SCP 5824: An old house in the old woods

Special Containment Procedures: A 3 mile radius is to be quarantined around SCP-5824, under the guise of an environmental hazard. Any civilians or personnel seen near or entering SCP-5824 are to be considered lost. The entrance to Harold Parker State Forest is to be monitored at all times, any persons appearing nearby should be immediately detained for questioning. Any family or friends of a missing individual should be monitored, taken in for questioning if the missing individual returns home, and amnesticized if applicable.

Description: SCP-5824 is a three four bedroom, rustic style cabin in the Harold Parker State Forest. SCP-5824's anomalous properties manifest when a subject enters the cabin, where they will vanish. Where the subjects go during this time is currently unknown, and any attempts for staff to follow results in staff vanishing as well. Within a period averaging five days, the missing person will usually reappear in the entrance to the park¹, before leaving to go back to their normal lives.

Alexander Ward, aged 31

Disappearance: Alexander Ward was reported missing on ██/██/2008. He had been hiking alone for the weekend, his wife reported he did not return. Alexander had a history of anger management, often retreated to camp after stressful situations. The forest was searched but no trace of Alexander Ward was discovered.

Return: Alexander Ward returned home to his wife and daughter on ██/██/2008, claiming to have only vague memories of where he had been. He told police he had "splintered memories" of himself walking into a dilapidated old cabin, considering it an interesting find, running through the trees, and then calmly driving home. At the insistence of his wife, she and Alexander went to the hospital for a check up, where the doctors discovered a high amount of white blood cells during a routine cell count. Alexander refused to be admitted or for any more tests to occur, claiming that he "would not be cooped up in a crowded building." Alexander returned to work the following week, but was let go a few days later, due to boss complaints that Alexander refused to do the math required for his architecture job. The police were called once, due to a domestic dispute where Alexander had attacked his wife. Alexander claimed she was trying to "trap" him in a cage, pointing to their home. when questioned, Alexander's wife claimed she had found him standing in the yard outside, sobbing. When she asked him to come inside, he turned violent, screaming that "She didn't want me anymore!" Alexander refused to comment on who he was referring to, leaving the house after the police had left with a tent. Alexander was reported missing again on ██/██/2008, and was found inside the Harold Parker State Forest, hanging from a tree near his campsite. A suicide note was found in the tent, transcribed below.

Note: I cannot find her. My love, my home, she is no longer where she stood for hundreds of years. Where has she gone, I wonder? Where will I go, when the rope cuts my air? I want to go home.

Analysis:

Heather Brown, aged 9

Disappearance: Heather Brown had been reported missing on ██/██/2010, the same day her and her family had gone for a hike. The family claimed that Heather had gotten separated from them, but they never saw her run off or move away from them, they had turned to ask if she wanted a snack, and she was gone.

Return: Heather Brown was found on ██/██/2010, after walking up to her home and ringing the doorbell. Her parents were overjoyed, but grew concerned when she could not explain where she had gone. She mentioned staying in an old house by herself, but when asked who she was with or who gave her food, she could not adequately explain, claiming that "the house took care of her." Her parents took her to a child psychologist about two weeks after her return, claiming she had been acting very different. Psychologist report indicate that Heather had began to suffer from psychosis and possibly post traumatic stress disorder, often lashing out at her family, cutting apart dead animals in the yard, and repeated asking her parents when they would be taking her home.
