Item #: SCP-XXXXX
SCP-XXXX-17. Time stamp blocked.
Object Class: Uncontained
Special Containment Procedures: Printed copies of SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a standard containment locker. Digital copies of the images are stored within a separate standard containment hard drive.
Access to the unfiltered SCP-XXXX copies is restricted to the research team assigned to decode the SCP-XXXX instances. Any copies of SCP-XXXX outside the Foundation must be immediately acquired and removed from the host website under the guise of a database malfunction.
Description: SCP-XXXX is the collective designation to a group of images of anomalous sand circles uploaded in the social media platform Facebook. Based on the collected images, there are a total of 23 unique sand circles assigned SCP-XXXX-1 to 23 in chronological order.
All digital and physical copies of the image have a mild memetic property which causes anyone who views it to have an apathetic attitude towards it, making the photos seemingly uninteresting and is mostly ignored. Information gathered from the interview with POI-XXXX suggests that the actual sand circles may have some sort of a cognitohazardous property which explains why its existence remained unknown to the Foundation until POI-XXXX uploaded the photos.
For this reason, access to the original and unfiltered images of all SCP-XXXX instances is only accessible to the research team, created and led by Dr. Alfonso Astuares, to prevent the potential spread of an unknown and undiscovered anomalous property of SCP-XXXX instances.
Each sand circle is a highly complex form of writing each containing a message unique to that of the sand circle. Translation of each image is highly difficult due to its complexity and lack of recognizable pattern, and the fact that each image of the SCP-XXXX instances was taken in an unfavorable vantage point and in a relatively low quality, making the details blurred or warped. The creator of the sand circles and its supposed recipient remains unknown. (Refer to Addenda/Messages)
Geographical analysis of each image revealed that each SCP-XXXX instances were created in a single location which was a small foreshore on M████████, C███, Philippines, which appears for a few hours on days with particularly low tides.
Discovery: Due to the town’s relatively low population and lack of technologically adept civilians, the manifestation of the instances was not brought upon on any news platforms. SCP-XXXX instances are hypothesized to have some sort of cognitohazardous property as interrogated locals report not seeing any of the instances, while a few who did acknowledge its existence dismissed it as no more than just scribbles in the sand created by a local youth or artist.
On █/██/16, a Facebook account owned by R████████. A█████ J█., referred here as POI-XXXX, uploaded 23 albums, each containing 20 to 25 images of a particular SCP-XXXX instance.
POI-XXXX was located and interviewed.
Interview Log:
Interviewed:POI-XXXX
Interviewer: Dr. Erwin Villano
Note: Some parts of the interview were purposely removed for the sake of brevity. Personnel who wishes to see the full transcript may submit a request form to Dr. Halar.
<Begin Log>
Dr. Villano: Are you the one who took them?
POI-XXXX: I think so. I mean I don’t remember taking it myself but since I found it on my phone, then I guess I did.
Dr. Villano: Let me make this clear, you don’t remember taking them?
POI-XXXX: Yes. But then again I think I did because I can see my dog in there.
Dr. Villano: Excuse me?
POI-XXXX: My dog. You see that small white one over there? (Subject points at the sample image.) That’s my beloved dog, Max. Since that beach is located a few kilometers away from my house and that I always bring him around when I go to places, then the only logical explanation why he’s there is because I probably went on that place with him and took those images. I mean if I saw those things I would’ve definitely taken photos of them but then I again I really can’t remember taking those photos. I know I have a poor memory and that I always forget a few things but I can’t believe that I actually forgot taking those photos if I ever did in the first place anyway.
Dr. Villano: I see. Do you know who created them then?
POI-XXXX: What? The sand circles? No.
Dr. Villano: Have you tried asking anyone around the vicinity if they ever saw the person that made it?
POI-XXXX: Well, see that’s another weird thing too. I asked them and none of them saw who made it. Even the small eatery that was only a few meters away from the sand circles, none of them saw anything. They were acting weird too every time I ask them anything about the circles.
Dr. Villano: Please elaborate.
POI-XXXX: Every time I asked them something about the circle, they were either dismissive or apathetic. Every time I question them further they just get annoyed and sometimes get mad with me, not because they really don’t want to tell me who made it but they’re just genuinely annoyed by me. Since I get uncomfortable with conflict I just stopped asking.
Dr. Villano: Did they acknowledge the existence of the sand circles?
POI-XXXX: Some of them did but they didn’t really care that much. To them, the circles just looked okay and that it didn’t really need that much attention. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess.
Dr. Villano: How about you? Why do you like it?
POI-XXXX: Well I always liked symmetrical things or crop circles. I’ve always wanted to see one up close. To see something so symmetrical in such a huge scale would be a dream come true for me. Well not that much but almost that much? Anyway, so basically I just like symmetrical things. It’s too bad I didn’t saw those sand circles myself but at least I have some photos of those. I was so excited to post those in my FB so I could share them with my friends but unfortunately, it only received a few likes. I think about an average of fifteen each album maybe? Guess selfies always get the most likes eh?
Dr. Villano: I guess so. Do you still have the original copies of the photos?
POI-XXXX: Sorry, no. I deleted them after I posted them because I told you before I was clearing my storage space for some apps. Why do you need them anyway?
Dr. Villano: No reason in particular. So just a recap, you posted the photos, you think you took the photos, you don’t know who made them, none of the people around your town knows who made them and you’re the only one with copies of the photos which you have already deleted, correct?
POI-XXXX: Yes, pretty much.
Dr. Villano: Well then, I think we are done here. Thank you for your time Mr. A█████.
POI-XXXX: You’re welcome.

Additional Notes: POI-XXXX was further tested for any signs of amnesia or any anomalous properties. Test results showed that the subject was physically healthy and normal. POI-XXXX was both physically and mentally unremarkable. A thorough search of POI-XXXX belongings was uneventful. The subject was amnesticed and released but will be continuously monitored due to his significant involvement with SCP-XXXX.
Addendum/Messages: The following images are filtered of any anomalous property and are safe for viewing. Access to the raw and complete copies of SCP-XXXX is limited to the research team tasked of decoding the instances.
Note: Due to the complexity and the quality of the images of SCP-XXXX instances, it is estimated that at most only 75% of the encrypted messages will ever be decoded.
Listed below are the only SCP-XXXX instances decoded at more than 50% since its acquisition.

Each sand circle is a highly complex form of writing each containing a message unique to that of the sand circle. Even with the accumulated data from previously discovered and decoded crop circles confirmed to be alien in origin, translation of each image is highly difficult due to its complexity and lack of recognizable pattern, and the fact that each image of the SCP-XXXX instances was taken in an unfavorable vantage point and in a relatively low quality, making the details blurred or warped. The interview with POI-XXXX was uneventful as the subject was also affected by the cognitohazard. The subject claimed that he did not create the sand circles but only discovered the images on his phone when he was freeing its memory storage. Subject further added that he uploaded the images as he found it to be "cool" and that it would be a waste to not share it to his online friends.
Further tests of POI-XXXX revealed that the subject was physically and mentally healthy and normal. A thorough search of POI-XXXX belongings was uneventful and the subject was amnesticed and released but will be continuously monitored due to his suspicious involvement in SCP-XXXX.
