCP-XXXX was pointed at Subject D-23886 in the confines of an allocated testing room, painted with light-absorbing black paint. a small amount of light was shone at subject D-23886 to outline his body against the background.
Results: The exposed appendages and head of Subject D-23886 disappeared completely, along with their jumpsuit and shoes. Areas of their body covered by their clothing, such as the legs and torso, became exposed but were not captured in the tile puzzle. Blood began to escape the subject's body immediately. A junior member of research staff was dispatched to solve the tile puzzle, returning D-23886's head, arms and hands. The blood loss appeared to disappear, possibly back into the body of D-23886.
Analysis: Subject D-23886 appeared to have suffered no physical damage, but was displaying symptoms of onset dementia, namely an unawareness or indifference to surroundings, characteristically senile and uncooperative behaviour.

Addendum XXXX-01: Subject D-23886 was escorted back to his cell, where they were monitored and found drawing on the walls of their cell with their own faeces. Subject D-23886 was forcibly removed from the cell temporarily, and the involved security staff reported a drawing of a man holding a rectangular object, with an arrow pointing at the sun.

The associated Research Staff took this as a depiction of Subject-D23886 using the object to capture the sun, which would immediately result in an XK-Class End-Of-The-World Scenario. The Research Staff reported this concern immediately. The use of SCP-XXXX has been strictly prohibited since this incident.

Addendum XXXX-02: Upon discovering the effects of SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties on humans, the Site-64 Director, along with the associated Research Staff have been severely reprimanded.
