Facility Regions

Surface Level

The general region surrounding Area-11 consists of a highly cold Antarctic climate with regional temperatures averaging around −57 °C. Direct geography consists of a large, open canyon surrounded by tall mountains to all sides of the operating region. These landmarks are repurposed as borders for the site in order to contain any threats and establish a secure perimeter around the facility.

Main Facilities: For security & safety reasons, the general facility of Area-11 consists of multiple facilities connected via underground tram. There are multiple buildings and outposts on the surface of Area-11's operating area. Features include:

  • Personnel Shuttle System: Transit system with a series of 3 checkpoints connecting the majority of Area-11's facilities with each other. Travelling at ultra fast speeds along a durable rail system, the trains running through this line are designed to transport heavy amounts of personnel reliably through these areas of the facility.
  • Multipurpose Buildings: Each primary structure in Area-11 contains a multipurpose building, generally with two floors and is architecturally designed to sustain heat and livable conditions inside. These buildings are purposed as either personnel barracks, office areas, or general storage.
    • Observation Post: Tall wooden towers designed to provide reliable surveillance of the general perimeters of buildings along the Area-11 structure. Generally manned by combatant personnel and used to tactically keep persons in and out of the Area-11 facilities themselves.

Main Encampment

The Main Encampment is a smaller facility in Area-11 located to the north of the facility. These barracks are used to house on-site staff and perform smaller research operations, safely from the other areas of the facility.

Personnel Barracks: Various multipurpose buildings repurposed in order to safely reside the personnel stationed on-site. Barracks are located above ground for safety and security reasons, allowing for quick off-site evacuations in emergencies and regulated access.

Storm Shelters: Painted with a notable orange color distinguishing them from the rest of the facility, these buildings are designed to protect personnel from the various snowstorms and environmental threats that a remote facility like Area-11 may face. Multiple of these buildings have been constructed to house larger amounts of personnel as well as provide safe room in the buildings so that occupying personnel may safely escape if necessary, as well as provide reasonable room.

Entity Area

Main Reception: Large reinforced buildings that provide direct access to the containment facilities below. Reinforced with large blast doors and heavily protected, they are considered a high priority area for security due to their status as the sole access point for anomalous containment areas.

Conference Center: The surface level of the Entities Area contains a smaller reinforced building that houses a larger meeting area as well as numerous offices and smaller seminar facilities utilized for top-level administrative staff to conduct secure operations.

Containment Zones: Underground bunker beneath the reception buildings that houses the entirety of Area-11's anomalous storage, securing the various on site anomalies and ensuring their safety from threats and improper access. Heavily trained combatants patrol this area in order to ensure that anyone who actually enters this section is properly trained and certified to do so. Test Subjects are brought out here for testing on occasion.

Research Laboratories: Various laboratories and storage areas within the interior of the containment zone act as the primary corporate research areas of the facility, with advanced technology and machinery being made to achieve some of the best studies that the Nova Corporation has to offer.

Vehicle Bay & Warehouses: Acting as a sort of military hub for Area-11, this specific part of the surface section contains all sorts of vehicles and aircraft designed to neatly operate above the perimeter and enforce military operations as seen fit on-site. As such, many combatant personnel will frequent this area.

Test Subject Zone

Entrance Hub & Parking Lot: Connects to the transit station and houses a smaller parking lot adjacent to it. Acts as a large empty area in order to potentially store helicopters and other mobile aircraft. Mainly used as a staging ground to transport Test Subjects outside of the zone to the Entity Area to be tested upon.

Cell Block: Primary holding area for the Test Subjects stationed on-site. This area consists of multiple different cells and units with numerous support facilities designed to securely house all on-site test subjects and accommodate for their needs. Connects directly to the Entrance Hub, as well as a courtyard via stairwell.

Courtyard: This large, open snowy area contains an overlook to observe the Cell Block beneath, as well as a mile's worth of walking grounds in order to allow test subjects some free space to move around. Contains a small amount of multipurpose buildings for personal usage by the subjects, and is attributed as a decent source of morale for the subjects.

Security Checkpoint: Connected to the courtyard, this serves as an admittance area for vehicles travelling in and out of the facility, as well as a general secure hub to watch over the test subjects and verify the safety of them. The checkpoint uses multiple means to control subjects, with having a chain linked fence surround the entire perimeter, security drones prepped to terminate any potential escapees by sniper fire, and various vehicular patrols to look out for any subjects travelling on foot. The climate also serves as a decent means of neutralizing subjects who try to escape, as clothing for the subjects is intentionally designed to be poor at keeping the cold out in order to make it harder for them to endure the cold winter conditions.

Staffing Information

Due to the extreme location of Area-11, as well as the security of it, the site has somewhat been repurposed as an administrative hub for larger corporate affairs in addition to it's standard operations. As a result, larger amounts of the personnel stationed here serve administrative capacity and must be secured appropriately.

Site History

Back in the 1970s, the Nova Corporation sought out the Antarctic region in which Area-11 is now located for resources mining and production. Numerous facilities were constructed along the ice sheets in order to support this operation, with a series of looser mining facilities in order to maximize research output. In addition to this, the Iron Fist saw limited deployal in order to protect assets within the region from the Red Wolves.

Following completion, one of the larger mining stations was repurposed into a military hub to house the Iron Fist. The upper command of the Nova Corporation soon saw the promise in a high security dedicated facility to entities containment within a remote location like Antarctica, and then proceeded to repurpose the mining stations.

As a result, operations in the area greatly increased as numerous high value entites were transferred into the area for containment. Many of the older mining areas were barricaded or closed in order to make room for test subject holding, and security operations saw an overall reinforcement within the area. As time went on within the internal Nova Corporation, it was deemed to make Area-11 an even more important command facility due to it's securely remote location: the area was located in a natural canyon with harsh temperatures surrounding it on all sides and was a very hard to access area, making it perfect for the Corporation to protect their assets as well as ensure nothing could actually get out.

Since its redesignation, Research Area-11 has been highly useful in the following discoveries:

  • This is where lore points that would tie into other tales go.
  • In a further future, this section would list references to larger Area-11 lore and Entites functions.
  • Right now though, the best I can do is take a guess as to what your vision would be for this.

Additional Information

Persons who wish to transfer to Area-11 are recommended to appropriately prepare for the extreme cold and habitation risks of the remote climate. We are not your average facility, once you come here you will have to put up with the conditions for a good few months. - Area Director Metatable Index.

Transfers to Area-11 are also advised to bring any medication or necessary materials they need with them when they first arrive. Transports are rare, and we only ever get new goods every few months or so. If you come here without proper preparations, you may be stuck without them for a while due to logistics purposes. - Dr. Eagle Lysander, Chief of Innovation.
