SCP-135780

Item #: SCP-135780

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-135780 is to be held in the containment area of Site-10, where it is to be kept in an airtight container and monitored by security staff at all times. The container is to be kept at a constant temperature of █ degrees Celsius to prevent any physical or chemical degradation of SCP-135780. SCP-135780 is to be provided food twice daily, at 07:00 and 13:00, and any instances of SCP-135780-1 observed in the vicinity of the container are to be quarantined immediately by Site-10 staff. All SCP-135780 instances of any size are to be monitored in full accordance with the procedures outlined in Addendum 135780-I. SCP-135780-A instances are to be confiscated and inspected for excessive flinching in the presence of food; however, if food is available and SCP-135780 is unwilling to eat it, any SCP-135780-A instances observed eating SCP-135780-1 are to be confiscated and confiscated from any accounts that the consumer of the SCP-135780-A has with a banking institution.

Description: SCP-135780 is an amorphous mass of bread, approximately 5 centimeters in length and 1.5 centimeters in diameter, which will change in density at a rate of approximately 25 milligrams per gram of air. According to observing staff, SCP-135780 does not have any biological or chemical properties other than its appearance. Exposure to SCP-135780-A will cause a change in the texture and temperature of the bread; SCP-135780 instances appear to tend to grow fur, vomit, and spit. SCP-135780 does not react to any form of stimuli; its level of active metabolic activity is currently unknown, but in laboratory testing, SCP-135780 does not seem to require air or food to survive.

SCP-135780 was found on ██/██/20██ after it was discovered in a flat on ██████ ███████ Street, at the bottom of a bathtub. SCP-135780 has an undeclared anomalous property relating to its ability to absorb and digest matter. The mass expands by up to 30%, depending on its state of digestion. Individuals that eat SCP-135780 or have blood within 5 cm of SCP-135780 will cease to appear to have suffered any damage. If the mass is allowed to "digest" more than 50% of a standard piece of bread, the bread will change its texture and expand to 4.5 cm in diameter. Subjects that ingest SCP-135780-A instances are still capable of movement but will report a loss of sensation within the mouth and face of the individuals consuming the SCP-135780-A instances. As of 20██, most individuals are unable to digest SCP-135780 without suffering severe digestive damage. Foundation personnel is prohibited from consuming SCP-135780.

SCP-135780-A instances appear to be small, spherical structures that resemble doughnuts, though they are not made of bread and are hollow. SCP-135780-A instances seem to have a propensity for encasing themselves within SCP-135780-A instances of their own, such that more than 40% of a larger piece of bread or bread dough has a chance of coming into contact with an SCP-135780-A instance. As of 20██, 10% of a large slice of bread will contain an SCP-135780-A instance.

Addendum 135780-I: Description of SCP-135780-A instances

SCP-135780-A is an amorphous mass of bread, approximately 2 cm in diameter and 2 cm in height, which appears to be mostly white, though, in some instances, portions of SCP-135780-A appear to be black. SCP-135780-A is hairless and appears to have tendrils. In the absence of food, SCP-135780-A instances produce a pleasant scent. When SCP-135780-A is bathed in blood, its color changes to a shade similar to SCP-135780. Also, SCP-135780-A instances emit a pungent odor and acquire an overall grey, translucent appearance. It is impossible to distinguish between the meat and bread components of SCP-135780-A instances, however, it has been noted that blood does not appear to travel from SCP-135780-A through SCP-135780-A instances in a consistent fashion. This is consistent with the moldering nature of SCP-135780-A instances.

The SCP-135780 anomaly has been referred to as "Breadpile 135780" due to the prevalence of SCP-135780-A.

SCP-135780-A instances appear to originate in domestic bakeries, where it is unknown why or how bread is selected for absorption by SCP-135780-A instances. Upon ingestion, SCP-135780-A instances produce a faint taste similar to pork loin.

SCP-135780-A instances were first discovered by Foundation personnel on ██████ ███████ Street, near ███████ Street, and ████████ Street. SCP-135780-A instances were discovered on two individual pieces of toast and were dismembered by first-aid personnel at the scene. Three victims were observed to still have portions of their stomach contents contained within SCP-135780-A instances. The first victim exhibited severe abdominal pain while another displayed a severe headache and complete amnesia following ingestion. A third victim, who was originally thought to be the second victim of a heart attack, had a large, irregular shape and the presence of blood in their stomach. This was later confirmed to be consistent with a portion of SCP-135780-A that had been removed from their stomach.

Addendum 135780-II: Investigation into Breadpile 135780

During the investigation into Breadpile 135780, the Foundation discovered a new variant of SCP-135780: Breadpile 135780-B. Breadpile 135780-B consists of two separate pieces of bread, approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height. As noted above, this variant is characterized by a flavor similar to "white ham." The odor emitted by Breadpile 135780-B is described as being a mix between that of blood and steak.

Addendum 135780-III: Breadpile 135780-B incidents

Dr. A. McShane, the Foundation medical examiner who first noted the behavior of SCP-135780-A instances, noted the following pattern in both Breadpile 135780-A and Breadpile 135780-B incidents.

Breadpile 135780-A incidents:

Out of 10-20 seconds, subjects begin vomiting large amounts of blood and begin to display symptoms consistent with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis. These include disorientation, profuse vomiting, headache, and severe stomach pains. Subjects' pupils will enlarge and disappear, along with the blind spots surrounding their pupils. Subjects will then produce vomiting of pure meat.

Breadpile 135780-B incidents:

Out of 10-20 seconds, subjects consume entire pieces of bread, or in some cases, portions of one entire loaf. Subjects will produce a blood-chilling scent similar to that of freshly sliced meat. Subjects' pupils will appear to turn black and disappear. These incidents are accompanied by intense sensations of stomach pain and abdominal pain. It is unknown how this occurs, as subjects don't produce a distinct taste, however one possible cause is said to be similar to that of bread eaten by SCP-135780-A instances. In some cases, subjects exhibit severe heart attack-like symptoms and severe malnutrition. These symptoms are not consistent with commonly known causes of malnutrition. This symptom can persist for approximately 12 hours after ingestion.

Addendum 135780-V: Further information about contamination

The appearance and occurrence of SCP-135780-A and Breadpile 135780-B are most likely due to foodborne illnesses. However, for the sake of convenience, the investigation into contamination is not complete.

Following the initially reported incident of SCP-135780 in New York City, the Foundation has received inquiries regarding instances of SCP-135780-A found in multiple locations throughout the world.
