Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept within a standard anomaly containment cell within Site 45 under constantly recorded video surveillance. Access to SCP-XXXX by any Individual must be supervised by two level 3 researchers with a security force on standby. All personnel and D class accessing SCP-XXXX must have a current psychological report on file. Any individual showing abnormal interest in SCP-XXXX is to be barred from entry and have a full psychological evaluation conducted.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be terminated upon contact and the entity’s remains are to be transported to the Anomalous Biological Studies branch within Site 45. No attempts to contain an instance of SCP-XXXX are permitted [See addendum XXXX-D]

Description: SCP-XXXX is an ornamental stone archway with a wrought iron gate installed in it that was discovered in Charles Darwin University, Australia [See Recovery Log]. A phrase utilising the Latin alphabet has been inscribed into the stone, though the letters do not combine in Latin [See Addendum XXXX-C]. Any attempts to remove the phrase from the stone leads to it shifting to another part of the archway.
SCP-XXXX has a detectibly low Hume level, though this level is not enough to affect perceived reality.
The anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX will only affect Humans which fit a set of criteria defined within a journal found alongside SCP-XXXX [See addendum XXXX-C]. To individuals that showcase these criteria, SCP-XXXX is a low-level Cognito hazard. Any individual that matches these criteria and is aware of SCP-XXXX’s existence are subconsciously drawn to it. Affected individuals have previously stated that SCP-XXXX “Feels lucky” and several have talked about a rumour that SCP-XXXX will wipe away debt when an individual walks underneath it. The foundation is currently investigating the source of these rumours [See addendum XXXX-E].
Once an individual who matches the criteria of SCP-XXXX walks through it they are instantaneously replaced with a near-perfect copy of the individual, with a recollection of memories identical to the individual. This copy is identified as an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. Within a period of 48 hours the instance will undergo a process of rapid biological and physical mutations such as limbs extending and gaining several extra joints; A jaw that unhinges and splits in two; Acidic Bile replacing saliva; Skin peeling away from the muscle and forming prehensile tendrils. Instances do not share the same mutations. Instead, the mutations are specific to the affected individual’s ‘Desires’. Instances of SCP-XXXX show fragments of the individual’s personality post-mutation, though all known instances have been hostile against any ‘Impure’ entity. [See addendum XXXX-C]

Addendum: Retrieval Log
SCP-XXXX was reported to the Foundation on 19/4/19██ by Australian Law Enforcement due to a string of murders, with bodies that showed unconventional circumstances of death. Foundation personnel arrived on 20/4/19██ with Charles Darwin University cancelling classes for a week. Investigation of the grounds uncovered a burrow, with an array of stripped bones strewn around its entrance. Two personnel were sent to do a preliminary investigation of the burrow, though these two were later found hanging from a statue in the main courtyard.
One agent, Agent Keller, reported that the back gate of the art complex was lucky and that he felt if he just walked through it they would find their target. The supervising officer who knew Keller from their childhood granted Keller’s request to do so even though the gate was on the other side of the campus.
32 hours and seven minutes after Keller’s request a distress signal is sent out from the personnel team, and all attempts of communication were met with failure.
On 22/4/19██ An MTF was sent to recover the personnel, and investigate the anomaly. Upon arrival, they found the mutilated bodies of every member of the recovery team tied to the main gate using their own intestines. Agent Keller’s body was missing from the display, and the MTF began a sweep and search protocol. After three hours of thorough searching, the MTF came across SCP-XXXX, though all passed through with no adverse effects. After another hour of searching the team came across an instance of SCP-XXXX-1, which was described in debrief as a ‘spider with too many limbs, and a human face with melting skin’. The instance engaged the MTF, with one member being impaled by several limbs and the entity’s saliva coating their equipment. The entity of SCP-XXXX was terminated by another MTF, who then requested permission to put the assaulted agent ‘out of his misery’. Permission was granted.
Several more instances of SCP-XXXX-1 were located within a greenhouse behind SCP-XXXX’s location. Each was terminated, with no further casualties. After reporting the anomalous entities to command, the MTF proceded towards the entrance. They were intercepted by another instance of SCP-XXXX-1. One of the MTF recognises the face as Agent Keller, though his body has been twisted into a behemoth with three arms for legs. Keller does not attack on sight, and instead, he turns to the MTF and states that the foundation is “infected” and that the eight sins have turned it rotten. He claims that he held Desire and for it, he was punished by the fourth gate. Keller allows himself to be subdued by the MTF and is transported to site 45.
SCP-XXXX is later disassembled, with its pieces transported to site 45 and reconstructed, with a leatherbound journal found beneath the stone.

