Update: Alert 2016-830

On September 6, 2016, SCP-2212 partially breached containment and reached a terminal in Observation Chamber 17-10-4. There, it used the intercom to broadcast a threat against the Foundation:

My servants, those who want what I have to offer and who have what I need, the time is nigh! Look around you and recognize who in our project still is loyal first to the Foundation. Then, strike in the night, killing them. When you are sure that only your fellow thralls remain, we shall truly begin.

Though SCP-2212 presented no resistance to being returned to containment, the extreme nature of its command and its known capabilities of mental influence prompted issuance of Alert 2016-830. All personnel assigned to SCP-2212 have been under increased monitoring, and site security have interrogated them to verify their dedication to the Foundation. On September 16, 2016, SCP-2212 project lead Dr. Luis Ricardo issued a statement to security:

Like all of you, I was shocked and horrified at SCP-2212’s command last Tuesday. And moreover, I was confused. As a being primarily composed of radioactive plasma, SCP-2212 is physically dangerous, but in the years I’ve spent studying it, I’ve never observed it to try to harm anyone. Nor, inasmuch as we can tell, has it used its psychic facility to attack the Foundation. Indeed, our project has a comparable rate of accidents and injuries to ones on objects of similar hazard class. So the outright violence it called for did not match with my understanding of its behavior.

I think I understand better now. It’s been over a week since 2212’s order, and neither I or nor any of the other eight people on the project have shown any signs of violence. Either 2212’s hold over its alleged “thralls” isn’t as strong as it claims, or its intent never was to cause those rather lurid nocturnal attacks. My current theory is that this, like so much of SCP-2212’s behavior, is just part of a larger puzzle.

Due to the continued lack of any attempt by personnel to carry out SCP-2212’s threat, Alert 2016-830 is relaxed. Enhanced monitoring of personnel assigned to SCP-2212 will continue at present, but no further actions by Site 17 Security are required.

  • SCP-073: SCP-073 uses newly-excavated corridor in Yellow-14, passing within range of refrigeration for “Anomaleats,” the cafeteria servicing floors 14 through 19, and consequently causing the destruction of most produce stored there. SCP-073 escorted back to its containment chamber, the corridor marked off on SCP-073’s site map, and replacement food is procured for Anomaleats cafeteria.
  • SCP-4051: Dr. Yesenia reports SCP-4051 has grown somewhat despondent and requests more “mentally engaging” human contact. Security footage shows SCP-4051 manifesting a chess set and, on realizing he lacks an opponent, a book of chess puzzles. Approval of a console so SCP-4051 can play chess remotely with assigned personnel is pending.
  • SCP-███: [INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE]
  • SCP-191: SCP-191 has become significantly distressed over the weekend, and monitoring suggests she is receiving a continuous broadcast from an unknown source. At Dr. ███’s suggestion, SCP-191 agreed to transcribe the message, though she reports that the message is encrypted with a long-key Rijndael cipher, and so will take at least a week to decrypt.
  • SCP-545: On its weekly walk, SCP-545-A attempts a containment breach, and succeeds in incapacitating Security Officer Gary Willis before before being subdues and returned to its containment cell by other guards. SCP-545 explains that it attempted to escape because it felt the hungers of Site 17 changing, but was unable to explain the meaning of this beyond as a sense developed over the centuries. S.O. Willis is expected to make a full recovery, and SCP-545’s gardening privileges are revoked until further notice.
  • SCP-███: [INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE]
  • SCP-343: As of September 18th, 2016, SCP-343’s containment chamber has become inaccessible, sealed off by some opaque and apparently impenetrable barrier. At present it is unknown whether this is caused by SCP-343 or some external force.
  • SCP-███: [INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE]
  • SCP-4110: The weekly containment locker audit records a missing instance of SCP-4110-1c. Personnel are requested to watch for an apparently-levitating hat, trenchcoat, and gloves as likely misuse of an anomalous item.
  • SCP-887: SCP-887 begins work on what seems to be a larger project than most of its writings. While still incomplete, this latest entry in the log of SCP-887’s output appears to be a detailed map of dimensional breaches in the Oceania region, along with a simultaneously written mathematical treatise connecting their distribution to group theory.

Make your choice, adventurous stranger
Strike the bell and bide the danger,

Personal Bulletin

Welcome, Sonia! There are two (2) updates on persons you have flagged and one (1) general security message.

  • The missing instance of SCP-4110-1c has been recovered in possession of Researcher Charles Dempsey. Dempsey had been subject to increased monitoring as a result of Alert 2016-830, though that monitoring failed to detect his unauthorized access to the low-priority containment lockers and subsequent use of the instance of SCP-4110-1c. Researcher Dempsey maintains that his use of SCP-4110-1c was in the interest of gaining greater understanding of anomalies in containment, and claims to have submitted a proper request for use of the item. SCP-4110 Project Lead Wu has found an email from Dempsey; however, that email had failed to decrypt and so not been read by her. Researcher Dempsey reprimanded and mandated supplemental training on cross-project requests and improper use of anomalous items. The instance of SCP-4110-1c he took was inspected and found to be mildly radioactive, so it has been destroyed.
  • Junior Researcher Barbara Osinowo posts to the Adaptive Containment interest group <You are already a member!>: I’m cancelling the followup to “Patterns and Prediction: Lessons from Containing SCP-2212”. I know we got cut short (rather topically!) by 056 breaching containment, and I’ve certainly learned enough this last month to fill another brown bag lecture, but that’s actually the problem. 2212 has been so active and changing so much lately that at this point I don’t think anything I can tell you would be relevant for much longer. Sorry about this, but I’m looking forward to figuring out more complex containment with you guys into the future!

By order of Site Director Draber, Site 17 security personnel may not use discretionary leave days tomorrow, as their presence may be necessary for research purposes. We apologize for this inconvenience, and in recompense, all security personnel will accrue discretionary leave at three times the normal rate on the 22nd.

Thank you for participating in Protocol C-Gobekli to restore damaged database entries. Item Database Entry #2212 is nearly repaired. Please keep an eye out for additional instances of database corruption and continue to do your part to ensure the integrity of Foundation systems!
