Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a locked 1.5m x 1.5 m x 1.5m storage locker at Site ██ guarded by two (2) armed security officers. Testing of SCP-XXXX is only to be done by those of Level 2 clearance or higher As of Incident XXXX, SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a hermetically sealed vault within a 20m x 20m x 10m containment cell. Absolutely no light on the visible spectrum, any infrared detection equipment, nor equipment with a reflective surface (including standard eyeglasses) are to be allowed anywhere within 60m of SCP-XXXX's containment cell lest it triggers SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects. Any attempt to approach SCP-XXXX's containment cell without prior permission of at least four (4) O5 Council members are to be terminated. Should any instance of SCP-XXXX-1 or -B occur, it is to be treated as a containment breach and Mobile Task Force Eta-10 (See No Evil) are to be deployed on site to recontain the object.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a circular bathroom mirror measuring 90cm in diameter inserted in a lightweight wooden frame. If a subject maintains direct eye contact with SCP-XXXX for a minimum of four (4) seconds, their reflection will no longer mirror their movements and begin to transfigure into an aberration shortly before the subject themselves turns into the perceived aberration, now designated as an SCP-XXXX-1 instance. Whilst varying in appearance and ability, autopsies performed on recovered instances show that they typically appear to have enhanced strength with the tensile strength of their muscle fibers equaling or exceeding 400MPa as well as signs of demyelination resulting in complete anesthesia and leading to lesions forming on the left frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. On 10/18/20██, a containment breach occurred when technicians performed maintenance on the cameras in SCP-XXXX's testing chamber when the mildly reflective lens of the camera took on SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties, becoming an XXXX-B instance, resulting in the technicians' sudden transformation into instances of XXXX-1 and resulted in the deaths of ███ Foundation personnel and the transformation of ██ security personnel. It is unknown if this was just an overlooked anomalous effect of SCP-XXXX or if the effect was spontaneously developed. MTF Eta-10 was deployed to Site ██ shortly after contact was lost and successfully destroyed all -1 and -B instances before detonation of on-site nuclear warheads was deemed necessary. MTF Eta-10 were able to determine that any reflective surface reflecting the surface of SCP-XXXX will take on its anomalous effects. See Incident Log XXXX¹ for a full transcript of the events.

Discovery: The object was recovered from a family home after reports of an apparent multiple homicide-suicide in the small city of [REDACTED], Indiana on//20██. Foundation agents imbedded in local law enforcement were notified and recovery teams were sent. All attending officers, EMT's, and neighbors were given Class C amnestics and a cover story was put in place. See Recovery Incident Log XXXX.1 for further details.

Addendum: Experiments on SCP-XXXX suggest that the transformations to the subjects is dependent on the presence of aggressive behaviors as well as those suffering from mental illnesses like depression and anxiety rather than criminal background, though the transformation usually reflects what the instance did in their past. Tests on truly innocent subjects awaiting approval. (DENIED BY ETHICS COMMITTEE)

Recovery Log XXXX.1 (Level 2 access required)

Interviewed: Agent Mesarosh
Foreword: Interview with Agent Mesarosh regarding the recovery of SCP-XXXX on location in [REDACTED], Indiana
<Begin Log, 1900 hours ██/██/20██>

Dr. ██████: So, Agent, describe exactly what happened as you remember it.

Mesarosh: It started like any other recovery op. We heard of a multiple homicide-suicide up in [REDACTED] where the nature of the incident seemed inherently anomalous so I was ordered to investigate.

█: I see. Please continue.

M: After we quarantined the area, Agent Nelson and I began a forensic investigation to figure out exactly what we were looking at. There were three bodies in the house but you would've thought more with the amount of blood and viscera all over the place. Appeared to be a small family. The father was found with his arm missing and several compound fractures of the skull while the mother's jaw had been ripped off and was disemboweled. The other body, on the other hand, was unlike anything I've seen in my time with the Foundation.

█: Indeed. Describe the entity if you would.

