Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter/Binah1
Special Containment Procedures: Implanted Foundation operatives at fossil dig sites and Universities are to observe newly uncovered fossil specimens for potential instances of SCP-XXXX-1 in the fossil record. Foundation web-crawlers are to monitor the internet for references to instances of SCP-XXXX-1. Communities and individuals at high risk for SCP-XXXX-1 are to be placed under surveillance to enable rapid containment of SCP-XXXX-1-1 instances. Due to their potential relationship with SCP-XXXX, amnesics are to be used as a last resort in cover-up operations.
Additionally, several operations have been undertaken to reduce the number of SCP-XXXX related events with a minimal impact on human society. A partial list can be seen below.
| Operation title | Summary of Operation | Effects | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Skinslip | A large volume of pornographic materials involving a liquid or semisolid organism were altered to depict said organism as inorganic | Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 decreased by ≈2% | N/A |
| L-ichen | Several common forms of lichen were genetically altered to produce minor skin irritant and introduced into strategic locations | No statistically significant change in the number of SCP-XXXX-1 instances | Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 decreased by ≈0% Modified organisms appear to have largely outcompeted modified counterparts despite measures to promote the modified strains. Operation halted due to potential undesirable effects on ecosystems by a more aggressive attempt. |
| Iron Will | Increased available funding for organizations treating mental disorders | Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 decreased by ≈2% | Operation was related to containment of multiple SCPs |
| Crawford Boil | Several high profile individuals determined by large scale AIC assisted data analysis to be increasing SCP-XXXX-1 instance rates were delegitimized with manufactured scandals and crimes in addition to actual scandals and crimes uncovered through surveillance and investigation. | instances of SCP-XXXX-1 decreased by ≈1% |
Description: SCP-XXXX is a phenomenon where two or more organisms merge into a single gestalt organism, referred to collectively as SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 instances vary greatly in form and composition, beyond considerations of the originating species. Instances have displayed:
- Enhanced durability
- Extreme frailty2
- Fusion at a single point
- Partial Topological Hybridization of the originating organism's forms
- Complete Topological Hybridization of the originating organism's forms
- Partial Anatomical Hybridization of the originating organism's forms
- Complete Anatomical Hybridization of the originating organism's forms
- All combinations of merged or unmerged organs, tissues, cells, and DNA
- Shared senses
- Shared consciousness
Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are significantly more likely to undergo SCP-XXXX, increasing with the number of times an instance has undergone SCP-XXXX. Additionally, the more times an SCP-XXXX-1 instance has undergone SCP-XXXX, the lower the chance SCP-XXXX will result in fatal anatomical defects, including the spontaneous development of adaptations to the resulting increase in body mass. Although no instances to date have successfully undergone SCP-XXXX more than 100 times and exceeded 50 metric tonnes, data suggests if an instance exceeded 150 SCP-XXXX events, potential anatomical problems would cease to impact its viability above 50 metric tonnes.
SCP-XXXX appears to occur somewhat randomly, although several factors have been identified that affect the likelihood of occurrence. SCP-XXXX frequency positively correlates to:
- Proximity to instances of SCP-XXXX
- Use of amnesics
- Presence and severity of mental illness
- Presence and severity of neurodegenerative illness
- Level of intelligence
- Heightened emotional states
- Presence of medical conditions caused by zygote or fetus fusion such as chimerism and vanishing, conjoined, and parasitic twins3
- Presence of implanted tissues, such as plant grafting, organ transplants and burn victims treated with fish skin
- Number of pregnancies an organism has had
- Number of miscarriages an organism has had
- Mass
- Complexity
SCP-XXXX frequency negatively correlates to:
- The number of offspring an organism has
- Horizontal gene transfer.
Additionally, while the amount of social behavior an organism engages in is strongly correlated to increased SCP-XXXX events, reducing the amount or quality of socialization strongly correlated to increases in the number of SCP-XXXX events within a population.
Addendum: Speculation
SCP-XXXX is believed to have occurred throughout the history of earth's biosphere, due to a significant number of previously unexplained fossils match traits of
suggesting that socialization provides a defense against SCP-XXXX, as opposed to being a risk factor.
