Item #: SCP-XX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XX is to be kept in a 1 m x 1 m x 1 m airtight locker. In case of a Class-1 or Class-2 Scenario, a guide on playing the jew's harp is clearly placed within SCP-XX's containment room along with information on Class-1 and Class-2 Scenarios.
SCP-XX's locker must be kept in a constant vacuum state, as to not expose SCP-XX to corrosives for extended periods of time. Before personnel may access SCP-XX's containment room, it must first be depressurized. Personnel are to then enter through an airlock wearing full-pressure suits fitted with oxygen tanks and exhaust systems leading outside the containment room.
Any personnel entering SCP's containment room are to be given daily jew's harp lessons at least three days prior. All personnel are advised to take great care with SCP-XX, as to not trigger a Class-2 Scenario.
The storage, possession, and consumption of alcohol is not permitted within 60 meters of SCP-XX's containment area. Anyone caught intoxicated or in possession of alcohol in the vicinity of SCP-XX will be immediately removed from the area and reprimanded.
Civilians who witness SCP-XX-1 instances are to be administered Class A amnestics. Deaths involving SCP-XX are to be covered up.
Class-1 Scenario Procedures: Personnel are instructed to not interact with SCP-XX-1 instances, and to wait until SCP-XX-1 instances have fully disappeared.
Class-2 Scenario Procedures: Target is to remain within 18 14 meters and must have an unobstructed view of SCP-XX. SCP-XX-2 must mimic the notes produced by SCP-XX-1 on the harp, regardless of it’s condition.
Class-3 Scenario Procedures: Target is to be considered terminated. Any attempt at rescue is to be discouraged. Any personnel in the immediate vicinity are to be evacuated.
Description: SCP-XX is a 9 cm long by 6 cm wide jew’s harp discovered on August 15th, 2006 in ██████, ████████. The frame, reed, and pins are all constructed out of steel with fairly similar carbon contents. The harp's reed is noticeably darker than the frame, yet no pigments or other chemicals can be detected. No markings suggest an origin or maker.
When SCP-XX sustains sufficient damage to meet at least one of the criteria for a Class-1 Scenario (See Addendum XX.1), a Class-1 Scenario will occur. If SCP-XX is still in a position in which it may become damaged, (eg. a furnace), it will remove itself from the threat. 3 to ████ humanoid figures constructed out of varying materials1, classified as SCP-XX-1, will manifest. Instances measure on average at 170 cm tall and all weighing in at 18 kg. All SCP-XX-1 appear to resemble male caucasian humans. Some instances may be unable to locomote due to material. This quality can not trigger a Class-2 Scenario.
Instances will manifest behind objects and out of line of sight. This does not include cameras, and recordings capture instances "popping into reality." Instances appearing behind objects that cannot obscure SCP-XX-1's full mass will instead assemble as the instance moves. This is described as "3d printing." A strong smell of sulphur follows SCP-XX-1 instances.
32% of SCP-XX-1 instances wear no clothing. 40% wear confederate and union uniforms. Despite all instances appearing male, the last 28% of instances wear clothing items such as children's and woman's clothing. All clothing reflects attire prevalent during the 1860s.
SCP-XX-1 instances emit “grunting” noises, though on occasions, coughing, laughing, crying, and screaming have also been reported. Instances are assumed to not be sentient.
SCP-XX-1 will seek out and attempt to repair SCP-XX, utilizing appendages to “hammer” SCP-XX. Regardless of the force applied to SCP-XX, the nature, and severity of the damage, SCP-XX is progressively repaired until it appears new. Repairs can take from 30 seconds to 72 hours.
A Class-2 Scenario may only occur if one or more criteria are met. (See Addendum XX.2)
The object, whether animate or inanimate, which triggers a Class-2 Scenario, will be referred to as the target. Only one object may become a target, and all other objects will be ignored. During a Class-2 Scenario, SCP-XX-1 instances will stop repairing SCP-XX and turn to face the target. The nearest SCP-XX-1 instance will emit 1-3 notes. If the target is unable to replicate the notes emitted by SCP-XX, a bullet or other projectile of varying mass and caliber will fly towards the target. Projectiles are largely unimpeded by matter, capable of piercing through several layers of ballistic armour. If the initial bullet does not kill or destroy the target, 5 to ████ identical projectiles will fly towards the target. Projectiles disappear before exiting target. Projectiles move at speeds normal for their size and caliber. No time limit is given for animate targets, while inanimate objects are given 1 minute.
Exiting SCP-XX's line of sight, moving 18 14 meters away from SCP-XX, using another non anomalous Jew's Harp instead of SCP-XX, using recordings to mimic the jew's harp, or using any other form of loophole or cheating immediately causes multiple projectiles to fly toward the target's head.
If the target successfully replicates the notes emitted by SCP-XX-1 or killed, all instances will disappear in a cloud of smoke of an unknown chemical of varying color. SCP-XX will also emit this smoke and will be repaired upon subsiding.