M: Well, according to recovered records it was the son but you could barely even tell it was human. The skin appeared to have been stretched and split from massive internal changes to muscle mass and bone growth. The fingers appeared to have been stripped of all skin up to 3cm of the fingertips and sharpened to make small stabbing implements. It seemed to have killed itself by repeatedly ramming its head into a stud in the wall until its skull finally caved in. One more good hit and the entire house would've collapsed. That's when I noticed Agent Nelson went on to investigate the bathroom and apparently found the object.

█: What happened then?

M: Nelson started freaking out, shouting for help, that something was in the mirror. The bathroom was maybe only about five or six steps away but by the time I looked into the doorway, it was too late. Nelson was already changing, his skin dissolving away as he started spewing what seemed like sewage from every orifice. I didn't hesitate in pulling my sidearm and discharging 3 rounds into Nelson's skull. I still firmly believe that it was that swiftness of action that saved my life, doc. I just wish I could've saved his. (Agent Mesarosh shifts in his seat, staring into the distance for a moment before recomposing himself.) At any rate, I notified Command and MTF Eta-10 were sent in for recovery.

█: Excellent. I will be sure to log all of this for the file. Agent Nelson will be commended for his service to the Foundation and his family will be compensated. Before we conclude our interview, what else did you find at the recovery site?

M: A lot of useless stuff really. Nothing too out of the ordinary for any other young man to have. Oh, there was this journal of sorts, in the son's room. I was going to take a look at it but the task force took it before I could get the chance. I take it that it says something useful about what's going on?

█: That is to be determined. This will conclude our interview, thank you very much Agent Mesarosh. You are dismissed.

Experiment Log XXXX.1 (Level 4 access required)

Experiment Log XXXX.1 - ██/██/20██

Subject: D-10239, 36 year old Caucasian male, on death row for rape and multiple homicide, no apparent psychological abnormalities.
Procedure: D-10239 is instructed to approach SCP-XXXX and stare at their reflection while reporting what they see.
Results: D-10239 complied with orders, walking slowly towards the open locker containing SCP-XXXX. The subject began showing considerable signs of distress before turning into an XXXX-1 instance, their limbs began to elongate causing the bone to split through the skin in several areas, their lips peeling away to show pronounced canines. Blood vessels began to burst all over the body, causing massive bruising and exsanguination through multiple orifices. Due to increased muscular tensile strength, instance breached containment killing ██ Foundation security personnel before successful termination.
Analysis: Subject rapidly transforms upon looking into their reflection taking only seconds. Security team armaments proved ineffective in piercing instance musculature. Awaiting results of autopsy. Movement for incendiary termination method pending. (Denied) Movement to install video cameras for safety of research staff during testing pending. (Approved)
Researcher Notes: Test went as expected. Judging from the agent's field report along with MTF Eta-10's, you definitely don't want to look at this thing. Gonna try to get cameras installed so we don't risk seeing our own reflection. Experiment Log XXXX.2 (Level 4 access required)

Experiment Log XXXX.2 - ██/██/20██

Subject: D-00177, 39 year old Hispanic male, on death row for acting as a smuggler and enforcer for the ███████ Crime Families, known for excessively brutal methods of execution.
Procedure: D-00177 is to be instructed to approach SCP-XXXX and look at his own reflection, describing what they see.
Results: Subject was introduced into SCP-XXXX's containment chamber and instructed to step forward. Subject was reluctant to approach, becoming agitated. After being reminded that they will be terminated if they do not comply, D-00177 approaches SCP-XXXX and looks at their reflection. They describe that their reflection "doesn't look right" and reported that the reflection no longer mirrors their movements. Immediately afterwards severe muscle growth overtook his entire torso until they fully encased their head and arms up to the elbows. Security personnel were able to lure the instance to an adjoining chamber for termination.
Analysis: Transformation occurred at roughly the same amount of time after viewing the object in the previous test. Judging from the massive muscle growth all over the subject's body, security personnel determined that separate containment was necessary before termination via personal incendiary units. Autopsy underway.
Researcher Notes: That was unexpected. I know he worked as muscle for the Cartel but he must've been particularly sadistic to cause that kind of mutation. Next test should determine whether the presence of true guilt has any affect on SCP-XXXX's anomalous nature. -Senior Researcher Neveah

