Idea Draft - Jellyfish
Jellyfish like creature, travels via air rather than water. Spends 90% of its time completely still, occasionally moves very quickly in small and erratic patterns with no known purpose.
Electromagnetic resonance, known to emit resonance across the entire scale. Euclid designation. Potential Thaumiel as per O5 designation (council division on treatment of asset - some want to destroy).
Non-communicative; no clear evidence it has the ability to communicate. Sentient, intelligence unknown, capacity unknown.
Spikes and falls in various types of electromagnetic wave, emits these spikes with no recorded external stimuli and no body language/action to suggest any level of emotion.
Does not appear to eat or drink.
Initial Encounter:
Subject found after mass blackouts over a massive radius. Electricity company reported transformers critically overloaded and partially melted. Assumed vandalism. Repeated four times in five months, handed over to FBI. Two agents died during investigation. One died from massive cardiac arrhythmia and the other committed suicide - unknown if related to investigation. Entity discovered shortly after by Field Agents and marked for retrieval.
Retrieval easily successful - subject did not resist. Did not even seem aware it was imprisoned, or showed no measurable reaction if it was. Note, retrieval team suffered a variety of serious medical conditions in the following months. One developed onset dementia at thirty, another had a sudden onset of severe Parkinsons, a third presented with idiopathic nervous damage resulting in partial paralysis.
Experimentation:
Experiment One
Subject tested on entry. Shown to not need any form of nutrition, showed no reaction to external stimuli - no reaction to humans, animals or objects. No apparent need to sleep, no noticeable organs of any kind. No exhibited communication skills. No reaction to superficial wounding. Reaction to substantive wounding inflicted by gunshot - pain reaction negligible but moved quite suddenly at extreme speed and caused the Class D to lose consciousness without contact. The researcher ordering the experiment suffered a heart attack simultaneously and two guards on the exterior of the unit reported with severe headache, confusion, blurred vision and weakness in all muscles.
Experiment One - Interview Log One - Class D Medical Interview
Class D <Redacted>: Hello
Interviewer: Hi, how are you feeling?
Class D <Redacted>: Like crap. My head is buzzing and I feel freezing cold, can't stop shaking. Where
are we?
Interviewer: You don't recognise where we are?
Class D: Of course I do, this is a Foundation Facility, and you're Doctor Nguhara
Interviewer: No, I'm Doctor <Redacted>. Doctor Nguhara treated you this morning.
Do you know what time it is?
Class D: Yes, roughly. It's about eleven a.m.
Interviewer: It's nearly eight p.m. You were treated at eleven p.m. Have you been unconscious since?
Class D: No…I don't think so…shit….I don't….my mind's all fuzzy.
Interviewer: Take your time. What happened in the containment unit?
Class D: I was in a containment unit?
Interviewer: Yes, that's why you were being treated
Class D: Ah yes, how am I doing Doctor Nguhara?
Interviewer: You're doing well. How do you feel?
Class D: Woah, that's so weird, I had a dream we had this discussion doc! Imagine that. My head is
buzzing and I feel freezing cold, can't stop shaking. Am I alright?
Interviewer: Yes. I'd say you're doing just fine.
[Interviewer Notes to Accompany Tape (Addendum One)]
The Class D exposed to the subject appears to have suffered symptoms similar to a concussion. The memory loss is high and is affecting both short and long term memory. Class D appears to have a reduced comprehension of the line between reality and fantasy. Medical examination shows reduced reception of sensation in limbs, heightened core temperature, markers of severe inflammation. Pupil dilation is poor and attention span is limited. Class D seems unwilling to sit still, moving erratically if placed in a singular location, and appears to have more limited intellectual capacity. Conversation is lucid, but frequently forgotten or deviated from.
I recommend Class D be referred for a full medical examination and MRI to determine the subject's defensive capacities. Then, the Class D should be terminated.
