SCP-XXXX before transfer to foundation custody

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a standard anomalous object storage unit in Site ██, with access limited to only level 3 personnel and above. Due to SCP-XXXX's potentially dangerous psychological effects, all testing must be approved by at least 2 level 4 personnel. At no point may two or more people enter the room simultaneously. All who come into direct contact with SCP-XXXX must be subdued with proper sleeping agents before recovery, and afterward be subject to psychological evaluation.
Containment Procedures Revision 01: All remains of human victims of SCP-XXXX-1 must be removed from site and incinerated before any further testing may be conducted. (See addendum XXXX-02)
Containment Procedures Revision 02: All that come into contact with SCP-XXXX must be terminated after any research has been completed. (See addendum XXXX-03)

Description: SCP-XXXX is a stringed musical instrument recovered from █████, Africa in 19██. It is thought to be a lyre made for symbolic or ritualistic purposes in the 19th century. The main body of SCP-XXXX is a partially decayed human skull, which has the roof carved open for the placement of a stretched antelope skin across. Similarly, antelope horns, guts, and hair are used for string mounts, strings, and decoration respectively.

SCP-XXXX was brought to the attention of the foundation after several reports of sightings of mutilated bodies around the █████ region of Central Africa. These reports describe the bodies of having only guts and intestines removed, with no other parts being damaged. The culprit of these murders was tracked by agent ████, and subsequently interviewed (see interview log XXXX-01). After expressing belief of music in Agent ████'s body, the subject attempted to attack agent ████, who terminated the subject's life as part of self defense. SCP-XXXX was safely recovered and taken to Site ██, where it currently resides.

SCP-XXXX's anomalous behaviors manifest only when an entity of substantial mental capacity makes visual contact with it. Upon viewing SCP-XXXX, the subject (hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1) will feel a near uncontrollable urge to strum it. This effect does not take place when viewing SCP-XXXX via image, recording, or live video feed. Upon touching SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX-1 will begin playing traditional tribal African music (exact contents of the music varies between SCP-XXXX-1 instances). Continued physical contact with SCP-XXXX triggers SCP-XXXX-1 to enter a state of psychosis, in which it reports hearing continued playing of the music in the stomachs of all people around them. SCP-XXXX-1 instances have consistently located music playing from other humans which they could not see, or were even aware of, effectively allowing SCP-XXXX-1 instances to locate all humans within a 10m radius.

When in this psychotic state, SCP-XXXX-1 will experience an uncontrollable urge to extract the source of music from other human bodies by any means possible. This results in the disembowelment of victims, as their entrails are extracted through any tools available. If no acceptable tools are available, SCP-XXXX-1 will violently dig into a victim's body by natural means, often resulting in long lasting pain on the victim.

Upon extracting the entrails from a victim, the SCP-XXXX-1 will return them to SCP-XXXX before searching for another victim. If given many victims, the SCP-XXXX-1 will create a stockpile of human entrails, which they report (by means of nearly incoherent ramblings) to bring power to SCP-XXXX, which SCP-XXXX-1 will refer to by a number of names, such as "The Great Music", "The Savior", "██████", and "Jared". Should the path between SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX be obstructed, SCP-XXXX-1 will attempt any physical means to reach it, which, depending on the material obstructing the path, could lead to self-destruction and/or termination of SCP-XXXX-1.

Interview log XXXX-01:

Interviewed: Original Subject of SCP-XXXX

Interviewer: Agent ████

Foreword: Agent ████ has detained the subject in his home, also noting a pile of human entrails in the back of the room. Agent ████ conducts an in-field interview.

<Begin Log>

Agent ████: Now, you're on record. Would you mind explaining the many murders you've conducted?

Subject: Need… to get… music! Makes… it… strong!

Agent ████: Now what is this 'it' you're talking about

Subject: Great Music… will help… us! Will help… us all!

Agent ████: How will the great music help us? Could you please explain yourself?

Subject begins thrashing in his seat.

Subject: It… ends… ends blind! Blind… like you! Your music… out!

Several bangs and grunts can be heard, presumably the Subject attempting to attack Agent ████.

Addendum XXXX-02: During an experiment conducted by Dr. █████, D-8713 was placed subject to SCP-XXXX, and given as many D-Class victims as he desired. After disemboweling 15 victims, and placing their entrails in SCP-XXXX's chamber, D-8713 was terminated, with no clean-up being ordered. Immediately following, D-████ was put under the effect of SCP-XXXX. Immediately when entering psychosis, D-████ screamed about "The Savior" being already very powerful. She then destroyed one wall to SCP-XXXX's containment chamber with inhuman strength, and killed █ foundation personnel before being terminated. Due to the risk of a site-wide containment breach, all human entrails must be cleaned from SCP-XXXX before any further interaction may occur.

Addendum XXXX-03: During a failed experiment, Dr. ████ became subject to SCP-XXXX, along with 3 D-Class personnel. After the D-Class subjects were terminated, Dr. ████ was detained and underwent psychological evaluation. After █ weeks of detention, Dr. ████ was deemed to be clear of all effects related to SCP-XXXX, and was returned to work after receiving Class C amnestics. Dr. ████ had never come into contact with SCP-XXXX again, but after █ months of normal behavior, Dr. ████ displayed identical symptoms of SCP-XXXX psychosis, and extracted the entrails of one foundation member with use of a scalpel. Once the entrails were collected, Dr. ████ moved directly towards SCP-XXXX's containment chamber, despite not having memory of its location, and immediately attempted to breach the door with brute force. Continued attempts to break the door led to Dr. ████'s expiration.
