Item #: SCP-3160

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3160 is locked in an opaque box that can only be opened by the keycards of three (3) Level 3 (Secret) personnel and allowed in with a written note from at least a Level 5 person. If SCP-3160 is to be moved move while object is still in box, avoid direct contact with object.

If any staff comes in contact with SCP-3160 they are to be set through psychological testing and examination for three (3) weeks before being set back to normal duties. Keep under observation for one (1) month after being released. Ten (10) psychologists must be kept in whatever containment facility SCP-3160 may be held in at a minimum.

At least two (2) guards are to be watching SCP-3160 at all times and switched out in six (6) hour shifts. All guards have orders to restrain any staff without at least three (3) Level 3 (Secret) personnel in attendance. All precautions are set for personnel safety; SCP-3160 is not world threatening.

Description: SCP-3160 is a small book leather book in appearance with the dimensions of 11.43x7.62x2.54 cm3. The leather cover of SPC-3160 is pig skin that contains five hundred and forty two (542) papyrus pages. SPC-3160 is bound closed by cotton created twine. Pages, covers, and spine are all unmarked and flawless under untouched circumstances.

SCP-3160 is not to be touched by any personnel below a Level 3 (Secret) Security clearance and not without two other minimally Level 3 staff. Only exceptions from stated rule is if written note from Level 5 officer states otherwise with a specified staff and information is allotted.

Security measures restated to reiterate importance of effects on any personnel that come in direct contact with SCP-3160.

When subjects come in contact with SCP-3160 they report their full name appearing on the respectively 'front' cover of the object1 along with all of the nicknames they had throughout their lifetime and any name changes. All subjects describe leather book uniquely from each other upon direct contact. Some have described the leather turning to their favorite color, or no longer being leather at all. Description of SCP-3160 varies from person to person upon contact.

When subjects flip SCP-3160 onto respective back they describe reading a summary of their lives with birth and death dates alongside significant details of what they did with their lives. Many subjects refuse to proceed with the testing from this point and are terminated.

Upon opening SCP-31602 subjects are ordered to read the first page and describe what they see, which is always the story of their birth. From there subjects flip through the book and describe their past as what they are seeing and reading. Up until subjects get to a point in SCP-31603 where they begin reading about what they are doing at that very moment, which has proved some confusion in recording for studying scientists.

Subjects that have continued this far and have not been terminated through un-cooperation then flip farther through SCP-3160 and begin describing what the research staff later realize and record as being the future. Many Class D subjects describe reading that they will be [DATA EXPUNGED], which eventually becomes inevitable. There has been no recordings of being able to change what has been read aloud by the subjects even through much trial against it.

Subjects that are not terminated after or during use are sent to psychological testing before continuing with whatever it is they need to do, as most people are incapable of handling such information of their investable futures and being reminded of their terrifying pasts. All subjects who read or saw their future were never the same after words. There have been no cases of a subject surviving a second trial4.

To date thirty two (32) SCP personnel have been lost excluding Class Ds due to improper use of SCP-3160 or going insane to the point of necessary termination. Information breaches became serious when one Level 2 Staff researcher started walking into classified sections of Site-19 almost letting [DATA EXPUNGED] out of containment. Researcher Dr. J████ was then terminated. SCP-3160 has been moved to Site-██.

Research has since been stopped and only used when personnel from Level 5 require necessary possibly world saving information.

Discovery: SCP-3160 was reported by an SCP Field Agent who reported an old man, Howard █████, who stopped his car in front of the agent, almost hitting him, before tumbling out and throwing a suit case at his feet. The field agent says the man told him "Here, the book said you would be here [subject coughs] and this is where I die. Take it to a safe place where it will not fall into the wrong hands, the book said you would…" The agent had immediately contacted the nearest Containment Specialist and called in another nearby field agent who was on duty as an officer to keep the public from stressing the dead man at his feet. Both field agents have since been terminated and two more Containment Specialists due to improper handling and eventual madness of SCP-3160.