[END INTERVIEWER NOTES]
Experiment One - Class D Medical Test Log
The Class D exposed to <Subject> was referred for full medical cross-examination. Psychological testing showed a complete inability to distinguish between reality and fiction - including the presentation of X-Men comics which prompted the Class D to ask "Can I meet the man who shoots lasers from his eyes?" and presentation of Paddington Bear to which the Class D commented "I've never seen a bear on a train in [Hometown <REDACTED>]". On further questioning the Class D did not appear to be joking. Class D also showed markers for schizophrenia and was generally irritable as well as failing completely to follow instructions, in some cases forgetting them prior to completion. He was also unable to hold conversation and appeared to have visual difficulty in processing new concepts. Class D presented comparably to a patient of alzheimers.
Physical examination showed the Class D to have severely reduced nervous stimuli, apparently uncontrolled spasms, and damage to eyesight and hearing. Other senses were not tested. Researcher <Redacted> took control of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) testing.
This testing proved lethal. The Class D appeared to resonate with the machine, causing an unsafe level of electromagnetic waves, leading to an overload. The machine was destroyed and the Class D eviscerated. Feedback from the labs monitoring systems suggest the Class D functioned as an amplifier, boosting the waves to unsafe levels and causing detonation of both machine and test subject. The other researcher present complained of headaches and nervous disposition shortly after and were quarantined immediately.
END LOG
Following the initial test, Site Director <Redacted> authorised refined testing regarding the electromagnetic properties of the subject. These tests showed the subject emitted - simultaneously - waves across the electromagnetic spectrum without consistency of wave, strength or type. A further entry into the subject's unit was authorised by Senior Researcher <Redacted>. The subject appeared not to be cognisant of the entry. Initial testing confirmed the preliminary findings. When instruction was issued by radio, the subject became agitated and rendered the Class D catatonic. For this reason, containment instructions are strictly no radios or wave emitting devices within the proximity of the cell.
Owing to the sickness of security teams known to frequently patrol nearby the subject; again complaining of headaches, nausea and confusion, reflective arrays were fitted to minimise the waves passing through the structure. The subject appeared to have no opposition to this and has suffered no negative effects to date. The teams involved in carrying this order out were all quarantined for observation.
HIGHLY CLASSIFIED - O5 COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES - THAUMIEL CLEARANCE REQUIRED
[Abridged]
The council was called to discuss the progression of research involving subject <title>. Site Director <redacted> took a proposal for neutralisation. the 05 council debated this motion without the presence of the site director.
The council was split in its deliberations. O5-12 noted severe concerns regarding the safety of continuing to support such a subject as "It does not want. It does not eat. It may not even know what it's doing. That thing could emit concentrated radiation and turn half the planet into a Chernobyl nuclear disaster. We have no idea of its capacity, what it does, or even why it does. We have no idea if it can even be destroyed - but it is our responsibility to try."
O5-02 stated "Caution is required with this subject. It appears only to react to provocation. The safest thing to do, is to do nothing. It's only lethality events have been when it has been interfered with."
O5-07 stated "It has had a lasting effect on the researchers and Class D's with any degree of exposure as well as incidental effect on security personnel. The unique thing about this subject is it appears to act psychologically and physically upon its targets. This type of defence mechanism is unprecedented. It may provide a solution to a far greater problem - containing Keter level threats."
The council debated then voted, 8-5 in favour of continuing experimentation on the subject.
HIGHLY CLASSIFIED - END
On authority of the O5 council (see note <Name> LEVEL FIVE CLEARANCE ONLY) experimentation on the subject was authorised subject to clearance from the Site Director for all requests risk assessed to medium-high risk, and clearance from three senior researchers for medium-low risk. This subject has also been upgraded to level 4, with the file clearance at level 3 for all directly involved personnel. All tactical response offers have been briefed that, until further notice, using electromagnetic pulses and sonar pulsing if there is risk of the subject extending its area of effect beyond the site is fully authorised. The Site Director has signed off on this action and risk assessment RA-<Subject designation>-EMP-01-B.
Risk Assessment <Subject Designation> EMP-01-B
Site Director Level Risk Assessment Clearance
Subject: <NAME>
Classification: Euclid
Risk Level: High-Utmost
Reason for Assessment: Code 45-PAS-Grade 2 (Code 45 <form name> - Potential Apocalyptic Situation - Grade 2 - REMOVE THIS ON SUBMISSION)
Assessment Type: Neutralisation Strategy
Notes For Assessment:
Subject exhibits electromagnetic properties, limitations unknown. Negative reaction to physical damage. Negative reaction to complimentary waves. I am authorising all containment personnel to utilise high power sonar and electromagnetic pulsing. This strategy carries the following risks;
- Potential ineffectiveness; total potential damage limitless, loss of life potential - 7.7 billion.