If an individual with a BAC of at least .07% enters SCP-XX's 50 yard radius, a Class-3 scenario will occur. The target will immediately become sober and aware of SCP-XX's location and properties. SCP-XX-1 will behave in a manner untypical for Class-2 Scenarios. Instances will follow and corral the target towards SCP-XX, becoming impassable.
Instances will only produce notes when the target touches SCP-XX. All SCP-XX-1 instances will produce notes in unison. SCP-XX-1, instead of producing 1-3 notes, will produce an unknown, possibly endless amount of notes rapidly advancing in difficulty, quickly becoming impossible to reproduce. The target is given ten seconds to emulate a series of notes. The target, instead of being killed by projectiles, will instead disappear along with SCP-XX and SCP-XX-1 instances in the same smoke. This also happens when the target breaks physical contact with or line of sight once established.
Note: The testing of Class-3 Scenarios is now strictly prohibited. See Incident-XX-A
Addendum XX.1
Class-1 Scenario Criteria:
- SCP-XX's reed is cracked or severed completely.
- SCP-XX is sufficiently altered to distort sound of SCP-XX. This includes tuning.
- SCP-XX's main mass is changed by at least one gram whether by physical or chemical means.
- SCP-XX reaches a temperature sufficient enough to warp the reed.
- SCP-XX reaches a velocity of over 153 km/h.
- SCP-XX's reed is bent to the point of being unable to regain it's original position upon release.
- SCP-XX is disassembled completely.
- One or both of SCP-XX's arms is bent upwards or downwards.
Addendum XX.2
Class-2 Scenario Criteria:
- All SCP-XX-1 instances are prevented from accessing SCP-XX for more than 4 seconds.
- Target attempts to damage SCP-XX-1. Does not always guarantee a Class-2 Scenario. Does not include inanimate objects.
- SCP-XX is damaged again while SCP-XX is undergoing repairs. Does not include inanimate objects.
- Target attempts to verbally converse with SCP-XX-1. Does not include inanimate objects.
- Target attempts to assist SCP-XX-1 in repairing SCP-XX.
Test A - Date:11/03/07
Subject:D-1487
Procedure:D-1487 is instructed to bend SCP-XX's reed.
Results:D-1487 complies, shortly afterwards 7 SCP-XX-1 instances manifest. 3 are constructed out of paper-mache. 2 appear to be crudely stuffed burlap, unable to locomote. 1 is constructed out of plastic. 1 is constructed out of chicken wire, D-1487 observes this instance is covered in paint. SCP-XX-1 instances begin to mimic the motion of hammering SCP-XX. SCP-XX is seen to warp back into its undamaged form, after which all SCP-XX-1 instances disappear in a multicolored smoke.
Test B - Date:18/03/07
Subject: D-9865
Procedure: D-9865 is instructed to place SCP-XX in a hydraulic press. SCP-XX's is bent to the point of disfigurement. SCP-XX-1 instances are then walled off from SCP-XX.
Results: D-9865 complies. 13 SCP-XX-1 instances manifest. SCP-XX is then walled off from SCP-XX-1. After four seconds, all SCP-XX-1 instances turn to face the wall. The nearest instance then emits two notes of varying pitch and length. After one minute, a 3 kg artillery shell appears and flies towards the wall. The shell enters the wall, and disappears before it penetrates the other side. Shortly after, several projectiles of varying mass hit the wall, all disappearing. After the majority of the wall's mass is destroyed, all SCP-XX-1 instances disappear in multicolored smoke.
Analysis: SCP-XX-1 instances become hostile to any barrier or entity separating SCP-XX and SCP-XX-1 instances.
Test C - Date:25/03/07
Subject: D-5908
Procedure: D-5908 is given jew's harp lessons 3 days prior to testing. D-5908 is instructed to place SCP-XX in a furnace burning at approximately 1,400°C. SCP-XX-1 instances manifest. D-5908 is then instructed to attempt to communicate with an SCP-XX-1 instance.
Results: D-5908 complies, shortly afterwards 3 SCP-XX-1 instances appear and begin to move towards SCP-XX. SCP-XX is seen exiting the furnace, visibly warped with a black film covering the frame. SCP-XX-1 instances begin repairing SCP-XX, and SCP-XX begins to bend back into shape and slowly regain its original color. D-5908 is then instructed to verbally engage SCP-XX-1 instances. Instances turn to face the subject, and the one nearest to D-5908 emits two notes. D-5908 is then instructed to emulate the notes. D-5908 hesitates, and asks for a repetition of the notes. A recording of the two notes are replayed through a speaker. Shortly afterwards, an array of projectiles appear and kill the subject. All instances then vanish in a cloud of light colored smoke. SCP-XX, which was visibly warped, is now completely repaired.
Analysis: We weren't aware that recordings of SCP-XX would cause the target to immediately be killed prior to this testing session. More testing is required to determine what else will cause this reaction.