Experiment Log XXXX.3 (Level 4 access required)

Experiment Log XXXX.3 - ██/██/20██

Subject: D-25601, 24 year old Caucasian female, on death row for organizing and carrying out acid attacks in England, Germany, France, and the eastern United States. Subject appeared remorseful of actions and had been diagnosed with moderate-severe depression over her role in the events leading to her incarceration.
Procedure: D-25601 is instructed to approach SCP-XXXX and look at their own reflection, describing what they see.
Results: Subject is introduced to SCP-XXXX's containment chamber and is instructed to look at their reflection and report what they see. Subject complies, walking toward SCP-XXXX. Subject begins hyperventilating and screaming in disbelief, clawing at their hair as though it was all falling out. Seconds later, subject began transformation into XXXX-1 instance as a corrosive substance began to be secreted from its sweat glands. Security personnel terminated the instance with small arms fire, though the instance's blood appeared to be entirely replaced with hydrofluoric acid which caused damage to SCP-XXXX's containment chamber and minor injury to security personnel.
Analysis: Presence of guilt made no change in SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects, nor any change in time elapsed. Presence of hydrofluoric acid in the containment chamber required immediate transfer of SCP-XXXX to Site ██ until repairs are completed.
Researcher Notes: So regardless of how guilty you may be, XXXX judges you guilty anyways. And my exes say I'm harsh. Good thing they recovered this thing before anyone else got a hold of it. If only they would let me look into the journal they recovered at the initial discovery site, it could really provide some insight into exactly how this thing works. Experiment Log XXXX.4 (RESTRICTED ACCESS)

Experiment Log XXXX.4 - ██/██/20██

Subject: D-5557, 19 year old Native American female, taken as a refugee after [REDACTED BY ETHICS COMMITTEE]. Mild infantilism due to brain damage resulting from [DATA EXPUNGED].
Procedure: D-5557 is instructed to approach SCP-XXXX and look at their own reflection, describing what they see.
Results: Subject cheerfully followed orders and approached SCP-XXXX and looked into their own reflection. Several minutes passed without incident, the subject retaining their cheerful demeanor throughout the entire test. After twenty minutes of inactivity, the experiment was concluded.
Analysis: Subject has a history of kind-heartedness and innocence displayed by most children, likely caused in part by her prior brain damage upon [REDACTED BY ETHICS COMMITTEE]. Test confirms that SCP-XXXX has no effect on those who can be quantified as "innocent" and truly good natured.

Researcher Notes: By God, I've done it. I've finally done it. The findings from this test is absolutely superb, I'm glad that pushing forward this test ahead of schedule would be a good idea. With this information, we could possibly [REDACTED BY O5 COUNCIL].

Addendum: By order of the O5 Council and the Ethics Committee, Senior Researcher Neveah is awaiting a disciplinary hearing regarding the abduction of █ innocent civilians for use in experiments without prior approval.

Experiment Log XXXX.5 (Level 4 access required)

Experiment Log XXXX.5 - ██/██/20██

Subject: D-12658, 26 year old African American male, and D-85474, 45 year old Caucasian male. D-12658 (henceforth Subject A) was sentenced to death for multiple homicide while D-85474 (henceforth Subject B) was found guilty of torture and rape of several children.
Procedure: Subjects A and B are to stand equidistant from each other and from SCP-XXXX at a 45 degree angle. They are then to look into SCP-XXXX at each other and report what they see.
Results: Both subjects are introduced into SCP-XXXX's containment chamber and were moved into position. Upon looking at each other in SCP-XXXX's reflection, researchers asked Subject A what he saw in the reflection to which he responded that Subject A "wasn't human at all" and was "horribly disfigured with a massive bleeding [EXPLETIVE REDACTED]." Both subjects were recovered from the containment chamber without incident.
Analysis: Testing concludes that viewing the reflection of another person in SCP-XXXX does not cause sudden transformation but it does allow the other person to seemingly perceive what the other subject is to become should they look into SCP-XXXX.

