Item #: SCP-XXXX

marxscp.jpg

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP

Description: SCP-XXX manifests as a white, hollow china bust of Karl Marx, 15cm in height with a 10cm by 10cm by 2cm baseplate and an estimated volume of 330ml. Usually inscribed upon the baseplate are the words "Das Kapital." The top of the bust contains a small 10mm by 55mm slit, and is the only opening of the entire structure. The only observable difference between SCP-XXXX and a non-anomalous counterpart is the absence of any opening to access any deposited contents. SCP-XXX is able to accommodate any object it desires regardless of size. Any item deposited in SCP-XXX vanishes, and all attempts to recover objects deposited in SCP-XXXX have resulted in failure. However, upon depositing an item into SCP-XXXX, the expected sound produced from the impact of the object in question is audible. Whilst SCP-XXXX retains the fragility of and can easily be destroyed, upon destruction a random Marx bust of identical or very similar design will assume the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX. Therefore, termination of SCP-XXX is impossible until all potential 'hosts' for SCP-XXX have been destroyed.

SCP-XXXX will inhabit a standard Marx bust as described above (a 'host'), and exert a powerful cognitive effect on any individual that acquires it. Upon depositing any monetary unit or item of value into SCP-XXXX, the individual will gradually alter their lifestyle to one of extreme asceticism and deposit all material possessions or their monetary equivalent into SCP-XXXX. This effect happens regardless of the political opinions, or more interestingly financial status, of the victim. SCP-XXXX targets individuals both of extreme wealth and poverty. However, the effects of SCP-XXXX usually affect higher net-worth individuals more rapidly (See Addendum XXXX-01 for further details).

The victims of SCP-XXXX will continue this process until either the 'host' of SCP-XXXX is destroyed or has taken sufficient damage, or until the victim reaches such a state of poverty that they expire, typically from exposure or starvation, which can take from between two weeks to four months. In the case of the former, the 'host' will lose the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX, and a new 'host' will assume the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX. In the case of the latter, upon the death of the victim, the process described above will occur, however, if no coins or items of value are deposited within SCP-XXXX within 48 hours, this process will occur automatically. Victims will become more possessive over SCP-XXXX the longer they are exposed to it. After approximately 14 to 27 days of exposure, the victim will refuse to part with SCP-XXXX, even when threatened with termination, and will enter a phase of severe self-neglect, unconcerned with seeking out basic necessities such as food or shelter. When asked to justify their actions, victims act confused and slightly irritated, responding with the following justification, or some variant thereof: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs."

Known items accepted by SCP-XXXX include the following.

  • Coins, regardless of currency
  • Notes, regardless of currency
  • Cheques
  • Valuable metals, such as gold and silver.
  • Jewellery
  • Electronics, such as phones or games consoles.
  • Credit cards (bank statements show all funds have been withdrawn by the owner)
  • Uranium
  • Valuable animal materials, such as ivory

Due to SCP-XXXX's spatial properties, there appears to be no limit to the number of objects deposited into SCP-XXXX. However, larger objects such as cars, expensive clothes, or real estate owned by the victim are usually sold, with the proceeds deposited into SCP-XXXX rather than said items being directly deposited themselves.
