Item #: SCP-5097
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5097 is to be stored within a 10x10x10 centimeter transparent reinforced 25 milimeter thick polycarbonate case fitted with a strengthened boron steel baseplate. This smaller confine is then further stored inside a 2x2.5x2.5 meter containment cell. Security clearance for SCP-5097's cell is given to Level 2 personnel and above.
Description: SCP-5097 is an early 2000s model cordless home phone that periodically emits various steady tones ranging from frequencies of 20Hz (low extreme, human subjects unable to hear, still affected) up to 20kHz (high extreme, human subjects also unable to hear, still affected). These tones have been found to elicit strong psychological reactions from any and all human subjects who happen to hear them, even when they appear completely silent. The reactions are often described as attempted acts of self harm accompanied by severe degradation of mental status in the victim.
SCP-5097 has also been found to possess a humanlike level of intelligence, as analysis of spectrograms detailing tones emitted by the phone itself (5097) and it's charging bay (5097-A) after pre-recorded questions for the SCP were sounded within it's cell, shows clear and concise images and text developed within the tones themselves, containing answers by the device for the researchers.
Security clearance for 5097's cell is given to Level 2 personnel and above, and all must enter the space while equipped with military grade noise cancelling earmuffs.
The device must never be removed from it's smaller confine unless specifically required, and under no circumstances should 5097 be seperated from it's parent 5097-A. If insufficient caution is taken to make sure such an event doesn't occur, 5097 will begin emitting bursts of incredibly loud high frequency sounds, with an 86% success rate in causing permanent damage to the agent(s), both psychologically and physically, irrelevant of noise cancelling equipment being worn. The noise will continue, sounding in rapid succession, until 5097 is placed back in 5097-A, and a symbol appears on the phone's monochromatic display indicating that charging of the battery has continued. It appears that even when the battery is at 0%, the device will never shut down and will instead continue emitting bursts of tones until it's charged to 1% and over. 5097-A must also be constantly connected to a power source.
Aesthetically, 5097 and 5097-A are of a gloss black/gray color scheme, and appear to be built out of a hardened polymer plastic. There are no markings on any of the two that could indicate a place of origin or manufacturer.
