Item#: SCP-
Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP# is held inside a specially designed glass cylinder that is 30cm in height and 15cm in diameter. The unit holds a fan housing on the bottom, containing a fan with intake vents around the base of the container, as well as a vent over the top of the cylinder to allow air to escape. The fan produces an upward current to suspend SCP# in the air. The blades of the fan are shaped to produce the highest air pressure towards the outside of the cylinder and lowest at the center. This keeps SCP# in a state constant free fall, as to prevent it from contacting a solid surface. This containment unit is held at site [REDACTED], in locker#22.

If the unit housing SCP# is damaged, loses power, or for any other reason is unable to contain it, the following measures can be used for temporary containment.

A supervised operative is to place SCP# on a solid surface, periodically picking it up and placing it back down every few seconds to prevent the vibrations it emits from reaching a dangerous level.

Description:
SCP# appears to be a normal U.S. issued quarter. Its surface has wear and tear that is typical of coinage after years of circulation, with the exception of the phrase “QUARTER DOLLAR” being half scraped off, leaving only “QUARTER”. The Year printed is 1986.

SCP# will remain dormant until coming into contact with a solid (see addendum Test-2) surface. When coming into contact with a new surface, SCP# will begin to vibrate with increasing frequency. This will continue until SPC# is removed or until the surface is destroyed by the vibrations. When removed from a surface, the vibrations of SCP# seem to “reset”. The vibrations will begin Approximately one second after contact. Although the vibrations take multiple minuets to reach dangerously high intensities, they seem to increase exponentially (see addendum Test-3).

SCP# was found at the site of a Chase bank, located in [REDACTED], Texas. The banked had recently collapsed under mysterious circumstanced. Employees stated a deposit box connected to the exterior cash depository had burst open. Several minuets later, the building began to shake from its foundation before collapsing. Given the banks records and the time frame in witch SCP# operates, there are [REDACTED] suspects who could have deposited SCP# into the banks systems. However, no new information has yet come of questioning these suspects.

Addendum: Experiment Log of SCP#’s effects on various surfaces
Test-1
Subject: Water
SCP# was removed from its containment unit and placed into a cylinder of similar design filled with water, utilizing a constant upward current to keep it from contacting any solid surface. SCP# appeared to remain dormant for several hours before being returned to its containment unit.

Result:
SCP# does not appear to react when suspended in liquid. It is unclear if this is due to the ever-shifting nature of gasses and liquids providing constant new surfaces, or if the object simply doesn’t interact with such materials.

Test-2
Subject:
Gelatin
SCP# was removed from its containment unit and inserted into a container of gelatin. Once suspended in place, SCP# began vibrating with increasing intensity for 3 minutes, at which point the gelatin surrounding it was liquefied. This continued until it hit the bottom of the container, at which point SCP# was removed and returned to its containment unit.

Result:
While it doesn’t vibrate in liquids or gasses, SCP# does seem to be activated by contact with semi-solids.
Test-3
Subject:
Stone
SCP# was removed from its containment unit and placed onto a solid metal block before being covered by a small stone. Vibrations emanating from SCP# increased in intensity for 8 minutes before the stone began to crack. The stone was converted into a coarse sand within the next 30 seconds. SCP#, still in contact with the iron block, continued to vibrate over the next 26 seconds. At this time, the vibrations traveling through the iron block where enough to shake the room, cracking the concrete floor below before SCP# was removed and placed back into its containment unit.

Result:
The vibrations of SCP# seem to increase exponentially, increasing much more rapidly as time passes. In future tests, SCP# must be removed from all surfaces immediately after its interaction with the test subject is known.
