Item #: SCP-1171
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1171 is to be monitored and is to be explained as a chemical spill when entering urban environments. All civilians are to be vacated and a task force accompanied by researchers are to dispatched to the location for study and enforcement of anomaly. Personnel are not permitted to enter SCP-1171 without a sealed hazmat suit and rifles chambered in 5.56 to defend against instances of SCP-1171-1 and SCP-1171-3. All interaction with SCP-1171-3 is to be avoided unless approved by two (2) level 3 task force personnel and all precautions concerning SCP-3618 are met. Researchers are to travel into SCP-1171 in groups of three made up of two task force personnel and one researcher for the study of all materials affected by SCP-1171. For notes on the time between arrival and disappearance of SCP-1171 view addendum 1-A. Any personnel present in the fog when it disappears are lost and presumed dead by all accounts.
Description:
SCP-1171 takes the appearance of a fog that restricts viewing distance to 10 meters in all directions. The “fog” covers a max distance of 10 kilometers squared and a minimum of 3, no relation has been made between its size and the environment it appears in, such as urban, desert, arctic, etc. There is currently no way to effectively contain SCP-1171 due to its non-physical structure. The “fog” has severe sound dampening effects on those entering but has no effect on the inhabitants of SCP-1171.
SCP-1171-1 is a creature that seems to compose the wildlife present in the “fog” and is extremely hostile. It is 4 feet tall and is a six-legged insectoid creature not dissimilar from a fire ant, although it makes use of a jaw similar to that of a canine. Its teeth are 6 cm in length and have been noted to pierce through metal that is 1 cm thick, it has also been seen on the ground after “fog” has cleared. It will emit sounds between hissing and the cackle of a hyena and will attempt to mimic the sounds of animals it has injured to draw more towards it, it has also replicated human screams. The chitin making up its shell has been shown to be resistant to physical force below 5000 lbs. of force, about the bite force of the Nile crocodile, and bulletproof to any caliber below .223 Remington. The creature feeds on any animals or people that were not evacuated prior to task force arrival. It has been observed that SCP-1171-1 will run and avoid instances of SCP-1171-2 and SCP-1171-3.
SCP-1171-2 is a semi-humanoid that is 7 feet tall and has 4 insectoid legs beginning at the waist and armored skin but appears to have cognitive abilities similar to that of the average human and shares similar facial features although growths on either side of the mouth which have the appearance and function of mandibles. It is fully capable of speech in the native language of the area the fog is occupying, how this is done is not known at this time. Personnel are free to interact with these beings but are to refrain from harming or abusing any form of SCP-1171-2 or their colonies which seem to disappear and move with the “fog”. For an interview with one of the subjects see addendum 1-B.
SCP-1171-3 is 15 feet tall and is a large quadrupedal entity with insectoid legs, a large abdomen, the head is similar in shape and design of the Brown Recluse. It will occasionally emit a sound like a mix between a screech and a roar. At the back of the abdomen is a spinneret like protrusion the excretes a web-like thread that is highly corrosive and has the ability to reach temperatures in excess of 2,500 degrees Celsius. Its shell has been shown to be resistant to projectiles from antipersonnel rifles and other high caliber rounds. This entity will attempt to consume any instances of SCP-1171-1 and SCP-1171-2 and must be avoided at all costs. After “fog” has dissipated, the webbing will remain but loses the thermal and acidic properties when in the “fog” but retains its strength and is being studied as a replacement the traditional Kevlar vests worn by facility guards and other task forces. For additional information, view addendum 1-C.
Addendum:
Addendum 1-A: information regarding appearance and disappearance
It has been noted from instances dating back to 00/00/0000 that the fog has no discernable requirements for appearance but will dissipate with 8 to 12 hours after appearance. The fog has chemicals equivalent to that of hydrochloric acid and requires full a hazmat suit upon interaction. It is not yet known what causes the creatures or chemicals present in the fog.
Addendum 1-B: interview
Interviewer: Dr. █████.
Interviewee: an instance of SCP-1171-2
Dr. █████ : Where do you originate from?
SCP-1171-2: Nowhere and everywhere, we are not restrained by time or space but only limited by the fog. Any who attempt to leave will be lost and forgotten.
Dr. █████ : Could you explain the behaviors of SCP-1171-3 and how it attacks as to prevent encountering it unprepared?
SCP-1171-2: the beast wanders this fog and is a formidable opponent in a battle however it will reappear after being consumed or destroyed.
(roar from SCP-1171-3 in the distance)
Dr. █████ : Thank you for your cooperation. Sgt. Malcom get the others and move out, that thing is on its way.
(End Log)
Notes:
It appears that although SCP-1171 moves and appears at different times to those viewing from outside the fog, all entities present within are unaware of any change in location or time and any entities that attempt to leave after getting stuck in the fog when it moves will disappear and will never be seen again. Anyone who manages to survive in the fog will become an instance of SCP-1171-2 and will lose some but not all memories of their life outside of the fog. Possibility of an air based amnestic is likely but is most likely highly dilute.
Addendum 1-C: (Redacted) only accessible by O5 council and Manufacturing Department personnel