The journal is an old, worn spiral bound black notebook belonging to ████ ██████, who is believed to be the deceased XXXX-1 instance found in the home. Much of the journal is either incoherent, ruined, or expunged by its author. Recovered texts are as follows:

Nearly the end of my night. I lie down, put my head to the pillow, and wait but sleep still doesn't come. I just can't get her voice out of my head. She actually told me that I wasn't worth a damn. That I was a monster. It's not my fault she always had such a bad attitude, such a strong sense of self-entitlement, that she thought she could just go and do these awful things to me but making me out to be the bad guy for defending myself? That's fucked. I know it happened years ago and shouldn't even matter anymore but I can't help but remember it.
Kept telling me she "didn't know where I went" because I'm not the man she once fell in love with. I don't know either, Jade. I don't know either.

I've been thinking. I never quite understood why and I've never heard of anyone with a similar issue. I don't know why I can't stand the sound of my own name. Speaking it to someone, hearing someone else say it, makes my skin crawl and my stomach churn. Why am I disgusted with it? I have had no problems talking to another person with the very same name as me, but whenever I say the name in reference to myself I just get extremely uncomfortable.
Who am I kidding? It's probably the same reason you don't look yourself in the mirror, ████.

Seriously? My own mother? She has the audacity to accuse me of slander when she asks me to obtain them for herself? I don't give a shit, I need these. Makes my fucking day bearable so they don't come home and see me swinging by my fucking neck. Knowing my luck it wouldn't kill me somehow and I would just be left hanging there until something got me down or the belt breaks. I'm not going to sit here and just take this!
I'm not a fucking monster.
Does doing what others want to do, saying what everyone else thinks, make me so? No. They're wrong. Their logic is flawed because it's riddled if not based in irrationality. Good doesn't mean nice. And sometimes, if life in this business has taught me anything, is that sometimes to kill the monsters, you have to become one.

I finally cried today. I always feel so emotionally drained and physically exhausted all the time I almost forgot what feeling something like that felt like. Everything just got too much, the baggage too heavy. I turned on the shower, got the water to temp, started thinking about the state of things, and before you know it I was bawling. Didn't stop 'til the water went cold. I stared myself hard in the mirror, reflecting on myself as the mirror reflected me. I doubt she even remembers what you did, why haunt yourself over it? If you truly are innocent, then why are you still punished so by everyone else? But I'm not innocent, and I'm certainly not good.
What's the use in confessing to my own haunted reflection? I'm doing another couple tabs and lying down. This is all a bit much.

Handwriting gets notably degraded.
It would've been █ years today. If that bitch thought of more than just herself. Everyone else is at work so I finally have the house to myself. I can barely form my thoughts enough to write them down. Did too many. Oh well. Someone's gotta, right?

The following appears to have been written hastily and in blue ink rather than the noted standard black.

Something fucked just happened. There are stories of the "Bloody Mary" thing where you say her name 3 times in a dim lit room and she seems to appear. Well that was explained, I'm not sure of the specific jargon, but essentially after a few minutes in that low light your brain essentially gets bored and starts conjuring images in your peripheral vision. Well I was looking in the mirror after I brushed my hair after the shower and I had barely looked at my reflection for a few seconds and I swear that my reflection was watching me in A DIFFERENT POSITION than I was, just for a moment. I couldn't stand looking at it anymore, it terrified me more than usual. Gotta look into this.

The entries over the next several days are illegible ramblings that seem to have been written over themselves repeatedly. Whether this is due to an apparent psychological breakdown or self redaction is currently unknown. Only the final entry is legible.

Notes: I want work to be done on clearing up those redactions immediately. We don't have enough evidence to confirm the entities' identity at the recovery site, records exist but reported friends and family claim no knowledge of the boy existing at all. Something about this just feels wrong. There's more to this than what we're seeing here. - O5-13

Addendum: By order of the O5 Council, this OOI is to be taken for possible SCP classification after findings confirming that the apparent self redaction contains anomalous properties and can be extremely hazardous. Further research is ongoing under the direction of Director ██████.