Addendum XXXX-A
Linguistic researcher Fairlane and Enigma expert Jones report that the Latin found on the surface of SCP-XXXX makes no sense. Fairlane claims that the writing has no basis in any Latin language in existence and that some of the letters are variants of standard letters. Jones also reported that the sequence does not follow any known code pattern either and that the journal they found alongside SCP-XXXX is written in not only this bastardisation of Latin but seven other languages. Though the 8th is incomprehensible and appears to be simply squiggles.

Addendum SCP-XXXX-1 Interview
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX-1; formerly Agent Keller

Interviewer: Dr █████

Foreword: Interview was conducted via two-way communication, with SCP-XXXX-1 unable to view Dr █████.

<Begin Log, [19:50]>

█████: SCP-XXXX-1, or would you rather I call you Keller?

SCP-XXXX-1: Call me whatever you must.

█████: Keller, then. I would like to ask you a few questions regarding SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX-1: The gate. You are having trouble with its language, are you not?

█████: Yes. I do not know how you know this, but we cant make sense of it. You reportedly have knowledge of it.

SCP-XXXX-1: The man of sin, above sin. He who chose the gate and he who wrote the journal. J. Guile. He told me much when I was punished, so much that it filled my skull and erased all else. But that was then, and now I do not remember. I am not the man you wish to talk to, he is.

████: J. Guile? Who is he? The man of sin above sin? What do you mean?

<End Log, [20:01]>

Closing Statement: [SCP-XXXX-1 was unresponsive to all further questioning. J. Guile was not located, and the foundation had no records of anyone with the alias ‘The man of sin, above sin’.]

Addendum XXXX-C
The following is an excerpt of the decoded journal, regarding SCP-XXXX.
The Fourth gate of sin: Desire.
Among the eight principalities, Desire is perhaps the easiest to claim denial to. All living beings have the capacity of desire, and most indulge themselves in it every moment of their life. The masked cares not for the excuses of mortality, and he has told me that this is to be the first gate.
You who are reading this have the pieces for the first gate and are searching for answers. The gate is selective in its prey, searching for those who can read the letters even if their message is concealed. Searching for those who desire to be rid of their form for one they wish for. Searching for those who look through reality and find the borders they will surpass. These sinful creatures are drawn, like a fly to the venus. Their soul knows it’s faults, and when the soul has found it’s place it will wish to follow the trail it must. The gate is just that, it leads the sinful to their rightful place within pain, and it unleashes their form upon the world to punish those who are unclean.

Addendum XXXX-D
A containment breach in site 45 was reported on the 17th of December, 19██. SCP-XXXX had begun emitting Hume levels of exceptionally low values, coinciding with the mutation of the contained SCP-XXXX-1. The entity passed through all containment walls, killing security personnel on contact with no weaponry affecting the entity. One hour and three minutes later an SRA was deployed within SCP-XXXX’s containment chamber, with SCP-XXXX-1 being terminated less than a minute later by Agent ██████. SCP-XXXX ceased activity, and upon review of the surveillance footage within SCP-XXXX’s containment two entities were visible. One entity for a mere 3 frames through SCP-XXXX. The entity within containment is believed to be J. Guile, though footage of the entity shows that their appearance changes with each viewing. The entity within SCP-XXXX is only definable by its mask; an infinite pattern.

Addendum XXXX-E
A separate excerpt in English underneath the leather binding of J. Guile’s journal.

I am not a pure man, and I possess the eight principle sins in excess. I am eternally hungry, reaching for sustenance that slips my grasp. I see all in front of me, the fabric shrouding your vision torn asunder years ago. I possess thought, thoughts in languages you will never understand. I desire for much, though I have siphoned my sin into stone. I dream beyond reality, imagination the key to my mortal shackles. I am determined, my will burning stronger than the stars above. I defy fate, twice dead already. But worst of all is the knowledge. If you value yourself, do not search for knowledge. Never search for knowledge beyond your own.