- Potential effectiveness; total potential damage limitless, loss of life potential - 7.7 billion
- Potential death of subject
This risk assessment notes elimination is a higher risk strategy than containment and should only be employed if the subject poses immediate risk to the site with potential to enact escape or the subject employs an area of effect greater than one quarter (1/4) of the circumference of the earth, or if the subject increases intensity of waves to the degree were personnel not to terminate immediately they would be rendered incapable of termination.
I have fully considered these risks and consent to them. I have further referenced all matters requiring appropriate clearance to the O5 council.
Signed; Site Director <redacted>
END OF RISK ASSESSMENT
It is noted this is an extremely high risk strategy and not advised except for reasons clearly outlined on the risk assessment.
Experimentation using electromagnetic waves is also banned without exception.
Directives are to investigate the effects of exposure for varying time periods. Class D workers were sorted into groups adjusted for close proximity of psychological health, physical health, age, weight and sex. These groups were then exposed within the containment unit in three groups. The results are appended below.
EXPOSURE TO SUBJECT <DESIGNATION> MEDICAL EXPERIMENT LOGS
Group One - Continuous Exposure
24 Hours - Minor complaints. confusion, nausea, vomiting, blurry vision, loss of balance, feelings of impending doom, minor spasms and slight slurring of speech.
72 Hours - Severe negative effects varying in nature from severe seizures, strokes, heart palpitations, nervous system failures from mild to severe, uncontrollable shaking, to partial paralysis, loss of blood flow to extremities, loss of sight, loss of teeth, loss of hair, loss of control, anger, mental delusions, slurred speech, hallucinations and greatly increased pain threshold.
96 Hours - All Class D's deceased.
Group Two - Medium Exposure (twelve hours in twenty four)
This test group exhibited wildly different effects with a greater propensity to the psychological. During non-exposure periods, the Class D's were found to exhibit high level psychological issues after just forty eight hours. After seventy two hours, this experiment was discontinued as the Class D's began to attack each other within the unit. To prevent potential provocation of the subject, they were terminated immediately.
Group Three - Minimal Exposure (six hours in twenty four)
This test group seemed relatively unaffected except for substantial losses of IQ and minor muscular disorders, including tremors and shakes, after forty eight hours.
At ninety six hours the Class D's self-reported hearing voices, hallucinations and loss of motor function. They further exhibited increasing instability including suicidal thoughts.
At one hundred and forty four hours, two of the group had committed suicide. The rest were interred for their own protection. After one attempted to antagonise the subject - it is assumed in the hope they would be killed - this experiment was discontinued and the participants quarantined for observation.
END MEDICAL RECORD
A dissection of Class D worker, designation D-339-4UT-1, showed the brain and other muscle tissue substantively altered. The neurons show severe damage and alteration to the axons resulting in incorrect information being issued across the entire nervous system. D-339-4UT-1 did not appear to realise his leg had been subject to incision without anaesthesia. D-339-4UT-1 showed little comprehension of his surroundings, had no ability to hold conversation and rambled incoherently to himself. D-339-4UT-1 was terminated partway through the trials when he yelled "I don't deserve to live" and attacked the researchers.
Post-mortem examination demonstrated a near complete reduction of norepinephrine and serotonin. The consistency of this appears targeted. The second experimental group (12/24) also had negligible levels of the relevant neurotransmitters. A request was made to re-categorise this subject from Euclid to Keter as the examination suggests this wave activity is an intentional defence mechanism which may offer the subject a chance to escape and as such it is continually hostile, but was denied on the basis a defence mechanism which takes days to function is unlikely to be defensive or facilitate escape.
Up to this point, containment and study is priority as the subject's potential is unknown. All personnel are to sign off all operations regarding this subject as per the priorities mentioned above. If you're unsure do not act. Any personnel found to breach the containment procedures, or to intentionally or unintentionally provoke the subject, will be immediately terminated by security regardless of rank.
